Is our British scout network good enough?

I read a story about Ramsey only choosing Arsenal over Utd because part of our offer included loaning him back to Cardiff for the remainder of the season, when he wanted to train with his (new) teammates. How true that is I have no idea.

Adam Johnson was given a tour around OT by Fergie and Gill but came back and said he did not want to leave Middlesborough due to his mums health. United made a bid for Bale but Spurs offered more. Ramsay chose Arsenal over United. Wilshere was an Arsenal lad from young and unlikely to move to United since he was already at a top club.
United have a very good scouting network in the UK, but as has been mentioned previously the 90 min rule makes a big difference. There are also limited places so they try to get the best players for the positions they need. They cannot just stockpile players just to stop other clubs getting them. Overall they have a pretty good youth system judging by the number that have made the first team and playing at other clubs in the leagues.

This is why we no longer buy stars. Kids like ramsey and bale went elsewhere a
s they felt their route to first team football would be blocked by estabished stars. Hence change in transfer strategy.

Our transfer policy changed because of market forces(City and Chelsea being able to bid us under the table for any player) and Glazer's business plan, not because Bale and Ramsey turned us down.

We never really bought "stars" anyway.

If Ramsey had joined us, he could well have been a regular starter for us by now and was the very definition of a "value" signing. Highly doubt the club has changed policy on the basis of a couple of rejections.
