What are you on about? Before Welbeck we hadn't produced a first team quality striker sinc Hughes in the 80s!
Very true, but we're starting to not do too badly. It seems that we went through a really turbulent patch with the youngsters but ever since Rene come into the fold, they're finally starting to come good.

Wilson is such a natural finisher, the u21s can really do with him and I hope he gets promoted to that level next season.

After this tournament he lays with the U18's I would mind seeing him starting up front for the U21 side in the back end of the season, seems to have great goal scoring ability and think that side could use him with Henriquez and Macheda both out on loan.
I am hoping Will Keane gets back fit towards the back end of the season and gets some game time.

Wilson has just turned 17 in december so unlikely we will see him in the U21's right now. Cofie is back too, maybe.

I'm not speaking purely on those we have produced. I mean our signings too. RvP for example. Our strikers on every level seem to be stand out. IMO anyway.

He's very good.

Should get a carling cup outing IMO.

His raw talent as a package is very promising indeed.

I'd imagine the Carling Cup outings are reserved for Welbeck/Hernandez and at a push Will Keane making his return. As for Wilson, he's still only young but he's got pace to burn, understands his role as a striker, is a good powerful dribbler and a great finisher. He's got the lot as a lead the line-type of striker.

Wilson doesn't get talked about enough in here. I may be biased because I haven't seen as much of Will Keane as I have of Wilson but I really do like Wilson and think he is the better prospect of the 2.

I disagree. Will Keane three or so years ago was spectacular. Might be his injury troubles have done him over but I think the sheer intelligence in Keane's game at least made him stand out even more than Wilson at that level.

Either way it's impossible to know how things pan out with these youth players. As Keane himself can testify one injury might curtail a season's worth of development, which is hard to earn back.

Like I say, I haven't seen as much of Keane so I'm more biased but Wilson has so much to his game and from what I've read, he's always played 2 years above his age group and I think he's such a talent.

Yeah he's sensational I'll give you that.

Interesting to watch him in his inevitable reserves outings this season.

For me Wilson is the second most likely to make it here after Januzaj.

Will Keane is an excellent prospect but Wilson has impressed me more.

I think Lingard will have something to say about that. But I'm on the fence, for me it's between Wilson, Pearson and Pereira. If none of those 3 make it I'll be really shocked and if they keep progressing I could see all 3 making it here.

Not sure he's physically ready for that. He's still a bit frail and as late as last season he kept getting short-term injuries due to knocks. He added a bit of weight over the summer but it's probably wise not to unwrap the cotton wool just yet.

Keane is still the better footballer, Wilson is great when there is space to run into and has definitely kicked on this season, but has areas to improve and I'm unsure how effective he is when teams defend the edge of the box. He doesn't quite have the subtlety of Keane, who is creative and better with his back to goal.

Strikers are tricky to predict though. I was convinced that John Cofie had it all ;)

Will Keane is a much better all-round striker than Wilson - but Wilson has a pace that is frightening. But for me Pearson is an even better bet simply because at the moment his way to the first-team looks a lot easier than for a striker.

Wilson isn't as rounded as Will Keane was at the same age but he's much more than a speed merchant who can finish. His passing game is quality and he's got the vision to match.

The pace and ability to beat a player means he's probably got an easier route into the first team (if he continues to improve and work at his game) as he would be able to play wide also.

Obviously he's and I'm not disputing that mate.

I wanted to say that Wilson at this age is a bigger prospect than Keane at 17(I worded the previous post badly).

I still really prefer Wilson but hopefully this year I'll get to see more of Keane to know more about him and maybe I'll change my mind. I'd love to see them both line up for the u21s at some point this season to see how well they play together.

It's always hard to judge, you are always wary of overrating kids who are physically dominant or rely too much on their pace as when they start moving up the age groups those attributes are not necessarily sufficient (see Tunnicliffe, King, Cofie etc).

I think Wilson has been adding to his game and he is more exciting to watch then Keane when he has the ball at his feet running at the defenders. I remember Blackmore saying that he had more to his game and the type of goals he could score then he'd shown last season and with the added responsibility of captaincy he's become the team leader, upped his workrate and scored the crucial goals. It's great really that we have 2 potential first team homegrown strikers, as until Welbeck it's been a while since we've produced a top striker.

Nearly as bad as my insistence Ritchie Jones was going to be fantastic and he ended up playing for my home town :D

Ritchie Jones did indeed look a great talent and played for England at every youth level. Hard to imagine him playing non-league football at 26. I thought he looked at least a Championship player.

Anyone who hasn't played any significant reserve team football it is nearly impossible to say.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him make the bench for the cup game

I'd be very susprised if he did. The likes of Zaha can barely get a place on the bench atm and it'd be too soon for him really.

If he carries on the way he's going I reckon next year he might be given similar opportunities to Janujaz this season.

I like how he can often beat a player without even using the ball. He just shifts his body shape as he's running and leaves them for dead.

I also think Moyes will name quite a strong side in the cup rather than playing the kids. So many first team players like Chicharito, Nani, Zaha, Giggs, Januzaj, Anderson, Cleverley, Evans, Büttner etc are all in with a shout. I think Moyes will take any chance of getting a trophy very seriously this season so that might mean fewer chances for the youngsters in the cups. It's a shame we didn't draw lower league opposition. I'd love to see him on the bench though, and he has to have caught Moyes' eye if he's training with the first team already.

I had no idea about that. Fair play to the kid.

As impressive as he has been. I can't see how he would be involved against Liverpool. I know in the past, some players have been involved in the warm up to get a taste of the atmosphere and build up, that's the most he could expect. He won't feature, so I don't think there is any real need to put him on the bench and take away from another players potential game time.

Still plenty of time for him and I think this UEFA Youth League will be a really good test to see how good he really is at this stage in his career in regards to players around Europe.

Wow, a couple of real beauties in there! The 2nd and 5th goals were stunning, and the 4th wasn't too shabby either! Fantastic control on those surging runs, and to put such a classy finish on the ends...I'm very impressed.

As they mentioned, he's also captaining the U18s, which is another great sign.

Looks like a powerful, speedy forward with very good finishing ability.Reminds me of Joe Red Rossi, with more upper body strength and more direct. Only problem being he celebrates like Shearer with the one handed wave celebration

Reminds me of so many former strikers. Really has the making of a United number 9. A long, long time to go though.
