Ditto Arvani's suggested lineup. It seems balanced . Scholes could be replaced by Saha if the need arise. These days, given our defensive woes, we need to shore it up in midfield with either Keane, Phil or Butt. Kleb, Eric and Fletcher will have to sit on the bench and in that order in terms of the opportunity to play. As for Wes, what can we do with him ? Can we play him either right or left back in the EPL ? Leave him out during CL. We also should consider selling him in the summer, along with Fletch, and Butt. Its about time we narrowed the squad so as the decent players gets a chance to play and develop. We should have one replacement for each position ideally.

:nono: Not quite, it's important to score and a score draw will be better than a 0-0, but 0-0 is better than losing the match, even if we lost it 7-6 or something.

late news from portugal...

it seems Mourinho isn't giving much hope on this 1st leg. He is making plans for the 2nd.
No wingers...injurys
Mcarthy is training with B side, dancing to much on discos...
Jankauskas is probably the striker.. very tall. good headshot and nice assists also.

Your easy task is not suffer goals. Porto attack is really down!!!
unless Mourinho plays with Jankauskas, Deco, Carlos Alberto and Alenitchev all together in attack.
Your dificult task.... score. Nice midfield and defense they have...

will see.

Still not sure about Keane in defence, but I think it has to be done.
I have to agree with this team. I'm also not sure about Keano in defence (why do I keep trying to spell it defense lately? ), but we need him back there to provide leadership. Then Phil plays his normal role as the purely defensive midfielder, with Nicky taking over Keano's normal role as more of a playmaker.

Does anyone know what time the match is on in Australia? I know it's on in the morning, but don't know whether it's the first live game or the 2nd delayed match.

--------------Howard---------------

Gaz --- O'Shea --- Keane --- Fortune

Ronaldo -- Phil Nev -- Butt -- Giggs

--------------- Scholes -------------

---------------- RVN ---------------

A Little worried about playing JOS in the middle of defence, he looked a bit rocky when he played there last year but with Keane along side him it should help.
I would leave Saha on the bench for his first Champions League game.
If Phil and Nicky can exert some control early on in Midfield we should be able to come away with atleast a score draw.
Porto aren't the best away from home when put under pressure, so a good result over there especailly if we can get a goal or 2 and we should be ok. Hopefully

i first thought 4-4-2, would be good and to play saha but then it is CL and 4-4-2 in EPL has shown our weaknesses so its important to have 2 DM's in this line up against porto who can attack and have some skillful players. Deco will really pressure us.

Rio out with ban
Silvestre out with injury
I thought Ole wasn't going to Porto 'cos SAF decided to play him in the reserve match against Wolves instead?

Not totally surprised if O'Shea doesn't play. I definitely think he was one of the younger players Keano was having a pop at recently.

I got faith, they'll keep a clean sheet today =)...
Although, I'm curious to see how Kleb play, if he's preferred over Butt, as I recall some people (from my newbie experience, hehe) highly rate him as a good/solid defensive midfielder ;)
