I normally don't watch a lot of non-United matches. But I'll probably watch a couple of PSG and City games for entertainment. Especially in the CL. They have absolutely stacked squads.

Geez, I actually liked Grealish and wanted us to sign him until I started reading his thread on here and the hype surrounding him during the euros, ffs. Ridiculous. Comparisons to Beckham , not to mention Ronaldinho (though that was like 1 poster or summin), "best player in the EPL" etc.

It's cringeworthy, I agree.

They need to let Grealish do the talking on the pitch. As a pure entertainer on the pitch, he's ahead of Beckham.
.. by Grealish’s age Beckham had won the treble, the double, Young Player of the Year, UEFA Club footballer of the year, runner up in the Ballon D’or, runner up in FIFA World Player of the Year - twice! top assist provider in the Premier League 3 times, PFA PL team of the year 4 times, and was already fecking England captain….Have a fecking word with yourself.

“Entertainer on the pitch” is a pretty nebulous term, but you’re essentially saying he’s more entertaining than current De Bruyne, and then some?…. Not to mention the guy who’d created more goals than anyone for 3 years and scored almost twice as many at the same age - including from the half way line! (Beckham had 58 goals in 299 games by the time he turned 26… Grealish has 37 in 253)

So, more goals, more assists and more individual acclaim, but Grealish did do that flick in an England friendly, so….it’s a toss up really.

Is that all? Jack was once named in the Championship team of the year you know.

And English fans chanted his name when he was on the bench. Not sure if that counts as a trophy or achievement.
It’s so bizarre with Grealish, he’s clearly a class footballer but I don’t remember any other footballer with such a ”meh” resume at his age being elevated to the levels of this lad. ”Best in the league”, Beckham/Ronaldinho comparisons, generational talent etc.
Let him actually achieve something over the coming seasons and then asses how great he is.

The media keeps gushing over him because it's City. If we signed him instead there wouldn't be half as much of this. Oil clubs...

every girl I know is in love with him. I’m sure many will watch city now he has a shirt on.. and that’s what city bought him for. He has that appeal.
I mean, he’s no beckham. That’s the only point I was making. Imagine him with the Mohawk - not pulling it off like becks did.

Yeah, I rate him and he was arguably best (or top 3) players before his injury last season but that was just 3-4 months, he wasnt that good after his return from injury. He is very good player but if someone who was in coma for few years read this thread, they would think City signed Ronaldinho II.

Also I feel few are trying too much to stand out, like a competition who will post weirder posts. Like that guy who worship Poch and playing that character for last 7 years.

No, you were being patronising and you are fully aware of that. You now have the honour of being only the second person to go on my ignore list.
Well if you’re such a delicate little flower that you can’t suffer someone pointing our the gaping hole in your opinion (the very stuff of forum’s) then maybe you should just stay off the forum, for the sake of your fragile disposition, and have a pity party by yourself.

Its because he's always played for Villa. Outside of Birmingham nobody has any reason to hate him or develop an agenda. Now they do, so this time next season he'll either have fulfilled the hype or - more likely - be called an overrated player that City overpaid for.

He's right but there is absolutely no reason for Grealish to come out and say this, to be honest.

Never have I seen such a hype about a player who did so little in his career, PR at its finest.

Grealish's one stand out attribute is holding on to the ball until he gets fouled. Literally. That's not "entertaining" and it's not all that beneficial for big teams either.

I was watching the Sky Sports Fan Debate yesterday and Neville, Keane and to a lesser degree Carragher, all seem to think incredibly highly of Grealish. Neville compared his current situation to Zidane when he moved from Bordeaux to Juve under the tutorship of Lippi.

He did emphasise he wasn't comparing them as players directly but when Zidane moved he had no real defined position, questions were being asked if he could perform at the highest level and about his mentality etc.

Obviously we know what happened with Zidane and how he developed. Let's hope it's not the same here. A player I've always wanted at United but at the money City have put in to this (£100m fee and £369k a week wages) it just wasn't do-able or worth it based on the team we currently have.

We still have to operate on a budget and we are trying to balance our wage structure. Spending that amount would have left us very short elsewhere and Sancho and Varane for similar money by far suits what we need currently.

Ideally we could have held this another year and used him to replace Pogba but things don't always play out as you'd hope.

I agree with alot of your posts on this forum but I have to disagree here. We have spent an absolute fortune over the past decade be it salary or transfer fees. I'd love to say that their spending has been outrageous compared to ours but in reality we have spent a ridiculous amount of money and haven't much to show for it whereas they do.

I don't mind that they signed Grealish. I cant blame a brummy lad going there. Playing under guardiola, for a team that were close to a treble and for money that is very good but nothing we can't pay (sanchez, de gea, Pogba, Sancho etc)

Regarding him as a player I don't actually rate Grealish as much as others - in that I think he will not stand out in that city team like he did at Villa.

I'm not arsed and infact I think Sancho is much more unique. Its rare to find a right footed right sided winger that doesn't rely on sheer pace.

Ultimately though. We couldve signed either of them and it wouldn't excuse the fact our wage bill is a disgrace and has been for a while.

People comparing him to Beckham deserve to get their heads slapped. Beckham was dating Spice Girls member in his 20's. Grealish? I dont know, eating Spicy Kebabs more like.

I don't see the Beckham comparison, either. David Beckham was an international icon and was probably the most popular footballer on the planet. He was frequently featured in non-football magazines. Grealish hasn't and won't transcend football in a way that Beckham did.

Beckham is/was a beautiful man, it's an awful comparison.
That’s what city are trying to create though, they are already marketing him like the second coming of beckham and like it or not grealish is very very handsome. Women love him. He will sell them shirts.

Let's be perfectly clear: Beckham was, and still is, a force of nature, a movement. Pitch performance aside, there is no way anyone can look at grealish and think he is anywhere as good looking as Beckham. It's not close.

Absolutely. This entire thing wreaks of shameless commercialism.

The football fan is changing, a significant number of fans have a tendency to follow players rather than clubs. This is all a blatant attempt to capitalise on that. City unsurprisingly taking plastic to a new level.

Grealish isn’t near the level of superstardom Beckham had.

No-one is even remotely close. Rashfords much bigger in the public eye due to his political involvement.

Turns out City or Amazon, whoever cropped the full quote did Grealish a bit dirty here.

What he actually said was something along the lines of everything went through him, and he would be double, or sometimes triple marked, but at City (no disrespect to Villa) they have more dangerous weapons, so they wouldn't be able to just double mark Grealish. Or something to the effect. He was trying to say he'll get more space and freedom to operate at City.

Still not a great thing to say to be honest, but that's less scathing and disrespectful than the cropped quote.

I spent my childhood in a remote corner of India, a small underdeveloped town in the North East. And back in the early 2000s, kids and teenagers were copying Beckham's hairstyles everywhere. He was a household name. Doubt anyone has heard Grealish's name outside of the footballing community.

The cafe seems to develop weird obsessions sometimes with players who play at non top clubs in the league.

See previously Rodwell too as another example.
