Predict how many goals each player you think will get this season in the league and all competitions (or put a range of 5 goals if it makes it easier). If you think the player will be sold, loaned out or whatever, just write that instead. Put 3 general new signings per areas, just put n/a if we arent going to make them.... decent way to get a rough total and see how many league goals/all competition goals we actually have in our squad.
  • Rashford - 15-20 league, 20-25 all comps
  • Lukaku - sold
  • Greenwood - 7-10 league, 15 all comps
  • Martial - 13-15 league, 18-20 all comps
  • Sanchez - 2 league, 3 all comps
  • Lingard - 7 league, 12 all comps
  • James - 5 league, 6 all comps
  • Mata - 3 league, 6 all comps
  • Gomes - 1 league, 3 all comps
  • Chong - loan
  • Pogba - 12 league, 15-20 all comps
  • Pereira - 1 league, 3 all comps
  • Fred - 1 league, 2 all comps
  • McTominay - 2 league, 3 all comps
  • Matic - 0 league, 0 all comps
  • Garner - loan/youth
  • Shaw - 1 league, 1 all comps
  • Young - 1 league, 3 all comps
  • Smalling - 0 league, 1 all comps
  • Lindelof - 0 league, 1 all comps
  • Bailly - 0 league, 0 all comps
  • Jones - 0 league, 0 all comps
  • Rojo - sold
  • Tuanzebe - 0 league, 1 all comps
  • Wan Bissaka - 1 league, 1 all comps
  • Dalot - 0 league, 2 all comps
  • Darmian - sold
  • New attacking signing - n/a
  • New midfield signing - 1 league, 2 all comps
  • New defensive signing - 2 league, 3 all comps
Total
League - 75 goals
All competitions - 120 goals

Predicting we end up getting Longstaff and Maguire.

Both feel like realistic totals IMO, Europa league makes it a long season, think we'll be an attack minded team and there are plenty of chances/goals in that team. The totals are basically Arsenals league goals total and then slightly more in all competitions from last season, which seems pretty fair. Career years for Rashford and Martial, but both are getting to the point where they're expected to always improve and score more consistently (and will have the squad roles to do so). Greenwood think he'll impress and have a big role in the cups.
Good enough for top 4 IMO, as I think Chelsea will struggle, though itll be between United and Arsenal.

This is my optimistic version. Can take away about 25 percent for a more realistic

  • Rashford - 15-20 league, 20-25 all comps
  • Lukaku - sold
  • Greenwood - 6 league, 10 all comps
  • Martial - 14 league, 19 all comps
  • Sanchez - 7 league, 11 all comps
  • Lingard - 7 league, 11 all comps
  • James - 3 league, all comps
  • Mata - 3 league, 6 all comps
  • Gomes - 2 league, 5 all comps
  • Pogba - 10 league, 13 all comps
  • Pereira - 2 league, 4 all comps
  • Fred - 3 league, 5 all comps
  • McTominay - 2 league, 3 all comps
  • Matic - 0 league, 1 all comps
  • Shaw - 2 league, 2 all comps
  • Young - 0 league, 1 all comps
  • Smalling - 2 league, 3 all comps
  • Lindelof - 1 league, 1 all comps
  • Bailly - 0 league, 1 all comps
  • Jones - 0 league, 1 all comps
  • Tuanzebe - 0 league, 0 all comps
  • Wan Bissaka - 1 league, 2 all comps
  • Dalot - 2 league, 2 all comps

There’s some optimism in those !!!! Rashford 25 !!!! Martial 14 in the PL !!!!

Rashford 15 for the entire season. Martial 10. Mata will weigh in with more than 3 and could touch double figures if he gets enough game time across all the cups.

You’d hope that whoever replaces Lukaku is the man we will be relying on because despite his ineptness to get decisive goals we are losing 20 goals from him and by definition of the fact we are trading him in suggests that OGS has better lined up ie more than the 20 he’d guarantee.

Sorry, just seen Martial 20 !! Wow ! We have fans who think Rashford and Martial will get 45 between them ? It will be genuinely miraculous if they got 30, I think 25 maximum from the pair of them is what we will get.

Martial 14 in the league is not very optimistic. It's realistic if he plays more mins. He scored 10 league goals and played less than 50% mins. Last season he scored 9 league goals and again he played less than 50% mins.

Rashford also scored 13 goals in all competitions last 2 seasons, playing as winger and in few games as CF (Played 53% and 69% of total mins). If he is first choice CF then scoring around 20 goals is also realistic target.

Not a hope in hell of Rashford getting 20. Not a chance. The more games he plays the worse he gets. He’s better being used in five game spells where he might get 3 or 4 in 5 but every time he’s on a hot streak and we stick with him he will let you down big time by going the next 8, 10, 12 games without a goal.

That’s been a pattern of his United career. I know Aguero is a different beast but he doesn’t have barren runs like that. Kane can but what he does in his hot streak is far more than anything Rashford is capable of.

If we are relying on Rashford, Martial and Greenwood for the goals then we are seriously in trouble and I don’t think a top 6 would be attainable with that powder puff strike force.

Not sure why you are comparing Aguero and Kane to Rashford when they have played every min as a #9, leading the line and Rasford played as CF and winger. Only time he got run of games as a #9 was in second half of last season.

Next season is probably the first season where Rashford will lead the line and might be for whole season.

Lingard 7 league goals? You're having a laugh

I expect another sub 60 goal season in the league.

I don't think Pogba will a) be here b) be able to put up last season's numbers. Secondly, we'll struggle to create chances and Rashford isn't that efficient anyway.

Why shouldn’t I be comparing Manchester United's number 9 or potential number 9 to the number 9’s at City or Spurs ?

If they played equal minutes I’d say Giroud would get more. We have the least effective number 9 in the top 6 if Rashford is to be our main striker. Kane, Salah, Aguero, Aubameyang and Giroud will all get more on a like for like basis.

Sounds about right. About 3 own goals and that's 60 league goals.

Because you are comparing a player who played as a winger and using his goal scoring record against players who played as 9.

Once he plays a season as 9, then at least we can compare him with players who plays in same position.

I'd go a tiny bit more. Mid 60s. Martial and Rashford will get 10 a piece, and the rest of the team will tally about 40 between them. If Pogba's still here we'll push for high 60s, maybe hit 70.

Oh come on. Rashford has played centrally enough times to have formed an opinion of him as a centre forward. Take other teams forwards who drift wide, Mane and Sterling for instance. Both way more likely to get goals than Rashford.

Rashford isn’t and never will be an out and out goal getter and I will be astounded if he gets 20 league goals in a season in his entire career.

New defensive signing (Maguire)- 2 league, 4 all comps

No of course we can’t. Where do we replace his 20 + goals from ? Even with Lukaku in the squad we were looking for a big game goal scorer. Now potentially without him we are still hunting that big game striker as well as replenishing his 20 + goals against the cannon fodder.

My maths make that about 30 missing goals unless we replace him.

Sorry, just seen Martial 20 !! Wow ! We have fans who think Rashford and Martial will get 45 between them ? It will be genuinely miraculous if they got 30, I think 25 maximum from the pair of them is what we will get.

Both of these players are going into their 5th season with United, they are now experienced internationals, and in my opinion, if they aren't capable of scoring 20 goals per season, roughly a goal every 3 games, I'd have to ask what their purpose is..?
Time for them both to step up and deliver.

We'll score goals but I reckon we'll be leaky. I have a hunch the fates will conspire to give Greenwood a run at the ST position and he'll make it his own before the end of the season.

So, someone think we can survive without Lukaku or his replacement?
I don't know where people get this idea that we'll replace Lukaku with a starting striker. Lukaku has been a sub since Ole took over. At best we're replacing him with someone to be on the bench. More likely, we replace him with a mixture of Greenwood/Sanchez who will have much bigger roles you'd expect then the 2nd half of last season.

Rashford and Martial both scored 10-15 goals in each of the last few seasons playing in more defensive roles or on the wings and with more sporadic roles compared to now where they are both going to be seen as our 2 main attackers. They need to step up, but even just continuing as is for them would probably see a 5 goal in all competition increase which is close to 15+ league goals and around 20 for both. Not to mention that with Europa league, there's a fair chance we play close to 60 games this season. Loads of games to go around, loads of rotation, and plenty against weaker sides I would guess.

In fact for both totals, I basically just took Arsenal and Chelsea's goal totals from the league and all competitions last season, and ours is basically that, just distributed between our players (and none of those numbers are too unrealistic IMO).

We are utterly fecked this season if we don't buy a goal scorer, much maligned Lukaku was our 2nd top scorer in the league last season with 12 goals, just 1 behind Pogba. As the season turned out, we were already short of goals.

Now, folks are somehow okay with us in not replacing Lukaku in the hope likes of Rashford, Martial etc. will improve their output?

Wishful thinking on both fronts, Rashford (7) and Martial (3) combined for 10 league goals between each other in 21 PL games under Ole last season. That output won't magically go up just because we added Daniel James in attack. They simply do not have enough goals in them and we haven't made enough signings to rectify that. Some of you are in for a rude awakening this season with these predictions.

exactly. the Rashford apologists still out in force it seems. not to mention most goals these days come from out wide anyway, the days of the number 9 scoring all your goals is long gone. Rashford playing wide shouldn't be effecting his goal tallies, he's just not that good at scoring goals. i have a bet with some friends that he won't score more than 15 league goals this season.

From this squad only Lukaku can score 20+ goals in all competitions. Rashford, Martial, Pogba and Alexis will be around 10. Goal more or less.
Others? I don't see who can/will score even five goals. Maybe Mata.

Some of you are in for a rude awakening this season with these predictions.
At ages 19, 20 and 21, Rashford scored 11, 13 and 13 goals in all competitions, even though the majority of the time he played on the wing in a Mourinho system, and a good part of that we were in some form of turmoil, not to mention that because he was young (and inconsistent because of age), he would be in and out of the team often.

Likewise with Martial, at ages 20, 21, 22 and 23, he scored: 17, 8, 11 and 12 goals in all competitions, with only having a truly important role in that first season, and then being a player who was rotated in and out constantly for the other seasons (and was a young player).

Both are coming up to the age (or are there now with Martial) where they need to show more consistency and produce more, but at the same time, it's not unreasonable in the slightest to expect ~5 goals more from each of them over a season where they are the 1st and 2nd choice attacking players, even if they don't step up as players. Simply having a more important, consistent and more attacking role should see them score more then they did in previous years, provided they stay fit. If they step up, they're both players who can get numbers like what Sterling has gotten the last 2 seasons, but without that step up, they should both still get somewhere between what theyve been getting and that Sterling level (or, in terms of numbers, ~15 league goals and around 20 goals in all competitions).

exactly. the Rashford apologists still out in force it seems. not to mention most goals these days come from out wide anyway, the days of the number 9 scoring all your goals is long gone. Rashford playing wide shouldn't be effecting his goal tallies, he's just not that good at scoring goals. i have a bet with some friends that he won't score more than 15 league goals this season.

Yeah those wide players were scoring lot of goals from their young age.

Exactly. These players played around 50% of total mins (Rashford 69%) and still scored decent number of goals. Rashford will play as CF this season and if Martial plays more mins, then it's not unrealistic target to score 5-7 more goals than they did last season.

I'll only do league, and I'll ignore defenders, apart from Dalot who might figure as a winger.
  • Rashford - 12

  • Martial - 9
  • Sanchez - 2

Total: 64

We desperately need a right-winger that can score some goals. And a proper striker if Rashford & Martial doesn't step up big time the first half of the season.

Not gonna predict every individual, but i predict Pogba will be our top goalscorer again in all competitions, partly also he takes all of our penalties as well. Well, unless Bruno Fernandes comes

so it's somehow easy to score goals up front but not out wide as a young player?

It's not exactly easy but it's more logical to think player will score more goals when they are playing closer to the goal. It depends on the set up too and with how Jose set up the team, it wasn't with wide players as goal scoring threat. Zabaleta even felt bad for our wide players.

If you play Kane as a winger, tracking back FBs then I don't think he will be scoring as many goals.

Also young players improving their goal scoring is not unrealistic, that's natural progression. All these wide players who are scoring lot of goals weren't scoring shit loads of goals when they were 21.
