Garth Crooks appreciation thread

Just watching him on BBC's livescore, my fecking word, I don't think I've ever seen or heard a worse pundit. The man is insufferable, he thinks he knows everything, from what hair cuts the players should have to which positions the goalkeepers should cover.

I refuse to pay for my T.V. License for him alone!!

He just seems to be a very very odd person. The way he speaks, the opinions he holds on football.

Baffling how his mind works

He's back.

And again, his "Crooks of the matter" rant at the bottom is about Pogba and Mourinho. It always is.

Well, here we go again. Another nine months of blood sweat and undoubted tears for all of us who love the game. By the way, what a fabulous World Cup. I haven't seen games like that since 1982. After my condemnation of the infamous VAR during its ill-fated debut in the FA Cup last season, I have to admit the system worked in Russia.

Notwithstanding all of that, nothing prepared me for the performances of Paul Pogba.

Even Jose Mourinho had to acknowledge Pogba's enormous success when he remarked: "I hope he remembers what made him so good."

This was Mourinho at his best, of course. He recognised Pogba's achievements while lacing the comment with strychnine! The veiled threat suggested that if the World Cup winner doesn't perform for him in the way he did for Didier Deschamps, he could once again find himself sitting on the Manchester United bench - or on his way.

However, the universal approval of Pogba's performance in the World Cup spoke volumes about his discipline and selflessness for the cause. The player even dispensed with the grandiose hairstyles in order to minimise the attention on himself and place the emphasis on the team.

Pogba is no Glenn Hoddle - or Paul Gascoigne, for that matter - but he is a Martin Peters.

All three players played for their country but only Peters won a World Cup. I really hope Pogba can shove Mourinho's hollow accolade down his throat and become the United legend he craves to be.

What the Frenchman delivered in Russia was magnificent. The question is, can he deliver the Premier League title for Mourinho at United? Only that will grant him legendary status at Old Trafford.

Is there a man alive with more hatred for Jose than Garth Crooks?

Putting Walker at CB for team of the week after the perfect FB performance he played against Arsenal. Jesus Christ who pays these guys.

What surprises me is there are 3 United players in there. We weren’t even that good.

Pogba for certain should have been in there. Mendy was all over the place for City and got two assists.

Just shows he watches one game then looks at who scored in the others.

Is it racist to suggest he's employed to tick a box?

I'm far from a racist but his drivel seems to be encouraged.

Black pundits have decided if you criticise a black player it is probably racist. What horse poo. Ian Wright has decided that criticism of Raheem Sterling comes down to racism. Worse still the BBC give this nonsense coverage on its website.

Ian Wright is an awful pundit. Can barely string a few sentences together. That has nothing to do with him being black.
Ince, Barnes were poor managers. Not because they're black because there poor managers.

A manager/pundit should not be employed to fulfil a quota/tick a box or any other nonsense. They should be employed because as a manager they have ability or as a pundit because they are insightful. A pundit should add to your knowledge of the game. A manager should leave a club in a better position than what he inherited.

So tired of all these black pundits crying racism all the time when clearly there's no racism in football, even FIFA says so. Also so tired of these token black pundits being forced upon the public, why not give more air time to the living legends of punditry like Tim Sherwood and Paul Merson? But no they don't have the right "look". PC brigade strikes again.

Where has all the racism talk come from? There's not a single mention of skin colour in that article

Genuinely heard he was leaving sports punditry for an acting career. Has a bit part role in the new Star Wars apparently?

DARTH CROOKS

Some people are taking it bad because Ian Wright called out the media treatment of Sterling for what it is. Liverpool fan above went off on one about it.

Merson instantly came to mind when I read their posts.

No mention of Pogba's hair this week, but he does go on a tirade about Mourinho.

The Crooks of the matter

The "impolite" comment directed towards Jose Mourinho by a member of Chelsea's coaching staff did not warrant his reaction.

In my view, Mourinho was more offended by the timing of the equaliser and having two points snatched from his grasp at a ground that means so much to him than he was by the comment.

Did the comment add insult to injury? Of course it did, but he should know better than anyone - that's football.

Think about it. How on earth could Mourinho not recognise the irony of the passing comment when his career has been littered with rudeness and barbed comments directed at others?

He had the temerity to call Arsene Wenger a "specialist in failure", poke another coach in the eye, and often leaves the pitch after shaking the hand of his opposite number before the end of the game, which is as impolite as sticking two fingers up to them.

And who can forget that sunny afternoon at Stamford Bridge involving the the former Chelsea manager and his physiotherapist Eva Carneiro?

No, Mourinho is not the victim here. He has simply reaped what he has sown.

He's right that Mourinho has past instances of being a cnut, but using it as rationale for someone else being a cnut doesn't really work. Mourinho got a taste of his own medicine, but the guy fist pumping twice in the faces of United staff should be criticised as well, but he gets off without even being named because Mourinho was mean to Wenger 5 years ago.

Imagine if he ever got appointed to do the Fifa Ultimate team TOTW's. Who would get Messi's wing back card?

Yeah I think Mourinho's reaction was fine. Let it go the first time, reacted the second then accepted the apology and went to great lengths to stop the Sky journalist from making a bigger deal of it. If he wrote this between the match ending and the post match interview, fine, if he's been sat on this all weekend, then I'm afraid he's just a thick cnut.

No words...

Graeme Souness has given the best analysis of Pogba I have ever heard. Should Pogba happen to listen to the Liverpool and Scottish legend, he too could become a really great player

Who the feck do these people think they are. Only if he listens to the once mighty, hugely successful manager Souness, he will become a great success. Unbelievable.

As much as I don’t like the pundit Graeme Souness you can not deny how much success he had as a player. Have a look at the amount of trophies he won with Liverpool.

True. But he was an awful manager and besides that, he and crookes clearly have it in for pogba.

Valencia and Jones, 2 of our worst players made his team of the week.

Valencia and Jones, 2 of our worst players made his team of the week.

We all know Crooks is a complete fraud. He couldn't have actually watched the Utd game - his write up for Valencia is just a dig at Jose, and that's the only reason he's in there. It was like playing with 10 men. No idea how Jones got in there either.

I'm fecking fuming my liscence money goes to this fool.
A random guy off the street is better informed.

Here’s what he says:

Antonio Valencia: How good is it to see Antonio Valencia back in a Manchester United side? Here is another player I have no doubt is delighted to see the back of Jose Mourinho. The Ecuador international played the game against Newcastle United as though he had never been away. United are playing like a team that might win things again. If I were Chelsea or Arsenal I would be very concerned. Fourth spot now looks like a three-horse race and right now my money is on United.

Phil Jones: This is a player who has found himself struggling to get into the Manchester United team prior to the departure of Mourinho. However, if Phil Jones keeps making recovery tackles like the one he made on Salomon Rondon in the early stages of the game with Newcastle then, barring injury, the England international may find himself a permanent fixture in the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer era. The tackle required a focus I've not seen in Jones for some time.

Just read the article on the BBC. What a fecking idiot. Valencia and Jones should be nowhere near there. Lindelof was miles better than Jones and Valencia offered absolutely nothing. Was like playing with 10 men. Wtf is this guy thinking?

His weekly lineups always make me laugh (if someone scores a goal, they are in) but if ever there was proof he doesn't actually watch the games, this week is it.

To have Jones ahead of Lindelof is laughable, but including Valencia after Wednesday is just ridiculous.

The same recovery tackle he himself initially instigated due to another typical Phil Jones brainfart.
And Antonio Valencia ? this guy (Crooks) doesn't have a clue.
