Money grubbing twats.

Just like the ESL it's predicated on a stupid idea that it will bump up viewership when it clearly won't.

Nobody wants to see international football saturated by more countries, more shit teams, more dead rubber games, more qualifiers etc. It's bad enough as it is and has been declining in popularity as it is. People don't care about watching more Saudi Arabia vs Leichtensteins, even the people in these countries don't care and won't watch.
Such an elitists views. Maybe for you its a shit team but for those teams who's lucky enough to be in the world cup it's a great joy to their country.

Those deadwood teams provided more entertainment for neutrals. Teams like jamaica, turkey, denmark, japan, new zealane offerw breath of fresh airs. And they're not exactly cannon fodder as well. They've closed the gap in recent years

Can’t wait to see what Saudi Arabia gets out of this.

But yes, let’s destroy the prestige of the tournament by running it every two years. How about every year feck it. Sack pre-season off and players can take part in the “World Cups” staged in Neom.

Dumbest idea ever. Why can’t the gulf states launder their money through American sports?

Never. On top of the obvious things, the World Cup is also a milestone marker for a lot of people, which makes something that is already inherently special even more special.

It would cause havoc for continents that have qualifiers which last about 3 years

This. Close thread.

How on earth they're even considering it with the calendar as packed as it is - let alone the reduction in prestige as a result boggles the mind (yeah I know, $$$).

The World Cup is probably my favourite football competition.

It is the number one competition that even people who aren't fans of football watch. Part of the reason is because it is rarely on. It should stay as it is.
