Fellaini | Mou: "It's easier for Galatasaray to get me than Marouane. He is too important to me."

I won't lie. I've never wanted Fellaini at United but I feel he's one of those players you've got to keep in the squad especially in the dying minutes when you're facing a draw or something and you're trying to throw the kitchen sink in the dying minutes to get that goal. I mean I don't want him part of the first 11 but he's not a nuisance to have as a squad player.

I think Fellaini will stay, sorry folks!
You don't have to apologise, it's not like it's down to you

He signed an extension in January.
He didn't sign anything. He had a clause in his contract for +1 year which was on the club's discretion. We merely activated that clause and notified him. The normal period of his contract was expiring on the 1st of June this year, two weeks from today. His contract now expires on the 1st of June '18 and there's no clause any more, because it's already been used up. Which means he either signs a new deal this summer, or he's free to negotiate a Bosman move form the 1st January '18 (for the 1st July '18)

Heading towards Trabzonspor? Just a shame he was aiming for the top corner.

Does Jose trust Pereira? If he does, he may let Fellaini go, however, who else would you play on that long rainy, windy, freezing night at the Britannia?

4 out of 5 times he'll completely destroy team's chemistry and the last 10 minutes will turn to pointless and harmless crossing. 1 out of 5 times (probably less than that) he'll score, but it isn't worth it.

Agreed. Mou rates him since he plays him quite a lot and sold Schneiderlin and not Fellaini. I wouldn't mind keeping him at OT as an option from the bench, unless we get ridiculous amounts of money for him.

Expect him to stay. We are thin in midfield as it is.

I personally hope not. He's a player who can cover 3 positions and he doesn't complain when sitting on the bench. Valuable squad player who's been space goated since Moyes first transfer window.
I read this a lot on here, but is it actually a good thing?

Useful as a squad player. The sort that you need in the shitty months of the season at the likes of Stoke, Burnley etc

I think it's a good thing in that you need those squad players who accept their squad status and who realise that it's a team effort.

I'm sure there are plenty of people on here though that would take his acceptance of squad status to mean a lack of drive or ambition.

Well, I don't mind Fellaini. He recently scored a goal that helped us get to the EL final. On his day, he can be very difficult to play against. Don't want to see him starting in midfield for us but we haven't always had many options this year.

I'm not supporting the method but 1 out of 5 times statistically is pretty good for a super sub.

To be honest, the ideal situation now would be for us to sign two top class midfielders to rotate in a three with Pogba and Herrera and keep Fellaini as a fifth until January where we can assess our progress in the cups and decide if he is going to be needed.

Also scored in the fa cup semis last year. I wouldn't mind keeping him around, he stays fit and when used correctly he follows instructions well.

Like I said, less than that, if you really count. I doubt it's even 1 in 15

If Fellaini is sold, we're definitely buying two midfielders. Unless Rooney is staying. :nervous:

See thats the thing i don't know if it is a good thing for that reason, surely you want players in the squad who are hungry and think they are good enough to be first choice?

In the past i would agree with what you are saying. Back then it was fine we were a top side and we had some players who knew they were maybe not world class players but they were very good players and accepted a squad role because they knew they would still play a lot of games and it was their best chance to win league titles/champions leagues. But a player who is happy to be a squad option in a side thats finished 7th-4th-5th-6th, i'm not sure thats the type of player to help United get back to the top.

Having said that i wouldn't necessarily say Fellaini is happy being a back-up, i would hope he has the hunger and motivation to try to prove he should be a 1st choice player. Not his biggest fan but fair play to him he's managed to find his way into the team at the business end of the season 3 years in a row under two different managers.

Jose seems to rate him. Fellaini's a decent asset to have as a squad player next season who can come in and cause chaos in games where we need to give first teamers a rest or for when we need to go route one for last 10 mins of games. Some of our key players look like they've played too much this season so Jose for sure will hang onto anyone he feels he can trust. I'd say not a day goes by where Moyes doesn't look at that photo of himself and Marouane in his wallet thinking what might have been had he been able to convince him to join him on wearside

Id like to think our players have more ambition than bloody Oscar who went to China in his mid 20s

His contract was extended a few months ago.
We activated the +1 year, he'd have been out of a contract this summer otherwise and could have signed a deal with another club. As we planned to use him and would no doubt prefet to sell him than lose him for free, it's a no brainer.

It took an awful long time for certain fans and in particular snobbish pundits to appreciate what a player like Park Ji Sung offered to United. He was a specialist in graft and nullifying another footballer.

I see Fellaini in a similar light. Not that he plays the same exact role but it is a specialized role in the squad that can be very valuable in certain matches. But come a grand final, just like Park in Moscow he'd not play.

If Jose keeps him around past the summer I expect Fellaini's burdensome reputation as a Moyes player among all else to dissolve. If he is happy w a big part role I'd love to keep him here. One because he truly plays his heart out, albeit naive at times. And because that overcoming of so much animosity from others with the managers support will be good for the locker room spirit and an example to the others when things aren't going their way.

I think whilst Mourinho has utilised him and trusted him, in the long term he will not be in Mourinho's plans.

Fellaini has been identified as the best out of the three dead weight midfielders in Bastian, Morgan and himself. But I'm sure this summer Mourinho will this summer have a big transfer window and shape this team much more the way he wants it, so if an offer for Fellaini comes he will probably sell.

I fully trust Jose to bring two good midfielders in to bolster this squad.

I wouldn't mind him as a squad player but then again Jose wouldn't be able to resist the temptation of having a 6'4 skyscraper in the field to bring down hoofed balls by his magical chest, so he'll end playing most games.

If this happens and Carrick retires/leaves as expected then that leaves us with the following:

Herrera.
Pogba.

My heart says "drive him there yourself" but my head says we haven't enough numbers. Hopefully we sign 2 or 3 this summer.

Thats why we sell him and replace him
really cannot see it happen unless Jose can a better man-mountain somewhere else- he likes 'em big, he likes 'em strong, he likes 'em athletic and Fellaini ticks many of Jose's boxes
