Those quotes are exactly the types you'd expect to hear out of the Barca president. What do people expect him to say? The negotiations are ongoing.
He’s not going to say he’s going to do everything to keep him if he knows he’s off.. makes Barca look weak

He’s staying. And the media reports will reflect that over the rest of the weekend

Quotes like that from Laporta are the exact reason why I questioned in the Raphinha thread why any young, super talented player would fancy Barca at this moment in time. They’ve been begging their best players to take pay cuts and they’ve been begging anyone who will give it to them money to stay afloat.

Why would you want to be there as a player?

Not for sale. Will try everything to stop him leaving.
Player doesn't want to leave.

I know it's all a phoney war, but I don't know where you're finding positives in those quotes?
Exactly, it’s over, move on lads. Their actual president has said it ain’t happening so it ain’t happening.

Thinking this myself. Can’t see why De Jong wouldn’t take a pay cut to stay since he seems to love it there so much. I think De Jong kills this when he reruns from holiday

So are they using us, to re-negotiate a pay cut for De Jong to stay?
Again, if that was the case, we'd know about it and we'd have briefed that we're walking away.

Jesus, am sure some people here think that United just have a team of guys sat on Twitter pressing F5 over and over getting their info from random journos. (I mean, the way we conduct transfers, it could be likely, but yeah)
The guys within the club know a shite ton more than those on twitter and if they feel it's within our best interests to walk away, then we will do. For us to continue to negotiate, he's clearly wanting to come and Barca clearly want to sell

Seems impossible to me. Can they actually pay for and register Raphinha, Kessie, Lewa etc.?

Their reasons for getting rid of him make too much sense. They need a forward, a right winger (assuming dembele is leaving) and a defensive CM.

Selling their future revenue so they can keep FdJ? I doubt it.

Would you take a 100% cut in wages to stay a club where you feel you’re used incorrectly?

Yeah I don’t think that’s happening. Frenkie agreeing to cut his wage in half, no chance.

Laporta literally said the same thing about Messi last year and then he fecked off to Paris. Made him and Barca look utterly incompetent and weak that they couldn't get the biggest club legend to stay and potentially finish his career there.

Their president has said he’s not gonna sell him, are you mental? some proper copium by you
We've also said we have no intention of selling Ronaldo, but he'll go.
We've done it LOADS in the past with our players, you're never going to admit to selling your best players, it's career suicide for him if he does

Yeah I don’t think that’s happening.
I don't think even a 100% paycut would cover it. At this rate, they're using their "economic levers" to pay for FdJ - a player they don't even need.

How are they going to pay Leeds and Bayern otherwise?

Ya how I see it too. You can make public statements to pressure the buying side of course but the things being said are important.

Reminds me of when Dortmund said that they would no longer sell Sancho as we had missed the cut off and everyone thought they were bluffing.

Teams aren't going to make such absolute and definitive statements, only to turn around and do the opposite. Especially teams like Barca who are trying so hard to convince people they are back on track

Just trying paint De Jong as the bad guy for not taking a pay cut etc

No doubt Untied Twitter is losing their collective s**t over this.

Agree, so so frustrating! He would look even more stupid than he already does but they are not the words of someone negotiating. Game over I’m afraid.

From waking up this morning with a promising forecast for the coming season to Ronaldo wanting to leave and then immediately after de Jong likely staying and the continued radio silence from Eriksen. What a day to be alive…

I need a drink…

Again, if you believe it’s still on fair enough but to me this looks completely dead, beyond resuscitating. I’ll leave this thread at that anyway, don’t wanna drag everyone down with my negativity.

Right but what if they just realise they couldn't get Lewandowski and Raphinha this summer, maybe its not a bad idea to try get pay cut for FDJ to stay....

He's going to do everything in his power => he's going to give a shit contract offer and use that as a tool to say FdJ didn't want to stay.

Difference is, FDJ is happy at Barca.
