Probably the only group I listen to who released new material this year was Counting Crows, so that's my pick.

There were only 4 new songs on 'Butter Miracle Suite One', but, of those, two of them are already up there in my top 10 or 20 Counting Crows songs - especially 'Bobby and the Rat Kings'.

This year's been so good that I totally forgot that album, despite really liking it off 2 or 3 listens. Cheers for the reminder!

Such a good album. I've got tickets to see them in January. I just know that the gig isn't going to go ahead, so I'm bracing myself for that inevitability. I'm pre-gutted. :(

This is the correct answer, one of their best albums imo.

I'm pretty sure most others are just putting random words together and pretending they're bands/albums and hoping we don't notice.

I must admit, I didn't instantly connect with it. Listened to it a couple of times when it was released and thought it was pretty good but nothing special.

Think it's a bit of a mood album, as it's really grown on me. Mainly over the past couple of months.

My wit's end
For me, a great album is one that I can listen to from start to finish without wanting to skip a moment. And then when it's done, I want to replay it again from the very beginning.

I don't think I listened to anything this year that meets those criteria, or that I'm going to think back to fondly in 10 or 15 years' time.

Probably the closest I got was Turnstile - Glow On and Silk Sonic - An Evening With. But both of those are flawed in their own way.

That said, I'm always about 2 years behind the times when it comes to new music. It'll probably be 2023 before I finally realise that I missed some absolute banger from 2021. Reading this thread will certainly give me a few pointers, so thanks for the recommendations lads and lasses.

Jesus Christ, Limp Bizkit have released a new album? And it's on somebody's album of the year list? What is happening.

It was a surprise release on Halloween. It's not going to be for everyone but I thought it was a fun listen.

Fingers crossed the gig takes place sooner rather than later!
Got an email today to say that the gig has been postponed until September.
Even worse, the gig has now been moved from a Saturday to a Friday, meaning that it's impossible for me to get to the venue anywhere near close enough in time. So, looks like I won't be going.

Absolutely gutted. I think it's really bad form to actually change the day of the gig. If it was a Saturday to begin with, it should be postponed for another Saturday, like for like. Not everyone has the luxury of living next to a big city and it's a weekday gig. You book under one set of circumstances and now you're presented with something different. Overall, meh. 2022 is off to a shit start. Was looking forward to both Godspeed and Doves, and now not going to either. :(

What an absolute pisser. Any chance you could get the money back and buy tickets for another gig, so you at least feel like you've got something lined up? Feel for you, pal. After the 2 years we've had, stuff like this does make a difference doesn't it? Stuff we took for granted basically!
