He's utter scum. If he didn't become a footballer, I'm guessing he would be behind bars, for one reason or another.

Being a footballer didn't even stop him from having a stint behind bars, and the fact he'll quite shamelessly describe the vile crime his brother committed as "a scrap" makes me think you're right in assuming he'd be locked up for something quite serious himself had he not been picked up as a footballer.

He's picked an easy target to rile up the Neanderthals like him, whilst not pushing it by touching subjects he's even more likely to get burned for.
Like some of the male pundits and commentators are any better. Players who never achieved anything and have never coached or managed a club but speak as if there opinion matters. Some of the female pundits are a lot more knowledgeable, articulate and factually correct than a lot of the male ones. Gender doesn’t make you a good or bad pundit.

Yes, I agree. There shouldnt be inarticulate male ex players in these roles - and there are. Too many. Sturridge the worst of all. But there have been about 4500 premier league players. I just believe that out of the more articulate and insightful ones that do exist, plenty of them probably also harbour ambitions of post playing career punditry, and certainly enough to occupy the main punditry positions. I think if barton was a smarter person he'd be able to arrive at a more nuanced opinion.
People need to try again: There can be terrible male pundits on television (many of them get brutal stick), but their presence doesn't qualify female pundits for their spots. Two things can be true at once. All it means is that across the board, the best people are almost certainly not being chosen.
I don't doubt that given his posts he is more sexist than he thinks, but i stand by my assertion that the sentiment that there are too many female pundits on the men's game, is true and I don't find it remotely credible that they are the most qualified, articulate and 'authoritative' voices that were chosen from the possible candidates.

Let’s not forget he went to Rangers saying the SPL would be too easy for him. He came back after being dominated by Scott Brown in a 5-1 defeat to Celtic and never played for Rangers again. He lasted 5 games and was kicked all over the park in every game 
Why are people even listening to him? I’ve been more interested in the reaction to his words than what he actually said himself. It’d be a problem if someone actually notable in football said it, but Barton is just a thug who got lucky in drawing the longest straw. Surely he should get the same treatment as if Big Steve commented it on Instagram?

For me it's ok to prefer men to do some things and women to do others. By today's standards it's probably been seen as sexist. For example I'd rather go watch a match with my male friends and I'd rather go karaoke with my girl friends. That's just because of their interests and I know how they'll enjoy it.
Hosting: I have zero preference who hosts a football show. Nowadays, I think Laura Woods is as good as anyone.
Punditry: This is a tough one. I think the standards have genuinely gone down. Jenas, Dublin, Redknapp etc, rubbish. But in general I think men are more suited to the role. They've played the game, they're probably more passionate and critical which makes for better TV. Female pundits have a huge disadvantage that if they are over-critical, they may get slated in social media. Alex Scott is a decent listen but Karen Scott and a few others are not a high standard I feel.

Always felt he has some kind of victim complex, probably as a result of emotional issues growing up as a kid (well-documented). He seemed to be more aware of himself a couple of years back so it's a shame he's turned into a right knob again.

Surely his more nuanced point is why only men who have played premier league football or women who have played WSL can provide “expert analysis” on a men’s premier league match? I don’t recall ever seeing a co-commentator or studio pundit who had only ever played at championship level or league 1 level.
If it’s considered that only people who have played premier league football are able to provide that expert analysis, then that’s who should be providing it - so men only. If that’s not a prerequisite, then the job should be open to any former player and go those who provide the best analysis/co-comms, whether or not they’ve played premier league football and regardless of sex.
I personally don’t care which one of the above is preferred but the current system strikes me as just being politically correct, rather than ensuring we get the best analysis/coverage.
