Joe Rogan

You don't need to be left wing to not promote anti intellectualism, which is exactly what he is doing by speaking against approved vaccines and announcing he is taking a fecking neurotoxin originally meant for livestock as a "treatment ".

He also has a healthy streak of idiocy in him. Maybe Rhonda Patrick recommended the ivermectin, despite the fact that the FDA literally published an article as to why it not be used to treat COVID.

Small government, deregulation, no welfare state, easy access to guns etc. Most of the libertarian ideals are fairly well aligned with the conservative right. They probably only disagree on drugs, which would be a red line for a terminal pot-head like Rogan.

I think they diverge quite a lot on social issues, most importantly, religion. Libertarians have very little inclination to fight the culture wars of the conservatives.

It’s so dangerous when someone like this that has a huge following just comes out and says he’s pumped every drug under the sun into his body to get rid of Covid. After saying your immune system should be strong enough to defeat it alone no less.

A cocktail of drugs including a horse dewormer when he could have, you know, just got a vaccine? Absolute cnut

If he is libertarian why did he endorse Bernie Sanders then

He leans libertarian in several areas. He also leans anti-establishment in others, which would explain Gabbard, Sanders, and others coming on his show. I don't think he cares about politics unless he views a particular politician as a threat to his various hobbies (Hunting, Drugs, MMA, meat consumption etc).

Beyond that, he's all over the map really.

What I don't understand is that he seems to be all for the idea of a welfare state(hence his supposed support for Bernie), but then he also seems to hate the idea of a bigger government and more taxes, which doesn't make any sense.

The problem with Joe Rogan is that he agrees with most of his guests when they are present. It's impossible to know exactly what he thinks, but I think the evidence suggests that he's a libertarian with a soft spot for some leftist ideas.

Rhonda is a bit of a hack but the Rogan audience wants to believe so badly.
A Redditor called her basically an expert after her last appearance, it’s a curious phrase

She's generally a for profit opportunist who has used her Rogan appearances to get famous. She does have some good information and tips on her YouTube (such as her micro-nutrient smoothy recipe). Beyond that, she's basically just a self-promoter and wannabe influencer.

Agreed. Although I would add he's a libertarian with a soft spot for some left and some right ideas (for instance railing against political correctness, wokeism etc).

Not everyone at the end of the day falls neatly on a spot on the political spectrum.

He’s a centrist. It’s pretty clear simply by listening to him. He checks right & left wingers alike. Although the caf is extremely left by the looks of it so perhaps he’s “not left enough”

He’s definitely not a republican. He favoured Bernie Sanders over Trump & Biden.
The only world he is a centrist in is American politics.
AOC is a centrist.

May I just say that I don't dislike him for being left or right, or not enough of one of them. It's his vagueness masquerading as deep thought, his inability to remain consistent on anything, that annoys me. But he's not on the same level or anywhere near other right wing media personalities I've heard over the years. He'd be harmless if we weren't in a pandemic or if there weren't so many listening to him. But I do know people my age that listen to him religiously and aren't vaccinated (this is on them, but it's not exactly a coincidence).

Is he actually unvaccinated? I thought he got covid despite the vaccine.
I dont think he has a political alignment. At least not one thats going to change on a whim. I dont think i've ever liked him much, any podcast that hes doing most of the talking im going to get bored and stop listening pretty quickly. Its a good format for his guests though

Republicans have pretended for a while that they're the party for a smaller state. They're not, they want to spend just as much money as the Democrats, they just want to spend it on other things and they don't want to pay for it. So they cut welfare, cut taxes and increases the deficit.

Rogan is closer to a Democrat, probably, regarding what he wants to spend it on. But he really, really doesn't want to pay for it. Supporting Bernie is perfect, because Bernie wants a lot of the things Rogan would want if they were free, and Bernie won't ever win so there's no risk.

When it comes to Trump vs Biden, or an R senator vs a D senator, or a governor or whatever, then things might actually happen and he can't fantasize anymore. So he'll openly cheer for Trump and say Texas won't be Texas anymore if run by a Democrat (while living in Austin, the fecking moran), and people will still be shocked and outraged when he's called right wing.

The only world that matters here is American politics since that's where he's based and where most of his audience live.
Really? He's quite popular all over from what I've gathered, but I'll believe you for sure.

The only world he is a centrist in is American politics.
AOC is a centrist.

AOC would be voting for SV or Rødt in Norway, so she's realistically not a centrist. But yeah, Joe Rogan is definitely not a centrist, though American politics is so fecked up that he might actually be one there. Donald Trump was just President for feck's sake, the American right has moved even further right.

I believe she talks left but there is lacking action. She'd be voting Arbeiderpartiet. :p

We have to cut her some slack, she is after all part of American politics, so it's hard to expect the world from her. Put her in a Norwegian context and she'd be well on the left I think. But there are definitely a lot of Democrats would be Høyre or further right. Probably the vast majority.

Agreed. He also has a habit of not challenging guests he agrees with and interrogating those he disagrees with - all the while attempting to make it look like he's impartial.

she's a fake friend and a clout chaser

I'm growing increasingly skeptical about her too. She just seems very ineffective. Impossible to judge from this vantage point though.
She's 30. That's like saying, maybe Greta could have done more to prevent the heat waves this year.

Should someone like Rogan who is a public figure with a lot of people who follow his every word be held accountable for his listeners dying over shit like this?
If his listeners take the medical opinion of a stand up comedian seriously then that’s their problem. More fool them I say.

All this talk of centrism reminded me of this classic.

He's really good at podcasting. Latest is he no longer got covid
