Worst kept secret in football. Best of luck to him, he's been a tremendous servant to the game.

Presumably that’s him retiring?

done a fantastic job there.

the club is in serious trouble though, how many players are out of contract? It’s going to be a mammoth job to keep them up next year.

always like Roy, I like to forget that time he went to the dark side.

Had a feeling it might be Southgate's next gig as an ex player once he's been sacked in disgrace after the Euros but the noise seems to be for Frank

He's going to stop Liverpool getting into the Champions League (again) in his last ever game

Howe & Lampard linked. Could see both taking them down. Zaha & Eze aside they really don’t have the players to be playing good football.

Seems to have been on the cards for while. He's done a more than respectable job there from my perspective, so it may be a tough act to follow-up. Not convinced that Lampard would be the right man to take them forward to be honest. I've yet to be impressed by him as a manager. He's shown to be decent I suppose, but that could easily end up with Palace being relegated, especially with no experience at a team expected to be in the bottom half or mid table at best.

Refreshing to see a manager able to leave the game on his own terms

(i'm assuming that is the case?)

Done a fantastic job stabilising the club through a tough period but it's time. The next appointment is critical and I have a sneaky feeling the board will play it safe and push for Sean Dyche.

The contracts thing doesn't worry me one bit to be honest and is a huge opportunity for the club to rebuild the squad, it's our wage-bill that's held us back from being able to invest in the team and the current team is at the end of its cycle. I am sure we will renew four or five and let those in their 30s that are on big wages (eg Sakho 100k a week, PVA 70k a week etc) go. Then you've got the likes of Hennessey (50k a week) and Wickham (60k a week) contributing absolutely nothing. It really is a huge opportunity to refresh the squad with more Eze-type players.

Looking forward to what's coming next.

Palace potentially relegated next season then? Seen it happen before where a club get tired of having a steady yet boring manager who plays functional football and replace them with a supposedly exciting up and comer or hipster choice and it goes tits up rather quickly.

Hi Shipperly,

I think Dyche would be a good choice, he would give you stability. What players do you think you'll keep? Most of them need to go tbh Dann, Kelly, McArthur, McCarthy etc.

If I had to guess I think we'll offer contracts to Joel Ward, Nat Clyne (depending on the money) and Gary Cahill.

Borderlines for me are Townsend who I'd get rid of but will depend on how much there is to spend, James McCarthy as a squad player and Benteke depending on how much he wants a week. I'd be happy for Benteke to stay on a reasonable salary but not the 100k a week plus he gets now. I think we might also offer Scott Dann 1 more year as a fifth choice centre-back, but we badly need a centre-back or two this summer.

To go are Van Aanholt, Hennessey, Connor Wickham, Mama Sakho and we won't make Batshuayi permanent. I reckon through those alone we're talking £400k a week off the wage bill, that's the wages of 6 Ebere Ezes. The situation sounds drastic from the outside but it really does have to be done.

He will also retire from management: https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...lace-and-retire-as-a-manager-at-end-of-season

""After more than 45 years of coaching I have decided that the time is right for me to step away from the rigours of top-flight Premier League football, so our final two matches will be my last ones as manager of Crystal Palace.

It’s been a particularly rewarding period of my football life and career to have been able to spend these last four seasons with Palace. I feel now that at the end of another successful season, in which we have secured our Premier League status, the moment is right for me to step down from my responsibilities of being a full-time manager.

I have had so much support from my wife and family throughout my career and I have been contemplating this decision for some time, and now I believe the time is right to consider them and to see what the future holds for me.”

Only 4 years at palace? One of those weird feelings where I can’t recall any other manager for them apart from Roy.

Edit: forgot the Pardew dance

I do fear for them for next season. So many players out of contract and a new manager coming in, presumably with a change in style which can go south pretty fast for these kinds of clubs. I like Palace, old fashioned ground with a good atmosphere so it would be a shame.
Could Zaha leave? He is 29 this fall and has spent his best years in mid table or lower. Seems like this could be his last chance to get serious interest from a club with European aspirations.

For a manager, they should give it to Roy's son, Christopher. Long white hair but no credentials other than a striking appearance worthy of any job. Football should reflect real life where managers just give it to their son when they retire.

Palace themselves right before Roy are a good example. Didn’t they bin off Allardyce just after he kept them up because Frank De Boer seemed more attractive? Then they lost their opening 4 games and gave him the boot.

It doesn't always happen like that though does it?

It's worked well for Brighton, Southampton, Leeds and Leicester.

I never understand why fans of the so called big clubs seem to have issue with the lesser clubs trying to better themselves. The faux outrage by big club fans when said lesser teams sack managers is bizzare.

Always worth a watch when a manager takes no shit...

That's amazing. Wish more managers would do that.

Palace are screwed without him next season. Strong chance of relegation, I think.

Looks like it needs to be done. Of those players you offer contracts to, (logically speaking) you would do well to get 50% of them to sign.

how many new players do you need to buy? 6-8 just to have a squad next season.

with a new manager as well.

no one will be able to predict Palace next season, it’s a big ask to integrate so many players and be competitive.

Who somehow now finds himself in the Dutch national team job. :houllier:

His and Koeman's abilities to fail upwards are incredible.

Absolutely not, no. Allardyce kept us up and then "retired" from football...only to take the Everton job a few months later. We were only ever a stepping stone for him to rebuild his reputation after the England shambles before going for a bigger job again, he was never interested in being at Palace long term, we would have gladly kept him. The board effed up with De Boer, no doubt. I hope they've learnt from it.

I think we will probably sign 5 or 6 in total including a couple of loans. Of the players that are on the 'to go' list I'd imagine with the exception of Van Aanholt they've probably made about 20 appearances between them all season. Some of the replacements are already there too; Jack Butland will slot in to Hennessey's role, Mateta came in during the January window who will take Wickham's spot, Tyrick Mitchell has ousted Van Aanholt over the last few weeks. It's not going to be easy but it's really not as bad as the media make out.

that’s good news.

I would like Palace to do well, they are my local team. I’d go and watch them more if they didn’t sell tickets for the bigger matches in bundles (although I clearly understand why they do it).

He's been a good manager for Palace and seemed like a nice bloke. Wish him well.

I hope Palace sign a decent manager - want them to do well, they've had some decent players and then there was that excellent cheerleader video.

That wage bill is ridiculous in comparison to the quality of those players, the only ones I’d keep are the ones in bold, Batshuayi is he even still alive? I haven’t seen him play for the longest time. Benteke has found his scoring boots again so I would keep him until you can find a proper replacement.

Was thinking the same thing. Feels like he's been there for 10 years.
