He certainly seems to know how to keep himself in the public mind, really that’s the only thing he’s being paid to do.

I don’t think Gary’s in a position to preach good financial practice while he’s buddies with Peter Lim

Getting more and more dead by the minute:

He‘s embarassng himself. FdJ is under no legal obligation to accept reduced wages, it can only be done by mutual consent. In the meantime everyone and their dog, but not GNev, know that Barça needs to reduce their overhead costs to keep the party going. Gary would be lot better off if he were to only comment on matters he actually possesses some semblance of know-how.

As much as I dislike Neville., what the feck are you on about? Barca keep buying new players whilst being in hundreds of millions of debt and owing current players money. What part of that are you not getting?

Barca isn't refusing to pay FdJ, but FdJ agreed to that deal. So there is nothing he could take legal action about as long as Barca pays the agreed reduced salary.

The only part of that tweet that is vaguely on the money is the bullying bit. Even then we have little evidence of how this is playing out behind the scenes.

its a stupid take from gary. he tries to boil it down to a bullying case in the end... barca are on a tightrope and playing a risky game. but there is nothing immoral about buying players 1) while in debt (united are in debt) or 2) while owing players money as per a contract (same as owing any entity money, including debt holders, money owed where the conditions of payment are outlined in a simple contract).

people act like the agreement for players to take a wage deferral was framed as 'we cant afford to pay your wages' but it was clearly 'we need to reduce your wage so we can improve the squad under these tight conditions and try to compete'

there has been a lot of press gossip about all this, again from people like gary whose job isn't to come up with real analysis, just to capture the attention of the lowest common denominator.

if FDJ agreed to a wage payment deferral it will be outlined which triggers cause these wages to be paid. do we really think they haven't considered what happens if someone leaves? do we think frenkies agent overlooked that?

my best guess of all the delays is barca want united fees to account for that 17m and effectively pay it. meanwhile there is a credible threat that FDJ will agree a reduced contract... he has already agreed a deferred contract so clearly happy to make sacrifices to stay... so barca might feel they can hold out and united will agree to a better deal for them later in the summer. FDJ is going to get paid his money either way, under whatever is laid out in the agreement. that might be paid over a term or lump sum who knows. but both barca and united clearly think they have leverage to hold out for a better deal - this is the basic requirement for a transfer saga, and they happen every summer. as we look from our perspective maybe it looks like barca are in a very weak position... but barca know FDJ wants to stay, they know united fans are up in arms even threatening to call to the CEOs house over this signing.

They want him to leave or take a pay cut. And they are refusing to pay what they owe if he does leave. So in a way, they are refusing to pay him, and want him to give up copious amounts of money either way.

Sure they would like him to, but as long as they fulfill their side of the actually existing contract there is no base for any legal action.

It surely shows Barca's current moral bankruptcy, but right now there seems to be no reason to move to the courtroom.

What the outrage is all about. And just so you know, deferred wages are not actually owed.

Can we have a sweepstake on the caf for how long it will take Nev to say "whereby" on the first MNF of the season?
You could have two more sweepstakes for when he says ''at this moment in time'' as well as ''to be fair''.

Right, so why does De Jong say he is owed then?
Probably because the poor guy only made 6m last year instead of the initially agreed 9m or so (dont know the exact number). Whatever way you look at it he still earned millions, which is why i have a hard time feeling sorry for him.
