Xavi 09/10 seasonBut the number of short passes played describes the role and gives an impression what kind of player he is and therefore allows us to put the other stats in the right context. Makes no sense to leave it out.
3789 minutes LL and CL
3678/4041 passes
91% accuracy
Xavi 13/14 season
3053 minutes LL and CL
3426/3658 passes
94% accuracy
Someone seeing that might assume the season where Xavi had the better passing accuracy was his better season
But that shows nothing other than "he made a load of passes"
Here is the difference between "one of the best players in the world Xavi" and "he is getting old Xavi"
09/10 season
146 chances created - 3.47 per game
17 assists
51/111 throughballs - 1.21 per game
91% passing
13/14 season
68 chances created - 2.00 per game
5 assists
14/39 throughballs - 0.41 per game
94% passing
I never look at passing accuracy for any player, I would rather they have a 75% passing accuracy and make 3 chances per game, than a 90% passing accuracy and make 0.5 chances per game
(cough, Cleverley, cough)
