One is the supporting cast. Lewis Ferguson was really good as a player starting in midfield and getting into the box to support him and scoring some goals. He was like McTominay but with better general play.

Another is he had confidence from scoring some goals. Which you would imagine he'd have here after scoring goals, but we havent seen that yet

They probably were, maybe you didn't word it right because it reads can't make a 5 yard pass at all followed by 67% accuracy rate

I don’t mind giving Zirkzee a bit more time. It’s been a rough season all round, he is young, first season in a new country etc.

Clearly the performances haven’t been good enough, but the entire team has been a shambles. If you have a player whose strengths are clearly in linking up with others, then they are always going to struggle in a dysfunctional team. Conversely a more selfish player like Garnacho is more insulated from he shit because he just tries to do it all himself regardless.

Would love to see what Zirkzee is actually capable of in a well oiled attacking unit.

Messed up too many passes late on when the game was there for the taking.

In a normal season though we'd be easing him in as the take a chance sort of signing he was, so hopefully we'll get to see what he can do with a bit more time and a more stable squad, as there's clearly a decent player in there.

He plays in the hole and is nowhere to be found when there's a late run or cutback to be had. He doesn't need service he needs a loan or a sports psychologist. Our last few signings in general seem to be buckling under the pressure of playing here.

He does have some quality to work with but long term I just think he's too slow for the league.

Also, strikers should actually score goals. 5 in 38 games is just not good. 7 goals in 33 games for Hojlund is really poor too.

Agree with you that he seems to lack the total desire required to hack it as a top player. He seems more interested in having fun or something

But a sub like Newcastle is what cost plenty a player his career at top level. He’s actually improving.
I think intensity-wise he is still able to get better, but it needs to be seen if he can be valuable enough for the team. I believe he’s mentally strong enough to keep on working hard and to deal with criticism, but not sure if he can become more clinical/ goal focused - which is indeed essential for him to make it here

I don't know, it feels most of the time he struggles to control a ball along the ground. One point in the first half he was carrying the ball up the field and clumsily knocked it about 2 meters in front of him whilst chasing it, and then ran into an Everton player.

I think its more the intensity of the league and lack of time on the ball to make decisions, he's still capable of showing good skill and dribbling past 2-3 players in tight spaces and find a good pass but it is not nearly consistent enough. Maybe it just takes him some time to adjust to the PL, he's shown some good signs in the last couple of games. He'll get more playing time now that other attacking players are out with injury, that could do him good.

Zirkzee has good close control but isn’t fast, strong, technical, or tactical enough. He should not be taking anyone’s place in the team. There’s no point to playing an erstwhile 10 who couldn’t score in a brothel, and he is not a 9 in any way, shape, or form.
