This sounds like De Jong is agreeing to a heavy salary cut.
How does it??
He's saying exactly what the supporters want to hear! When he DOES leave, they can spin it and say we wanted him to stay but he wouldn't agree to a salary reduction etc.
Keep the fans happy, simple.

He's hardly going to come out and say "We're broke, we need to get rid of him"

Same as any other clubs with their best players, they're going to deny everything aren't they?
That’s true but they are probably stringing us along knowing we are desperate and keeping their options open. Doesn’t help that the player doesn’t seem eager to leave either as he’s probably happy to keep his options open as well.

Could just be Laporta covering himself. Then when he leaves he can say "we wanted to keep him but he wasn't willing to lower his wages".
Of course it is man, everything is agreed, he’s gone and the money will be used for Lewa.
And as with Messi, he’ll say “hands were tied, wage was too high and there was nothing we could do”, just as with Messi, it’ll be the player’s choice rather than Laporta’s.

Funny meltdown in here still mind

What exactly do people expect him to say in that situation?

So if Frenkie stays, where is the Lewa and Raphina money coming from? Some people thrive on negative news it seems
It’s ridiculous honestly, I swear lots of posters on this place just want to be negative & only post when they have something perceived as bad news etc it’s a joke, this place is horrid these days

If they desperately wanted him to stay they wouldn't have spent the last month negotiating his exit with us while shopping around Europe for new toys.

Highly doubt it as Barca are known to be in negotiations for Raphinha, so if they string us along, they're also screwing themselves over too.
As i say, they need to sell to buy. They want Lewa too, they need the cash and we're willing to give it them

“We have no intention of selling him , the player wants to stay “ Laporta
He's hardly going to say "we're broke, we have to sell the poor lad, sorry fans, lots of hugs and kisses" is he?

Either it's over or sounds like it will drag on a few weeks yet.

Or they've used United as security knowing we'll pay whenever, while they use other options to get money to clear their liabilities.

What are people expecting him to say? It's known that he wants to stay, it's also known that Barca want him out.
They can't just say we want him gone! Fans would destroy the club and heavily criticise them. It's nothing but a face saving exercise, not sure how people can't see that.

If he was staying then we'd have briefed we're walking away long before Barca said anything. We've done it in the past many times.

Barca fans want him to stay but he is clearly going. Just your typical spin to make it look like they tried to keep him. Literally had the "but" in his statement. Would be different if he said "He's a Barca player now and will be for years" yet he basically said here "We want to keep him but he needs to cut his salary to stay". Barca just had to get the spin out there before he goes. If he was staying they would have come out and said it weeks ago.\

Barca came with the same spin with Messi who is the clubs biggest legend and he's gone.

Not even sure what is a piss take or just relentless negativity and pessimism anymore
There is absolutely nothing to be positive about. This is a simple deal to do, pay the cash and get the player.

People seem to have forgotten that the reported difference between the clubs is around the same amount of money the Glazers took out in dividends last week.

It's never easy with us, is it? And people genuinely think we've changed.

The only time anyone needs to worry is when multiple sources put out that we're walking away or don't see any point in further negotiations.

That means we've briefed the media and we're out of the running. Until that point, why the meltdown?

People are negative.

Absolutely nothing whatsoever has changed in any way. It's a negotiation stance FFS
