I honestly don't get the hype. Its a good transfer for City, because you can't do much wrong with this fee , but has anyone actually watched him?
Last season under Marcelino, he was a sub and hardly started outside the early copa rounds. While Valencia played boring football, they were successful and Marcelino is a very good coach in terms of results. Part of the hype of Ferran Torres came from the fact, that he was an academy product and somewhat slightly more creative than the rest of the team. His competition was Carlos Soler, Wass or coquelin. It was probably tough to shine as attacking player, but his performances were hardly special. At the beginning of this season he was still not a nailed on starter for Marcelino even so it looked like he planned to use him a bit more. Than their manager got sacked and replaced by a puppet of the owner, who demanded that his talents (Kang-in Lee and Ferran Torres) get much more time on the pitch. At this point the whole club was toxic, but Torres played because the owner wanted him to start games, not because of his performances. I understand why any player would want to leave Valencia, but he hardly suffered individually from it. His last interview is a bit of a joke. He didn't show anything to make these demands. He didn't even show enough to be a certain starter for Valencia.
He might be a much better fit for the type of football, that City is playing, but if he doesn't show a lot more than he has so far, he'll struggle to get in the first team squad. Foden has shown more quality in the little time he got, than he did.
