Just make it simple, if somebody’s position is offside; they’re off. Talking about challenging play or going for the ball is bollocks. They’re on the fecking pitch, if they’re not going for the ball, they need to be hauled off.

I totally agree, and it's obviously subjective, but in all fairness it's a problem of consistency more than anything. This very call isn't far fetched, the problem is the way they use this rule in various game.

I understand how you could say Maguire interferes with the defender, still feels like a bit of a reach to say they would have got there.

Also amazes me that offsides are taken from a T-Shirt line, that you cannot see as the skins players wear are the same colour as the sleeves.

Replay clearly showed Maguire going for the ball and the defender was worried about Maguire, not Garnacho. If anything, Maguire going down could have been a penalty. Did they look at that? No.

Maguire is offside, occupies their man and plays at the ball so is therefore interfering with play and is pinged. If that's the rule I can see why they've chalked it off as all of those things happened.

That rule does strike me as shite though. We'll need to get to a point where every player must be onside at all phases of play as surely defenders are being occupied by any player in their eye line. Runs in behind are basically dead as you'll be screwing attacks up by running offside more often than you stay onside.
