Jones will probably play the cup game against Derby alongside Bailly, don't worry lads. :D
That's how I see it. Probable lineup against Derby:

Romero
Dalot Bailly Jones Young
Matic
Pereira McTominay
Mata Martial Lingard
Hoping Chong, Greenwood and Gomes get more minutes than Mata, Lingard and McTominay though..

I bet Fred will start.

Why would that deflected goal change anything anyway?

Momentum. But yeah, his performance didn't really nail him down as a starter but he needs games. Hopefully he gets half an hour and 90 minutes against Derby, and that he shares the MOTM with Dalot to force their way into the lineup against West Ham.

Tbh, it’s a bit surprising that the press haven’t made more of Sanchez’ poor performances for us. Instead, they choose to pick holes in our actual star player who is more often than not the best player on the entire football field.

Lingard is not in form, Rashford is banned, we are playing at home. Why not play with Martial, Alexis and Lukaku? Martial had good game against YB so this is great chance to lift his confidence and form.

I think Martial can push for the starting eleven if he goes and puts in consistent effort in the cup games and against lesser opponents because I think Jose will drop Sanchez just like he dropped Young when Shaw started giving his all.
But there are reasons to worry because Jose wanted Sanchez, Young and Shaw were already in the team. In the end if Martial really does play well, we'll see if Jose is really ruthless enough to bench Sanchez for him. Than again he benched Pogba, feck in the end it's up to Martial to turn up.

Because Alexis can’t even manage that.
He literally set up a goal against Burnley and created chances throughout both our last 2 away games. It seems like people will only care if he scores himself. As if Martial's performance was even that good against Young Boys anyway besides the goal. Dont want to make this a negative thread anyway, I'll leave it there.

Sanchez’ performances cannot be spun as good. He’s been a disappointment regardless of his fecking assist against Burnley. He’s scored 3 goals since January as a forward.

A deflected goal every now and then would be very welcome.

Alexis getting too much criticism here. He is not playing on Arsenal or Barcelona level, nobody can't deny that but he is not playing bad. He is always on the ball, trying to create something, always going direct so it is matter of time when he will start scoring. Except maybe Lukaku neither of our attacking players is not playing on high level this season.

Honestly dont know why Alexis isnt played RW. He can hold his width, he can attempt as many of them lofted passes he wants from there, support the RB who is often left isolated and put in crosses as well as get into the box late to support Lukaku.

Mind-boggling that neither of the three in charge has thought of that. Never heard a journalist ask the question during a presser neither. Hoping that Sanchez will be moved to the right if Martial comes on for Lingard tomorrow.

It’s not really mind boggling, he likes to cut in and it becomes more difficult on the right.

As a neutral, if I were to rank your CBs at the moment I’d go with this.....

= 1st Bailley
= 1st Smalling
3rd Lindelof
= Last Rojo
= Last Jones

Lindelof is last based on his actual performances for us.

pogba started the season in very, very poor form. He was losing the ball a lot and mostly didn't look bothered to work hard. They made a lot out of extreme poor performance. He has been better for a couple of games now

Just like when people were crying for Martial and Rashford to play on either wing.

I really want to see Sanchez as CF. He was in good form playing that position in the Summer.

He's not playing well but is still our most creative player alongside Pogba. However he has lost some pace and I think he should be played closer to goal so he can still make use of his explosiveness and skill without having to cover long distances where defenders will easily catch up with him. See his performances in preseason; he also had his best season at Arsenal playing as striker. On the wing his lack of pace means he keeps trying early long balls into the box which are always low percentage and feed into the impression that he just keeps losing the ball.

Martial is the fan favourite and so whoever rivals him for a place tends to get more scrutiny.

I really agree with this. But we'll lose the target man threat which is a staple of Jose's attacking strategy.
That Summer proved that Sanchez could take this target man role. It's not like Lukaku has been a good "Mou's target man" anyway. Also at least, we may not lose the ball so easy up front with Sanchez.

Sanchez needs to play through the middle, Lingard should be his competition. Rashford and Martial should compete for a spot up top alongside Lukaku.

Play a diamond in midfield.

I'm stoned.

No, he started the season as MOTM against Leicester in his first game. A game in which Sanchez was again rubbish.

I'd like to see:

De Gea
Bailly - Smalling - Lindelof
Valencia ---------- Pereira ---------- Shaw
Fred - Pogba

Lukaku - Sanchez
But I expect Fellaini to play. Don't get me wrong, he's been excellent recently, but I think we need energy, mobility and a better passer in there against a mobile and fluid wolves side. If they press us with Fellaini in there, I would be worried of our chances in this game.

I never really understood the hype behind Jones. Players might be talented but injury prone (ex Mcgrath) or they might be not talented but consistently available (think of Phil Neville). Jones is neither talented nor consistent. He plays like a Championship level defender and he is barely ever available. If he was non British he would have been escorted out of OT long ago.

Would be nice if we could play the 4-2-2-2 that had us beat all the top 6 last season. That would have Sanchez and Lukaku as a strike partnership, and with Shaw looking much better in attack we'll actually have some threat from wide areas.

I think this team would be amazing with a proper right side. But it's been neglected for ages. Hopefully Dalot can develop into a proper right back, he certainly looks the part.

Sanchez has been awful, there is no denying it. Martial has suffered as a result of this, never being given a run of games since while Sanchez has been allowed to play himself into "form" for 7 months now.

This is Alexis Sanchez we are talking about remember, a standout player at one time on the league. And apparently setting up a few goals in those 7 months justifies his near undroppable position in our team. People go on about Martial FC but what about Sanchez FC? He has done nothing at all as a Manchester United player to justify starting over anyone.

Jose dropped Pogba last season v Seville so why can he not drop Sanchez for a run of games. Or shift him to the right and make him earn his place once again? It might do him some good, reignite some hunger for a player who is capable of so much more.

I like Sanchez, I like Martial. Neither have been good enough since January 2018 yet, for the most part, only one is rightly criticised. The other is allowed to stink up the place week after week, there have been games where Sanchez couldn't not make a pass to save his life, would fall over constantly and play like he was half cut on a Sunday morning. Martials worst performances haven't yet reached that level, and he's been awful at times as we all know.

Of course both have had the odd decent showing for us, Sanchez v Spurs in the FA Cup, Martial v Chelsea in February.

If both can reach their best, either play alongside each other or in competition, then we as a team benefit.

To add, Martial looks like he will benefit far more from Shaw becoming integral than Sanchez, off the far fewer minutes Martial has played on the left so far. Something to consider.
