Importance of the January 2020 Transfer Window

Wilson maybe, but there isn't a chance Zaha will come back to Manchester.

Course he would, he's been looking for a big move for years now. I know we're a bit shit at the minute but let's not pretend that it's not an irresistible opportunity for many players and not just because we pay stupid wages.

We could do a lot worse than Wilson...

But it'd take some daft fee for them to let him go!

We will get Mandzukic or Ibra in January at best. Noone is coming here the state we are in, especially with a chance they could be coming to a club with a new manager. Anyone still thinking sancho, et al, or any of these top players would join us in the summer are living in a RAWK-esque delusional fantasy land. Zaha would cost us >£80m and I doubt we would concvince him to come.

I don’t know. Real had some sorry campaigns and players still came. Last I checked we had the largest fan base in the world. Playing for that audience won’t motivate every player, but we’ll still get top players to come if they believe in the vision. Now all we need is a vision that lasts more than two seasons...

Zaha is a different case as he's been at United before and it didn't go well.

I was basing my opinion on what he has said about his experiences in Manchester the first time around. He said that he went through hell in Manchester and feels the club didn't support him enough. I doubt he'd want to come back.

We're weakest in his two best positions on the pitch, he is guaranteed playing time here more so than anywhere else. It's a chance to prove we were wrong to sell him previously or that he didn't get a fair chance.
His importance to palace makes him expensive but so does his sell on clause that we own. Meaning we would be better value to us than anyone else.
He is so desperate for a move that he was pushing for Everton a few months ago because no other big clubs want him. Call me optimistic but I believe we will be back amongst the top teams again soon and I think everyone knows it. That's why they are enjoying our demise because they know it's temporary. Zaha would join us on the presumption that we would be playing in Europe again soon and I know we're woefully shit at the minute but I don't think that's too far fetched.

Partey and Ziyech, for around a combined £100 million, would transform this side. Team that with a short term striker option such as Ibra loan or Mandzukic

:lol::lol:

Realistically he doesn't have lot of options. Arsenal have Pepe now. If we go in, he will come.

50-60m would be a good business.

The club should have a long term plan for the club regardless of who the manager is. Ole's plan isn't difficult to execute he wanted a young team that can play a high press counter attacking system with a core of British players. This could be achieved with the below managers.

Poch
Tuchel
Naglesmann
Exactly, this narrative that Ole is our only savior is kind of funny. There are lot of managers who can do much better jobs than Ole with the same vision.
Rodgers, Potter, Howie are all very good.
Rose, Hassenhuttl, Wenger are also interesting options.

It will be interesting to see if Ole and the club throw out all thier values in desperation and sign someone like Bale on 500,000 a week. I hope not. I'd rather finish 12 unless it's a 6 month loan.

I can really see us buying Gareth Bale, which will be totally against the supposed 'new approach' we are taking.

It's really going to depend on how many points we have on the board, but if there are players available that fit the criteria the club should just be willing to pay over the odds, or they can kiss any chance of trophies or European competition goodbye for next season. We need creativity and goals badly.

We should have a plan, yes. But we don’t, not beyond whoever the current manager is. Plans don’t exist in the ether, an individual needs to own them.

Also probably none of those managers will want to come to us because we’re so horribly run and it would be detrimental to their careers to try to operate under such a restrictive ownership.

How many players want to move 6 months before the Euros as well?

Someone might see it as a chance to earn an international place, but that limits the options even further.

Just trying to imagine how appalling we'll be in the summer with the euros on!

We would sign him, & he would probably join the sick list the next day. Another overpaid mercenary. What could go wrong?

He’s also talked up his time working with Ole so it may balance out if Ole was still there.

I don’t understand how the club have failed so long to do this.

It’s widely accepted we need wholesale changes, identify who those players are & get as many as you can, when you can.
If I had to guess, which I must, I'd say it's because it's in no one's job description. No one will do this unless they're paid to.

Liverpool signed VVD in January didn’t they? The state of the team is so dire that there should be no excuses for not buying in January. We will overpay regardless, we might as well not waste half a season. The problem is we are absolutely horrendous in the transfer market.

Oh yea desperate club looking strong in January, what can go wrong.

If we want a long term signing in January you have to target players who are looking for a move to a bigger club and are out of Europe.

Havertz from Leverkusen as they are likely to go out of the Champions League and may miss out on 3rd as well so not in Europa.

Chiesa from Fiorentina. Not in any European competition.

Zaha from Palace (we get 15-20% of the fee back anyway)

Callum Wilson - the wages we can offer mean he could push for the move.

Erling Harland - Red Bull may drop into Europa so this may not be a starter until next summer.

Dani Olmo - looking for a step up from the Croatian league you would think.

Mikel Oyazarbal - release clause in is real at Real Sociedad.

Marc Roca - €40m release clause

Longstaff - Newcastle May consider the money worth it to allow it to be spent around the squad. Although I’d be building around three brothers if it was me.

Bruno Fernandes - sporting seemingly set their price

These are possibly our best bet and may command a premium but that’s where we are.

No and No.
Agree with the others, except Rose, don't know who he is.

You should work as a Man UTd scout, can't do any worse than our current lot

January is vital. It was obvious that we were incredibly light in midfield. We are paying the price.

I'm not sure Ole will survive to see this window, but we will have some sort of manager in place for this window. I think it's crystal clear now that apart from a few players, we're short of quality. We can't even say we have a quality first 11.

Considering our troubles at the moment, do you expect to see investment in January?

If so which positions? And possible candidates?

I personally am not sure we can recruit anyone in Jan of a decent enough quality.
Simply not true. The first 11 has the ability to cause damage if given a few games to gel. Problem is they haven’t been able to since March. Behind that 11, there is nothing but has beens and a few talents. There is a urgent need of leaders. Players in the team who are committed to the club needs to stand up. On and of the field! A couple signings will help, and probably paper over the cracks. I don’t think the players needed are available. At the moments there is a very heavy media pressure on the club. The plastics have lost faith, and when the real fans. Match going locals eventually loose faith he is gone. And the circle start again..

And proper coaching that doesn't obliterate all their muscles . We are definitely playing way below our caliber at the moment . True there is a lack of leadership , but I'm pretty sure we aren't a bottom half team even with this lot. If we had a system in place and proper coach to motivate , this team with the addition of a creative midfielder could easily be in and around the top 6 at least.

Will be a quiet window. I don't expect us to do much business unless we're properly mired in a relegation scrap.

Loony idea. He's injured 50% of the time. Most our best players are injured now too.

CM and ST have to be the minimum for the January window. If there could be a deal done for Zlatan, that would seem to make sense. Allowing some time to get someone lined up long term to come in during the summer window.

CM I have no idea. Would seem strange to go back for Bruno Fernandez when he seemed to be available and for whatever reason he wasn't deemed good enough by someone at the club. Unless it was a case of 'not being in the budget'.

If this £100m budget story is true, hopefully the start of this season has been a wake up call to the board and owners. Thin on quality in the starting XI, let alone if a few players get injured.

History has proved you wrong! I liked Mourinho, and i still do! And I have done my research on Ole. I suggest you and all the reactionary posters do the same! The first team IS capable. Second string is mid table, at best. What they are doing now is championship standards. Just like Ole supposedly told them. This is where the club is at! And no new manager is going to change that! It will be the same all over. Mourinho didn’t exactly do the club any favors having them players overachieve into second, did he?

Hold up, not every post is a swipe or sarcasm.
I was essentially agreeing with what you said and elaborating on what it might take to turn this around so that they can do what they are CAPABLE of . But I guess you are not interested in reading before replying.

As it is my third sleepless night after Newcastle debacle, I thought long and hard who should we sign in January. And I think now we need experience more than anything in our team. We should go all out for Eriksen in January, along with getting Toni Kroos in a swap deal for Pogba, as Pobga seems like he doesn't want to play for United anymore. If Pogba stays, we need to bring in either one of McGinn or Longstaff . Also go for Mandzukic with keeping tabs on a young dynamic striker like Håland in the summers.
