Keane could be one of them, but i'm struggling to think of a really good united centre midfielder that wasn't british as well.
Just keep coming up with Anderson. I dare say an Anderson/Johnsen combo could work in CM...then we'd need a good RB. I suppose we could consider Rafael even at this early stage

Using location as a tagline: because I'm just not
Off the top of my head their team was

Schmeichel
Berg Vidic Stam Evra
Ronaldo Muhren Veron Kanchelskis
Cantona Van Nistelrooy

Saha, Solskjaer, Johnsen, Anderson, Van Der Sar and a few others on the bench

(they weren't counting Irish lads for the purpose of the exercise)

Is a place. Not a nationality. 'British' as a nationality clearly relates to people from the UK.

When doing a 'foreign' XI, the likes of keane, irwin and carey should all be up for consideration. Welsh and scots you might have more of an argument over (what with holding British passports and all) but those from RoI are in no way not foreign.

Fwiw

Schmikes
Irwin
Stam
McGrath
Evra
Kanchelskis
Keane
Veron
Ronaldo
Cantona
Ruud

Subs: VDS, Johnson, Vidic, Anderson, Ole, Saha, Yorke

------------Schmeichel

Irwin---------Stam-------Vidic------Evra
Kanchelskis-----Keane(C)----Veron-----Ronaldo
-------Cantona----Van Nistelrooy

Keane and Irwin were classed as foreign under Champions League rules in the 90's. They are foreign, Ireland isn't in the UK.

Remember an Irish person telling me that it was as obsolete a phrase as calling them the Pretanic Isles.

Keane wasn't born in the British Empire, neither was Irwin, and Gibson defected allegiance, you may as well include Yorke, Bosnich, Fortune, Howard etc.

Swap Ronnie Johnsen for Muhren in that line-up...
not saying that Ronnie was a better player, especially in Midfield, but he did play there occasionally and was actually a very good tackler/ destroyer and would be well suited as a ball winner for Veron.

feck me, that's one hell of a team

I'm also thinking that Nani is on the verge of replacing Kanchelskis in this side if he keeps his play up.

Agree with this one but I'd sub in Kevin Moran (sure he played some games in the middle of the park) for Veron.

More of an argument? There's no argument to be had.

And Ireland is rightfully Britain's, anyway. People in the RoI have just been granted temporary independence. They're as British as tea and crumpets.

Wrong ROI is owned by the EU and IMF, Britian is owned by the USA and the French Navy.

OK, (and without starting another thread).... name a United XI where the player is the only player ever to play for United from his country... ie. PIG - Poland, Park - South Korea etc.

Not entirely sure if it can be done...
