Was thinking back to the Treble season earlier, and how excited I was when we signed Blomqvist.

I remembering him having a stormer against us for IFK Gothenberg in '95 (he scored twice iirc).

I've heard some people say he was a bad signing, but to be fair, when he came in, he did pretty well for us.

I really think if it wasn't for his injuries he would have really kicked on and been even better, providing healthy competition for Giggs as well.

So caftards, Jesper Blomqvist, Fergie flop or not?

Not. He did a decent job, nothing special, but I didn't expect very much from him in the first place.

He had a very good work rate and when I look back, he reminds me a lot of Ji Sung Park as a player.

Bit part player really but did a job when needed. Part of the treble squad so deserves recognition for that. Not a bad player to watch either and always seemed happy playing for United.

To be honest i'd never watched him before he played for United so it's hard to say if he lived up what people expected.

Not, handy winger who backed up Giggs well. Shame he got bad injuries could have been something even better

always remember his long sleeves, nothing special as a player but good cover for Giggs

We need a scandi in our side right now. They've always been solid for us.

Isn't there a single decent scandi anywhere?

I dont remember much of him to be honest, was shithot when he first broke through for Gothenburg but lost a lot of pace after injuries. By the time he arrived at OT, he was a shadow of his former self.
Didnt give the ball away much but I rarely remember him scoring or even set anything up which is a bit crap for a winger. However, he did play quite a few matches in our treble season so I guess he cant have been that bad!

I remember meeting him just after United released him and he was gutted - think he ended up at Everton

He was decent backup for Giggs, could have been even better if not for those damn injuries.

Didn´t he stay at United for 2 seasons after the treble season but didn´t play a single game because of injuries?

He was too lightweight... easily knocked off the ball and more often than not over.

Not, he's really the only good left-footed winger to backup Giggs over the recent years.

He added pace to the team and covered Giggsie adequately. If he was in the current team he would probably play ahead of Nani and Park

Not, but equally I remember that game against IFK, and he never reproduced that kind of performance again. Sadly injuries and a poor time in Italy marred his career, but he was good cover for Giggs and did a job.

But god he was good against us for IFK

So caftards, Jesper Blomqvist, Fergie flop or not?

Difinetly not. He put on one or two cracking performances in the treble season and overall he was a good player to have and did his job in the squad, nothing more.

He ended up playing in the same indoor football league as me (ok, division 1 out 23 divisions, but still not that great a standard). I missed the games against him as i tore ligaments in my ankle - wanted to give him one from Keane for that pass in Turin.
Anyway, he was manager of Enköping who were relegated this year from Allsvenskan, and on the day of relegation he was on the "lets dance ice-skating show". Could you imagine an english manager doing the same? He's now a big hit on that show that's prime-time sat night viewing. He's quite good at the ice-skating actually, even did a little jump a couple of weeks ago.

We had to sign him as he was better than Pele to be fair.

He was a good player and certainly not a flop. He never let us down and did put in some decent performances.

I shall always remember him for his suicide pass to Roy Keane in the semi final against Juve that cost Keano his place in the final. That one small contribution could have cost us the treble.

He has actually come out of retirement this year and is playing again. I think he initially retired in 2005/2006.

He's still playing as a player-coach back here in Sweden. He used to be a pundit on tv as well but i could never take him seriously because he was lisping all the time.

Definitely not a flop

Our success in the treble season was due in large part, like last season, to the quality of our squad players

If he were around right now, he'd be receiving the O'Shea treatment. Not because he was a bad player, but because he wasn't an exceptional one.

Did a good job in 98/99 for us, although was a disappointment in the long term due to injuries. We would've been pretty screwed without him in the final. I assume it would've been Phil Neville in midfield otherwise and, at the time at least, he just wasn't good enough in the middle.

Not a flop, but far from anything special.

Never lived up to expectation and we would still have won the treble without him.Far too many injuries I suppose

At his prime he was a really good player - even internationally. Good enough for any topclub. Playing in that United side would make pretty much any player look average. On top of that he's always had too many injuries to be able to maintain any kind of form.

He is a good player and did a job for us for a season. I preferred him over Quinton Fortune in all honesty.

He was sensational against us for Gothenberg but I think the the fact that he was around even greater players at United made him feel overshadowed. He fits into my argument against Ashley Young being a hit at a top four club.

He wasn't great for us, but he was good - and he gave us that ballance that always seemed to be missing in previou seasons when Giggs was out. Just having a good, real left winger made a difference that season.

We needed someone like him at the time because Giggs' injuries were becoming an annual thing, he did a decent job and played his part in the Treble, not a flop.

His tackle at Anfield by the way was amazing, shame that prat Ellery gave a penalty instead!

He was no Ralph Milne that is for sure....

Better then Poborsky in my opinion
