Not to shit on everyone’s happiness in here but ETH said midfield and attack were the priority areas for signings days before spending 55m on a CB…
Players aren’t signed in order of priority at any club.

Chelsea have the least priority at LB yet they’ve just spent £62m on one when they have more need in attack and CBs.

We signed Malacia when LB was one of the last positions we needed to strengthen.

Completely irrelevant to my point. We signed a CB…that’s the point. After saying our priority areas were elsewhere we signed a CB - just like Tuchel saying a CM wouldn’t be number 1 priority doesn’t mean they won’t sign a CM.
I don’t remember ETH saying midfield and attack were priorities. Where did he say it? I clearly remember him saying we had problems on the left side of our defence last season. Hence he signed Malacia and Martinez.

ETH didn't say CB wasn't a priority, though
ten Hag saw the opportunity to bring in a CB that he liked, and he took that opportunity. I imagine outside of Varane and Macguire (maybe Lindelof too) he doesn't see much backup in case of an injury? Who knows

He said it during the tour when asked what areas he wanted to add players. He also said it was vital we add attackers if we want success last week.

Neither did Tuchel. He said CM wasn’t number 1 priority.

See that's different. He mentioned CM as something of lesser importance. ETH didn't give any weighting to CB

of course it doesn’t mean chelsea aren’t going to sign a midfielder because Tuchel just said it’s “not a priority”. But at the same time it would be extremely unusual for them to then sign a midfielder for 85m when it’s not a priority position.

Well he did…he was asked what are the areas you need to strengthen and he specifically mentioned midfield and attack. I don’t think it’s a huge jump to suggest by saying them he places those two of a higher importance.

I think he means ETH said we need forwards and midfielders (i.e. defence was lower priority) but then went and signed a CB. But I just don’t remember ETH saying that.

Regardless players are never signed in order of priority.

Tuchel just said: “‘maybe not midfielders as first priority” (or words to that effect) on Sky Sports post match interview
Shite, so he's after a CB like Frenkie :(

Down to 99% confident now.

"Not necessarily midfielders as a first option".

Doesn't sound like they're going to spaff £80m on one. Unless the Toddster has come over all FM, as Andy Mitten seems to think.
Really doubt that they're going to spend €85m on a midifelder when they need a striker and they want Fofana. I just don't see it happening at all, and it just makes me think that all the Chelsea links are most definitely out of Barca

Yeah yeah I know, still think it's a bit different. They're also different people though, so comparing their rationale might be difficult. Probably doesn't mean much either way

According to one of the fanzines I was reading this week Ten Hag made clear in one of his first meetings that a left sided centre half was a priority (so Martinez).

This is my point really. He can say it isn’t a top priority but if uncle Todd says I’ve agreed to sign FDJ do you want him I highly doubt he’s saying no. Ultimately it’s all about how much cash Chelsea actually have…can they really go to a 300m plus net spend?

Speaking to Algemeen Dagblad, Waterreus said: "I can no longer hear the slogan 'Més Que Un Club' (more than a club). Barcelona are a commercial monstrosity, in my eyes it symbolises everything that makes modern football so ugly.

"The way in which they are now blackmailing Frenkie is a striking example of this. I hope he keeps his footing and stays unless they harass him more and he smashes his own windows for the World Cup. Then he better go to United, where he’s wanted anyway."

I do wonder if that will actually play a factor in his decision (if Chelsea are involved that is). Will he want to go somewhere he feels wanted? And would Chelsea make him feel wanted, when it's clear to all if they did bid, it'd jsut be cause he's a big name and they want to make an impression this window.

It's clear from how United have chased him that ten Hag wants him and will make him feel valued

Berba was my all time favourite signing. I watched every minute of that on Transfer Deadline Day and loved it. Seeing Berba walking down the corridor at OT through the window was epic.
What a transfer that was
I especially liked the scurrilous tabloid hack who said on Sky Sports, to a yellow tie wearing Jim White, that UTD had strong-armed Berba into a taxi at Manchester Airport, just as a contingent of City negotiators were due to meet him off the plane. I'm sure they issued the instruction "follow that cab" with poor Dimitar waving forlornly out of the rear window as the car sped off to Old Trafford.

Endgame. They HAVE to sell him in the next week
They. Are. Fecked
wouldn’t a swap with city forBernardo Silva make the most sense?
Or if he’ll only talk to Chelsea we are out of it.

Sounds like firm negotiation advice

It’s not out of their ability is it?

Way too overly positive and sensical post by you and comment by the former player! Leave a club that isn't treating you properly and trying to not pay you what is contractually obligated?! To that, leave to a team and manager who will play you to your stregnths which also is similar to the way your country plays in a World Cup year?! No.........stop posting this stuff!

Chelsea have spent what? 62m on Cucurella, 35 on KK, 50 on Sterling, and 20 on Carne Asada. That’s 147m. Then another 85m likely to go on Fofana, that’s 232m. And they clearly want another striker. Plus Tuchel has said midfield isn’t a priority, and they’ve bid 25m for Casadei. Have Gallagher on the bench not getting minutes, plus Kovacic and RLC. I just can’t see them forking out another 80m on FDJ. That’d take their net spend to over 300m and towards 350m accounting for a striker and Casadei. At some point financial reality and FFP have to kick in.

No it's not, but i just can't see it happening. They're spending a whole crap ton on Fofana, and they need a striker or two. Are they just going to blow £300m+ this summer? I highly doubt it

Probably some of it is message to Boehly from Tuchel, he doesn't have any problems doing it as seen in the past.

Also (regardless of how many times it's been said), Barcelona are such a shit club.

They are plastic. Why would FFP be some kind of hindrance to them

Tuchel suggesting midfielders aren’t a priority seems like a bigger deal than people are making out

Thought some journalists would be on it at least

Remember when someone said Chelsea wouldn't spend in an insane fashion again once Abrahmovic had left

One signing we may be in trouble on with Chelsea is the Sesko signing, they are in for him because why not...would love us to get both as i think both are needed almost equally.

Strong but fair words from Tuchel I thought.
