Long story short

"Yes, 100 per cent," the treble winner told the Greatest Game Podcast when asked if he is concerned that the Red Devils' Premier League drought could potentially continue for decades.

"It could be 15, 20 years before you know it, especially if [Jurgen] Klopp and [Pep] Guardiola stick around.

"They have got the resources and the players so we have Liverpool to look at, where the last time when they won it in 1990. They thought 'we'll win it again soon.'

"Even Klopp, it took four-and-a-half years for him to win it - it takes a long time.

"You have to think about what Klopp did.

"He improved the team every season or won a trophy like the Champions League and then you saw the improvement so the pressure was off a little bit.

"Every manager and signing [for United] is seen as that 'he will win us the league' and it's not like that."

We'll it's been seven and we haven't even had a title challenge so you can say he's wrong.

What will happen in 3 + years is impossible to know but I think we can all say we're not challenging this year and doubtful for next year unless we get another Bruno level signing.

If we keep Ole, I’d say we’d win the league in 2 or 3 more years. The squad isn’t nearly as bad as people make it out to be. Just need a better squad dept and a right wing.

I don't think it's an outlandish view. We don't look like winning it for the next 3-4 years. After that, get a couple of appointments wrong and time flies.

On the other hand momentum is a funny thing and we definitely are big spenders so it's always within reach for a club like that.

Far to early to predict this season

More teams will be involved at the top - City and Liverpool don't look as strong - we have a squad capable of challenging

If we can keep in touch by Xmas period we can get stronger 2nd half IMO

It's true. The club doesn't really have an inherent ambition to be successful like a Madrid, Bayern or Juventus. In terms of ambition/drive we're closer to Everton and Tottenham than any of those true European giants.

Manchester United need an extremely driven and ambitious manager for it to succeed, and the fanbase and club just goes along with the ride.

Captain positive there Giggsy. No doubt he wouldn’t be so negative if he hadn’t been overlooked for the job.

Our team is very close to challenging for the league IMO. I'd say if we can bring in Konate and Zakaria for the CB and DM role then we'll be genuine title challengers. Hopefully Amad Diallo develops as we'd hope too and becomes a mainstay as the RWF.

The work and finances that have been poured into the academy over the years by Ed Woodward, Nicky Butt and the rest will also bear fruit which will be telling IMO.

I think we are building a brilliant side that is more than capable of winning the league in the next few seasons. Just need a couple more key signings and our young players to develop as we hope and we are best placed to compete in a big way.

And it could be this year. Giggs is just as good as anyone in predicting the future.

Losing to Comeback Winning!
If he say anything lower, would look silly when it passes and United fail.

15-20 years is a very very safe assumption, but he could've clarified and explained more like "winning the league is never a guarantee" or how "football is where your prediction is almost always wrong", "another Leicester can easily happen", etc etc, and just because Klopp and Pep are there, doesn't mean they will maintain at the top for a freaking 15 to 20 years?! no way, that's too long, by that time, new managers and teams will takeover the championship. Building different generations of strong championship teams in a league is difficult continuously by a manager. Not everyone can be Fergie. Klopp and Pep previous teams in different leagues declined towards the end isn't it at latter seasons before they jump ships to different leagues.

Need to step-up his football commentaries games our giggsy. Poor opinions... but maybe I'm just expecting too much from him.

HELLO
Us and Chelsea are in good positions for the next 'cycle'. The next few transfers will determine who makes the most of it but City and Liverpool will be forced into replacing their current stars in the next 3-4 years and it wont be straightforward replacing Salah, Mane and De Bruyne.

Whoever gets the next top striker will dominate.

We will win it in next 10 years.

Klopp isn’t sticking around and Liverpool owners lucked out by getting him. They were getting criticised like our owners before he came. Pep could be gone by end of season. City have been stale for the last year or so.

I mean, we went 27 years before our first title with Fergie, Liverpool went 30 years without one, so yeah could easily be 20+.

The fact that Liverpool were able to do it within 4-5 years means any of the big clubs can. We are all just 1 manager and a few good signings away from the title.

There will probably be a Euro super league before we win it again, so it'll all be a moot point anyway.

Plus Leicester winning it upset the idea that Van Gaal had that it was a "process" when like you say, in reality all it actually is, is the right manager and players. Not some massive long project.

Having said that, Arsenal are about 16 years without one now.

Nothing statement.. obviously a clickbaity title.. but that sentence means nothing.

It could be longer than 20 years.. it could be 2 years.

Any top 5-6 club can make 3-4 good signings and potentially win it in the next 2 season.. wouldnt put it past any of them.

Pretty much the definition of a nothing statement, yes.

It could happen...or not. Just think about that.

Of course, to anyone out there who might be under the impression we're definitely going to win every trophy in sight for years and years - this insight may serve as a reality check. So, on behalf of those people - thanks, Goggs.

CAVEAT: He was asked a question and answered it, etc. Not really his fault that the question was a bit silly.

These things change very quickly.

Liverpool went from competing for 4th spot (and mostly failing) to contenders within 12 months.

Lest people forget, these were Liverpool's finishes over a 9-year period

Fans need to ensure the environment around the club is less toxic.

Disturbingly similar finishes, with ours a little bit better.
So it's re-assuring but worrying at the same time.

Why do people keep saying this?
Is it that single heavy defeat for Liverpool?
Not at all but losing your biggest influence at the back will obviously affect them. Same as Fabinho. Are you watching them against WH?

City doesn't look any where near as clinical as in other seasons.

Lampard and Arteta have obvious weaknesses and Mou is Mou .

It's going to be a very open season.
