Surely the line was drawn when Ronaldo left, and these kind of player profiles are never going to happen again at United.

Would be a great signing on loan, but won't happen due to his current salary. Don't expect him to give up a fortune.

I’ll take him until the end of the season if it means Martial leaves 1st

Would be a ridiculous thing to sign him. Every mistake of the past repeated.

But…..if he came on a six month loan, without an obligation to cover his massive wages, I’d do it. He’d provide great cover and experience. Benzema with Rashford and Garnacho either side would be a good front line at times. He’d take the pressure off Hojlund, who is being asked too much of at 20.

It’s such a big caveat that I can’t see it happening. But if it was a pure short term loan without wages. I’d do it simply because we have such limited options. This also assuming Martial leaves for the 7m quoted.

Then in the summer Ratcliffe’s new team should be in place and can sort this mess out.

If he was free, not on silly wages (£150k to £200k max) and signed on a 18 month +1 option then absolutely.

He wont be though, so pass.

I'm surprised people seem up for this. I thought it'd be a universal feck no.

The guys a semi retired, known troublemaker on massive wages. He'd be a massive ego landed into our already shambolic dressing room. Bad, bad idea.

The fact that he'd improve us still is a damning indictment of our squad building, but he just isn't the answer here.

There's a whole world of strikers out there to choose from - surely we can unearth a gem for once rather than signing our annual geriatric, once-great striker.

We keep getting linked with world class players only when they have one leg left

Benzema would need a proper system to shine, midfielders and wingers to combine with. Even if he was 25 years old, I don't think how it'd work with our current team.

I don’t understand, why would people thought he is willing to take a massive wage cut to play here? He would have stay at Real and treated like king with realistic chance of winning trophies there too with similar wage we would be willing to give.

I think people missing the whole point there. He won’t accept anything less than 2-3m per week wage for sure.

We don’t want to become a retirement home! We get linked to good players but only when there in there mid 30s.

I also don't think a 35 year old Benzema would improve us, but a 25 year old Benzema?

I see this line "it won't work with our current team" in regards to every striker that is linked to United nowadays.

Now not even a 25 year old Benzema would be able to help us anymore?
You see people saying in the Kane and Haaland threads that even they would not work in our current setup...

Not one striker is good enough or everyone has the wrong profile it seems.

So genuine question: Which striker would be good enough?

Great striker who left Real Madrid even when he had one or two years left in him to chase money and retirement instead of few more trophies. Exactly the kind of striker we would sign in recent years, I wouldn't be surprised if we were interested.

He'd be the final nail in ETH's coffin, not that there aren't plenty of other nails lying around for this purpose.

Tbh I'm a huge fan of getting all the players who we missed signing back in the day, even if they're over the hill, it's fun.

Cavani, Falcao, Zlatan, Ronaldo, Di Maria, Benzema, Varane, Schweinsteiger.

At this rate we'll get Kane in six years time, Lewandowski next year and Bellingham in 2041

Humour me a moment, but why is he being talked about like a geriatric who can barely muster the strength to kick a ball straight when he scored 19 goals in 24 games in La Liga only last season?

In terms of the way he plays, I think he'd be a fantastic foil for Rashford and Garnacho. In terms of whether we could afford him or he'd be a good character to add to the squad, it's unlikely. If he was genuinely up for the challenge I'd sign him up though, I'm sure he's still got it.

We need an older, experienced striker. 1. for the team to score more goals. 2. For Hojlund to learn from. United always had older more experienced players for young signings to learn from.

Motivation is gone. Once he got the ballon d’Or it was basically over.

People would really say no to him for 6 months?

When we have only 1 striker and our top scorer is on 5 goals?

Really.

I’d snap him up if it’s doable. He’d finish the season our top scorer

Where exactly are the reports that he's unhappy at Ittihad? I recall there were rumours of there being tension with Nuno when he was there, but can't find reliable reports that he's currently looking for an exit.

Of course he would help but what I meant is that he would be nowhere near the player he was at Real Madrid due to the state of our current team. Compare who his teammates were with our current team. There is a gulf in technical ability and football intelligence.

I think after 13 years, 4 la liga titles and 5 CLs, he was entitled you leave Madrid when he wanted, at 36.
