Wrong type of player for me, just seems really erratic, much rather we signed either a specialist DM, or someone like Grealish who can play CM and AM or an Eriksen type who can control games. This lads hugely inexperianced, would be a massive gamble i think we can be smarter.

Never seen him live but he is an FM legend.... actually seems like a like for like replacement for Fred or mctom, huge energy and can contribute going forward and back. Makes sense that he can compete and provide cover in what is a double pivot we are all mostly happy with today.

I know people think we need to add creativity but surely we can do that in the 10 and the rw position

That said it is a nonsense source and we are constantly linked with Portuguese players via agent games so seems a bit far fetched.

I like the idea of signing young players, especially from second tier leagues, in January and I'm surprised more clubs don't do this. It essentially gives us a 6 month head start on an adjustment period and gives the Caf a 6 month head start on declaring the player a flop (See Fred performance thread)

This is funny. Literally just a couple of days ago I came across this player randomly on, I think on futhead clicked on him he had a great card. Young midfielder from Benfica with boosted stats on Fifa, only a matter of time until he gets linked to us. Transfermarkt had him 10m Euros, 600 minutes on the pitch, wearing the nr.8 now 35m is cheap cause of his release clause of 100m and falling out with the manager  Happy bargain hunting there. Can't fault the hustle of these Portuguese clubs year after year.

What are the chances he ends up somewhere like Wolves or Leicester, he settles in really well and the Caf wonders why we never signed him for the £34m?

He was very highly rated last time I heard his name being banded about, what's happened, another Renato Sanches?

Apparently Benfica have contacted 3 English clubs as well as a foreign club in their attempt to get rid of him.

I am a Benfica fan and he is not ready for United at all. He made a good first season (around 6 months) in the 1st team 2 years ago, after that when he played he played very badly and is very clumsy, he barely gets match time now and was injured during the pre season which didn't help. We are looking to loan/sell him so I really doubt if he can't even be a good rotative player in the portuguese league he would be a good signing for a top club in the PL like United.
Tells me all I need to know.

Benfica doesn't need to hustle for anything. We made a lot of sales in the last years and the investment in the squad was very small, hence the lack of quality in our first squad. From our team the only player that would be a starter in United is Ruben Dias because he is much more dominant than Lindelof ever was. Our president and his partner Jorge Mendes are just greedy about comissions and dismantling our team.

We need someone who can come in and do the job from day 1. Let's get some established players in please.

He looks incredibly one footed on that video. And like @VP89 said, he never really looks like he has the ball under control. That won’t fly in in the premier league where midfield is often brutally quick.

EDIT: Benfica fan says he is shit, yet fans on here who have never seen him are saying we should sign him up. Never change caf.

Needs a new club.. getting linked to United is free publicity.

2+2 is 4 and all that.

Hmm this isn't really credible unless it's been confirmed by Jim White or Kaveh.

He would be a fantastic signing. He's apparently one of the best products coming out of the Benfica youth. An accurate description for his style of play (from twitter scout Zach Lowy) would be:

"A box-to-box midfielder, Gedson combines stamina, fine dribbling & an ease at winning back possession." Obviously, he is still only 20 (21 in a week or so) and is yet to completely proven particularly this season not going as per plan.

But at this point, I would take any CM with both hands.

Obviously, with clubs like Lyon linked, we are the perfect name to be connected to drive up price/speed of process. So, obviously to be taken with a pinch of salt.
At this point I’d take any midfielders with one hand and one leg over Matic

If this is the response after not getting Eriksen, it's an interesting one. Ole seem to love this type of midfielders with Mejbri already in the club.

Preparation to play more advanced possession football next season ? If he's truly highly rated talent he surely won't submit to be just Pogba's injury emergency option.

He certainly doesn't look like Herrera's direct replacement whatsoever.

Seems like one of those players who cant control the ball yet is a really good dribbler.

If his YouTube highlights reel is the absolute best they can find of him, he can bugger off down to West Ham.

What interesting is not the player but actually this loan deal with an option to buy. When was the last time we did this? Probably never. There is a player who struggled to even get game times at Benfica and turn up to be a good signing when he left. Jovic last season for example.

I see what you’re doing, trying to put us off the scent and keep him for yourselves! Very clever. He’s the lovechild of Pogba and Vieira, you’ve convinced me.

Good assessment Benfica. Reminds a tiny bit about the hype over Felix. Some Portuguese fans said he’d be ideal for us and others doubted he was ready for the PL

I admit to being a bit ignorant on the matter, I tend to generalise these Portuguese clubs based on the feeling they always seems to find ways to get clubs to pay a lot for their players based on very little evidence of their potential or level. The way information comes out with this rumour supports that view frankly.

Another one that a Portuguese club is absolute desperate to get rid of, to join the long long list.

My wit's end
215 minutes in half a season.

Either he's currently nowhere near good enough to play in Portugal (which makes him a massive risk for the Premier League) or he's injury prone.

Benfica should start paying us agent fees given how often they use us to sell their players.
