So will the kits and leagues still be available? If not then I’m out for good.

I think so.

This is solely for the FIFA brand name on the box (and probably the world cup)... All the teams /names /leagues is a separate licencing issue I think.

I can't see any other major gaming studio coming into play. EA will continue to dominate the football/soccer gaming market.

Hopefully someone steps in and makes a new game where they put some actual effort into the other game modes rather than milking their loot box mode and leaving the rest to rot.

Haven’t bought fifa since either 18 or 19 and can’t see the point in buying it going forward unless they put some more effort into the single player game.

It doesn't change anything though, it's just the name. They still have the rights to all the players and teams. Whatever they don't, they can just cover it with fake names

EA Sports FC is a terrible name

Brand recognition is a huge thing and when you think of Fifa your mind immediately goes to the game as opposed to the governing body. But I don't think it's going to be that detrimental.

Apparently EA pays Fifa around $150 million per year, although EA's Fifa has made a cool $20 billion in sales to date! So the deal doesn't seem too bad. But apparently Fifa are now asking for double that, hence the disagrement i think.

It isn't that different to what they agreed with the NFL - and FIFA is far more lucrative.

EA’s five-year extension from 2021 to 2026 is worth $1.5 billion, with the split being “at least $1 billion to the NFL and $500 million to the players,” reports Darren Rovell at Action Network. Aside from the fees EA is paying to the NFL and NFLPA, the agreements include a total of $500 million in “marketing commitments,” according to Rovell.

So in the very unlikely event that Fifa struck a deal with another studio, could the other studio then just call the game Fifa?

Super Fun Happy Football 2023 next year then.

Been 10 years since I’ve bought a FIFA or a Pro Evo. I feel old as feck.

I think the major difference is supposed to be that NFL license comes with all the names and teams while FIFA are only offering them the federation name and a World Cup branding every four years which as an asset is not worth anywhere near that. I don’t think being able to call your game FIFA and being able to produce an additional mode every 4 years is worth $250m a year.

Their domestic licenses should still be intact and I think they also got a pretty good deal with UEFA which covers European competition.

Nah, that is the $500m to the players (NFLPA), which is separate from the $1bn to the NFL. EA have already agreed a fee with FIFPro for the players and names for football.

Hope the old thread bump is ok - didn't want to start a new thread when this one exists.

I'm not an expert on gaming, so apologies if this is a ridiculous question, but I have seen EA are creating EA Sports FC in place of Fifa 24 and rumours that Fifa are creating a game to rival it (presumably called Fifa 24?)

Which one will be the popular one and the one which will be most like the current Fifa games? I'd guess the one that EA are making will be the same gameplay etc?

Don't know about FIFA creating their own game but yeah EA Sports FC will simply be an update to the current game same as they've for years but with a new name this time. Just another crappy iteration of a crap game probably.

Don’t think we have any details about the FIFA developed game yet.

EAFC 24 will be exactly the same as FIFA 23. Probably with NEW TECH MOTION LOOSE FOOT DYNAMIC DRIBBLING

Thanks. I'll probably end up getting the EA Sports FC game out of interest.

Thanks. If you google 'ea football 2024' like I did (because I couldn't remember the name of it), there are some 10 month old articles saying that Fifa will develop a game to rival the EA one, but I didn't click on them so I assume they were just rumour.

You've sold me with "loose foot" - long overdue.

I mean, FIFA have yet to get anything wrong that I'm aware of, so I have to assume they'll knock this out of the park, too.

The one most like the current trash they put out will unsurprisingly be the one EA make.

2K would be nice just to get a player career mode with a little bit of depth, although it's been a while since I've played a 2k sports game so maybe they don't do this anymore.

I don't care what it's called; if they don't move on from FrostShite engine now that they're well and truly in the Next-Gen era, then feck them. At least PES/EFootball are on Unreal 4 and porting their game onto Unreal 5 engine next year.
