So for a while now the tolerant Christian right have been promoting 'Go woke, Go broke'

Despite the fact none of them truly seem to know what woke even means, they are of course being mainly led by Fox News hosts and MtG.

The most recent targets of their venom have been Miller Light and Bud Light for releasing products that have pride colours or messaging on them. Also Disney has been a constant target too. They recently claim to have broken Miller and are now on to Bud.

Where will this end? And do these clowns seriously believe a small section of the USA public can actually make a dent in these worldwide commercial giants? Are they so arrogant to believe that? Or are they just thick enough to not understand these global brands sell worldwide and not just in their own local shops?

I'll say it again: the idea that "cancel culture" is an exclusive property of the so-called left is possibly the most ridiculous notion in modern politics. And that's saying something.

Remember when they said the NFL would suffer after everyone boycotted it due to the Colin Kaepernick stuff?

So far, in practice, "go woke go broke" seems to mean the opposite of what they want it to mean.

It's almost as if the idea of boycotting based on your own views or principles isn't a new thing, and "cancel culture" was just a phrase to distract from the benefits of it

Sure. Ridiculous assumption. Next thing you're trying to tell me the debate around wokeness is the exact same debate that was led around political correctness.

I still don't understand the Mulvaney thing, the "ad" was bad, Mulvaney is a tasteless caricature of the LGBT community and Bud Light is trash. The widespread boycott is also childish especially since we are talking about people that didn't had the taste or common sense to not drink Bud light before that.

A common case of everyone is wrong for different reasons.

Bud light draft sales are down around 23% year over year and have been for almost a couple months now. Case sales are down around 25%. Anheuser Busch is now buying expired cases of beer back from retailers because they can't sell it. Industry experts are saying they've never seen anything like it. Disney stock is down from over $200 probably 18 months to 2 years ago, to around $90 now. They are losing subscribers left right and center and had to fire their CEO and bring in the previous guy out of retirement to try and right the ship. And he is cancelling major projects to make it happen.

These boycotts are actually successful because they are being supported by people on both sides. The right might be more vocal about it, but it's really only a small fraction of the left that actually supports the message being pushed by these companies that produced the backlash in the first place. The tide is turning. These Disney and Bud Light missteps will be a turning point, and we'll be talked about in the future discussions in the education world.

So by using these tactics the giant corporations have caused a huge fuss on social media, with everyone talking about their brands. Almost as though this has worked out exactly as planned.
My favourite was well known reasonable man and thought leader Kid Rock, who showed his opposition to Bud Light by buying several cases of Bud Light, and shooting them.

Sent a big message that resonated with a lot of people. He might have dropped a couple hundred dollars to make a point, but who knows, that might have contributed to an extra 5% of their business being taken away.

Also, all the same rednecks losing their minds over “woke” are the same kind of people who parrot freedom memes and like to bang on about America being the the home of personal liberty.

So long as you’re straight and white, and don’t do anything they don’t like, clearly.

Sales have apparently plummeted drastically, so I don't know if it worked out as planned.

Does having personal liberty not include choosing where to spend your own money?

It also includes being able to live free of threats and intimidation from rednecks because you’re not the same as them.

The same crowd are banning books like there’s no tomorrow in Florida.

mples of how laws in these three states have been interpreted in practice, resulting in a range of books banned. These three states demonstrate how legislation is deepening an environment of censorship, where fear and intimidation leads to an overly cautious response.

State

Description of Policy

Implementation of Policy

Florida

H.B. 1557: The “Parental Rights in Education Act” (a.k.a. the “Don’t Say Gay” law) states that “Classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur in kindergarten through grade 3 or in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards.”

In a motion to dismiss a lawsuit, lawyers representing the State of Florida argued that the HB 1557 does not apply to school libraries, only to classroom instruction.

In practice, numerous school districts have interpreted HB 1557 as mandating that they should remove books with any LGBTQ+ content from classroom and school libraries. Some of the books removed following the legislation’s passage include:

Call Me Max by Kyle Lukoff
I am Jazz by Jessica Herthel and Jazz Jennings
And Tango Makes Three by Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell

Provide a list of books that were banned in Florida.

Don't confuse changes in school curriculum that were implemented by an increasingly popular gov't that was elected by the residents with books actually being banned from purchase in the state, because that isn't happening.

It's not about curriculums. Some books are being removed from school libraries and unless US schools are totally different, books in school libraries don't have to follow the curriculum.

Jesus wept. Clearly we’re all talking about books banned from curriculum. Just as banning ‘Critical Race Theory’ doesn’t mean nobody anywhere ever can talk like that.

But do 7 and 8 year children need books discussing and showing pictures of sexual positions in their library? Some of these books are borderline pornography. A lot of people, (not necessarily you, you seem like a pretty sharp person and I see a lot of your other views) are putting far too much faith in the honesty of the American media.

Have you seen those books and the context of these pictures?

Bud light sales have been dropping for years, that's precisely why they went for this new advertisement campaign, and Disney's stock troubles have nothing to do with the De Santis fight.
