Go woke, go broke.....

The colouring is too ridiculous to even discuss, for me, but I'll engage on the wording. "Never Again" has been connected to a lot of different things. Since this is about the marathon, it's obviously connected to the "I'm never doing that again" that many marathon runners apparently utter at the end of it. But it's also been used for 9/11 in the US, and Pearl Harbour before that. In Norway it refers to the German invasion on April 9th 1940. Before that it probably had some other meaning.

Unless the ad went up literally on Holocaust Rememberance Day or something, I don't see how there's an obvious association with the Holocaust.
It has a fairly obvious association with the holocaust, but also just a genuine wtf were they thinking from Nike marketing types.

I think difference is that Nike is not only saying never again because that is about the holocaust but also that the nike corporation is going to do holocaust 2 next year. It's a direct threat and it rightfully has people worried.
Because that is what anyone is saying.

Nike can have done something dumb without it minimising Israel's scumbaggery.

Woke has fundamentally become an annoying - and slightly meaningless - word. Is it ever used in a way that's useful any more? Seems to only ever be used by gammons to complain. It always seemed a bit too American to me anyway. Never been a fan. I vote for everyone to stop saying it.
It's a major line of attack in the Aussie election at the weekend.
I'm watching Aussie sky sports now and getting barraged with party political broadcasts with one lot running the slogan 'weak, woke and sending us broke'.
The ads are really personal attacks using harshly edited video clips as well.

Is it?

Libs might like it to be but it doesn't seem to be getting any traction. Sky Sport maybe due to it's ownership but hopefully it is just preaching to the converted or pissing off the rest of us who like sport.

I'm basing that off seeing the ad three fecking times while watching the premier league darts from last night on catch up.

@Wibble it's on again!

Dumbest word in recent times. Started with meaning socially aware, moved to meaning socially too aware / easily offended and now it means anything that doesn’t align with the extreme right ideology of hatred, racism, bigotry, fascism and all round cuntishness.

So, in a way, it’s actually positive virtue used by the mentally and morally backward.
The sooner that word dies the better it will be for all of us. As you say it’s morphed into different things from what was once an effort at being a bit more courteous or ‘aware’ to then being easily offended and aggressively policing culture, to now being a term of denigration by some of the most obnoxious people around.

It makes me yearn for the days when ‘hipster’ was seen as the ultimate insult.

australian politics is even more tragic than ours

parties still openly against climate change action, with full on anti-woke/joe rogan brain lunatics at the helm

The Libs and particularly the Nationals (plus the lunatic fringe like One Nation and Trumpet of Patriots) are mad as a bag of squirrels.

yeah, Pauline Hanson (no idea if she's still knocking about today) was basically double the level of hatred and toxicity that anything the brits have to offer

also the day murdoch pops his clogs I'll be raising a toast

edit: she is, and she's doing well

Stop watching the Murdoch press and it goes away :)

I refuse to consume anything he owns.

Let's hope it is the desparate shouting at clouds. We should know by this time tomorrow.
I'm not lining Murdoch's pockets by paying for the subscription, so that"s something.

It's the Singapore election too. Apart one candidate doing a lot of apologising and bowing over a past road rage incident, it's been free from the toxicity of anglo elections.

That is a relief :)

Our election has been better than usual with Temu Trump fecking up daily or simply back-pedalling or just rageing pathetically.

If Labor don't get a majority tomorrow it will be a surprise. But sadly not impossible.

Good luck tomorrow. We get an extra public holiday in lieu cos it's on Saturday, so I'm happy.

I doubt anyone on here (at least) are drawing any equivalency. I'm also sure Nike didn't intend anything, so a simple "woops, sorry" would suffice. But pretending there isn't anything worthy of concern is also a bit silly.
I agree, but the point isn't equivalency is equivalency of media time for what is mistakenly (by Nike i presume) antisemitic and the false and evil notion of a "war in Gaza" when it is a "genocide by the Israeli army in Gaza". Orwellian as it gets.

Each is anti-Semitic (the Gazans are Semites). Now if the Jewish people mean anti Jewish (which is more accurate given how many tribes and so forth are semitic) then they aren't wrong. It's a dumb fecking sign.

But how can the Western media not, and it's unilateral as Chomsky and Herman (and Orwell in is preface to Animal Farm) predict, qua the obedience of standard within state apparati -- how can they not write, in any of the major papers, "genocide in Gaza" after the Pope himself called it that and there have been actual genocide proceedings and findings in the ICJ?

The hypocrisy is fecking disgraceful.

That is an awesome idea. Is voting compulsory like here? Another bloody great idea imo.
It's compulsory here too apparently, but lowly employment passholders not eligible.
