We need a defender yes, but selling our worst one isnt really anything to worry about..not signing a better one is the problem..

I dont think he's the worst. When on form Evans was considered as the best of the lot. Things do change in here after less than a year

2 injury prone players, 2 average cbs and 2 midfielders

Blind is as good in defence as he is in midfield.

Your ideas about injuries are bizarre.

Time will tell if we should have strengthened here and I thought we should but certainly we have enough players.

He's better than Mcnair and Rojo + he's a better option than 2 midfielders in defense. I wonder whether LVG would consider Rooney as CB

Right now ? Nah he isn't plus he is also more injury prone recently than Jones and Smalling.

And how on earth had you concluded that? How many times had he actually played as CB?

I'll be very surprised if the defence doesn't get exposed this year especially since DDG's heart wont be set on our cause. He was our best player by far. There's nothing wrong in letting Evans go but ffs replace him with some top quality especially since we also have problems with DDG

How did he fall so quickly? He was highly regarded not so long ago. I'm finding it really bemusing how accepted it is that he's leaving. Like it's been a fact that he's on his way all summer, yet we heard nothing from the club or the player. Is there no opportunity for him to fight for his place?

Decent move for both club and player I think. Jones, Rojo, Smalling and Blind all ahead of him. Realizes some value as well.

What's our net spend at now, something like £15m-20m. Essentially nothing.

Well that was ages ago, LVG gave each of this players a chance, Smalling for one took his, Jonny played his way out of the club with his perfomances..He can have no one to blame...LVG judged them on what he saw

Rojo hasn't shown remotely enough yet to convince me that he's as good a defender as a fully fit Evans.

Yeah I'm not sure about him either. Not sure he'll be anything other than a squad player.

Evans at his best ? Yeah. Evans from last season ? I'd have Rojo easily and LVG is even putting Mcnair ahead clearly.

Anyway, the point is at best he would have been a gamble 4th/5th choice backup.

He is a great signing for WBA. I would say Everton or Southampton is his level. Some of you have been rally harsh on him over here.

Actually it was 2 season ago. I never believed the hype. However when one considers that the defense was already as weak as it is, that Evans was actually one of the most experienced of the lot and that the best member of the team looks likely to leave (DDG) or sulk his way out next season, than we would be better off buying a quality CB instead of relying on a midfielder in defense and Paddy Mcnair

Serious underrating of his abilities on here. He is silky smooth on the ball and is actually a decent defender. His problem is that he never really stayed fit for a sustained period of time to make the step up to the next level.

I'm surprised he's going to West Brom. He'd be a great signing for a team higher up the table. Thought he'd be perfect for Southampton for example. Plus Pulis' tactics won't really suit him.

Sad to see him go honestly. I liked him as a player. I still think he's a better option than Rojo who is a bit brainless.

We are better of buying more competent defenders that I fully agree with ,but keeping deadweight at the club hoping that they will turn the corner does us no good..and Paddy Mcnair is a young lad but stepped up admirably last season..even in unfamiliar formations too..

His experience didnt help us one bit last season, in fact he at times played like the least experienced of that bunch....Its amazing how much we overhype some of our players, yet when it gets down to the business of selling them , none of the supposed bigger clubs are in for them..He was a decent player, but I would argue that someone like Wes Brown for example actually gave us much better perfomances..

I think he's found his level. Good luck to him.

Last season was his annus horribilis. Having said that we tend to give players another season to prove themselves. If LVG can't do that for Evans than FFS we should replace him. You can't just tuck a midfielder in defense and hope for the best especially when you consider that our main man in defense (DDG) is unhappy and his replacement happens to be Monaco former reserve keeper.

The more time passes, the more Im starting to believe that we're bracing ourselves to target the 4th place. There's little chance this squad can compete for the EPL title

But I am not arguing for Blind as a defender..for the record, I think that will be exposed sooner rather than later..what I am saying is that we need better defenders in, and selling Jonny provides a space for one in..His performances do not warrant a stay of execution and he deserves to be moved on..A failure to replace him would be stupid, and I actually agree with that..

The problem Evans has had is that he's had too many injuries in the last couple of seasons and he's a slow starter regaining his form but he's a great defender if he gets a run of matches and he's an absolute steal for any side at that price.

If we bring a quality replacement than its only fair for him to leave. If not that this deal is stupid especially if Blackett is also sent away on loan.

its zero apparently

Most of our deals were officially undisclosed, but the figures I've seen:

In: Darmian (£13m), Depay (£31m), Schneiderlin (£25m), Schweinsteiger (£14.5m)

Out: Henriquez (£1m), RVP (£4.5m), Rafael (£2.5m), Nani (£4.5m), ADM (£44m), Evans (£8m)

Net: £19m

The fact he's going to West Brom, for £6m, tells all you need to know about Evans.

Top sides not interested. None of em. All wrong are they?

Depay's fee wasn't £31m (closer to £21m confirmed by the man who broke the story) and Schweinsteiger's fee was closer to £6.5m according to Bild.

I reckon that's actually a decent price for him. Don't see why you'd pay anymore for him in the form that he's currently in.

Decent move for him, and a nice fee for the club. Good move for all parties, wish him the best hopefully he rediscovers his form and shows he's a good player again.

Was a big fan awhile ago....Began to lose patience in Fergie's last season. Snapped after the MK Dons match

Not from my point of view, those two are the only players I've ever been glad to see the back of.

Couldn't stand either of them.

Two lads who were United fans and came through our Academy, who were actually good players and servants to the club and you couldn't stand them.

Interesting.

According to http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-united/transfers/verein/985

In(All in GBP): Schneiderlin(24.5M), Darmian(12.6M), Memphis(19.5M), Schweinsteiger(6.3M)

Out(All in GBP): AdM(44.1M), RvP(4.62M), Nani(4.2M), Rafael(2.1M), Henriquez(1.1M), now Evans(8M)

Net: -£1.2M

If those values are anything to go by that is..

Depay wasnt 31 mil, but 22..and apparently BFS fee may have only been 6mil..

We need to bring a first choice cb and the current run hasnt changed that..but LVG did give Evans a chance last season, and Im sure he factored that into his decision to sell him...He cant afford to keep players that arent performing..Im sure the club will have given him the discretion to do that.

Inevitable that he was going .Wish him all the best .Thought he would have got a move to Everton

Probably another 20m for de gea to come
And we were supposed to have 150m to spend... Its nailed on 170m Neymar deadline day
Won't happen

Yeah 31m Euros, which is around £22m. I suspect we've got more than enough in the kitty for a big signing.

Wish him well for the future but I'm not particularly sorry to see him go I have to say. He's our oldest centre back, played terribly last season and as much as I'm not sold on Jones yet he's 23 and still has time to improve whereas Evans has gone backwards in the last couple of years. I also think McNair and Rojo will be enough that his absence won't hurt us too much.
