Kylian Mbappe | Merci.

Don’t think we have 150m+ Lying around.
I think if he wanted to come here, we could get it to work. The problem is his willingness to leave Madrid at this moment in his career. Maybe eventually the racial abuse he gets from some Spanish fanbases (Atletico and Valencia) makes him consider a change. But not this season yet.

Rodrygo though, I can see them selling him to balance the books a bit.

Id fancy us to sign Rodrygo. All depends on whether we bin of Antony or not. Can’t be having 3+ first team players for 1 position as it would cause unrest. We need 2 quality players for each position mixed in with some youth prospects.

Considering Madrid is already thin upfront, buying Mbappe and selling Rodrygo would make no sense whatsoever. Let alone selling Vinny.

Brahim / Arda will be obvious choices. Loan in case of Arda, while Brahim probably sold.

Real Madrid don't need to sell any attackers to make space for Mbappe...

Vini Jr Mbappe Rodrygo
Bellingham

Brahim Diaz and Arda Guler will be rotation players and backups coming off the bench or starting every 3rd game to rest the starters.

Real Madrid are set for domination of Spain for atleast 5 years now. They'll get Mbappe and Alphonso Davies this summer. All they need now is a top right back. When the GK and CBs are back fit and they don't need to give Nacho any starts they'll kill it.

Great investments the last few years buying the best young players around.

Mbappe isn’t a 9. He lacks so many attributes to be a 9 that it would be a waste of talent and money. He’s as bad playing 9 as Rashford is, it takes different attributes to play that position

edit

And this is contrary to what Mbappe wants from his football career. When asked for his footballing inspirations, he generally cites two: Thierry Henry and Ronaldo. But whereas both are primarily celebrated for their speed and goalscoring, Mbappe marvels about their all-round game. "That type of player who plays with the ball, connected with the game, but can also play without the ball and create son movement without it," he explained. "This is the type of complete player I want to be."
I play differently (with France)," he said while on international duty recently. "I am tasked with other things here compared to with my club. I have a lot more freedom here. The coach knows that there is a No 9 like Olivier (Giroud) who occupies the defence and I can drift around and move into space. In Paris, it's different, there isn't that. I am asked to be the pivot."
A deleted post on Instagram last week seemingly criticised Galtier's tactics, complete with the hashtag 'pivot gang', essentially making the same point.

He may sign as a 9 but he’ll be back wide left before Christmas and after promises to others were made and broken imo

Like hell he is. He isn't a 9 and doesn't like playing it but he's still the best player in the world. You put him anywhere on the pitch he'd still be a difference maker

He doesn’t like playing as a 9 and as a 9 he’s below the actual elite strikers playing in that position.
Rashford will be a 300 goal striker by the time he’s retired but he’s not even half that player as 9. Mbappe is right there beside him on that scale and it’s not like it’s a wait and see, we’ve already seen it.
I’d also have Bellingham in mind. If Mbappe drops deep playing off Jude then he loses even more to his game and if he plays off the shoulder it cuts off the space for Bellingham to move into.
It’s ok throwing around buzz words and phrases but in 2024 the small elements matter more than during any other era in football. Have we not see enough of this when Mbappe was partnered with fecking Messi and Neymar?!

They also have Endrick arriving the summer iirc

They'll have a interchanging front three, much like us in 08 , where you could argue that neither one of those 3 talented players enjoyed playing as a 9.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Bellingham continue to be the one in finishing off moves and getting those typical number 9 scrappy goals. The lad has shown a real strikers instinct in the area this year and I think that will continue even more so even if Mbappe arrives.

That's why I asked. I don't think that either of those two should be wasted by shoehorning them into a position where they can't give as much as they could on the left.

I obviously don't know as well as Madrid supporters, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Madrid wanting to offload Vini to PSG/Bayern/a Premier League club.

And if I recall correctly, didn't Mbappé kick up a fuss at PSG because he was played as a #9 opposed to his preferred position on the left wing?

That's why they let Neymar go and promised Mbappé to bring in a number 9 he could play with from the left, if I'm not mistaken.

This is what will make things interesting. Ancelotti will have to invent something to keep everyone happy and if it works maybe people will start valuing more coaches who are very good at man management and controlling egos instead of idealising those who excel at making teams play with 200 different formations during a game.

What impact do we think this will have on the career of Endrick?

Vini and Rodrygo were sent to Castilla first but very soon it became clear they were too good and joined the first team. Took them a couple of seasons to be who they are now.

Guessing Endrick will be the same at first. And depending on how he develops. Might take Rodrygos spot if we sell him.

The feck he is. As a 9 he's one of the 2 or 3 best in the world

I still don't understand where this "Mbappe is the bpitw" comes from. I haven't seen enough to suggest that.
Was it the world cup final?

The WC final is pretty much his average. Watch him play enough and it's really obvious

I have and he wasn't really good last season. He hasn't been great this season despite the stats. All this while playing in a not so great league while playing for by far the most dominant team.

He hasn’t looked great this season so far…imagine we get a broken product after all that

He's always decisive. He's not Messi, he won't dominate and look unplayable every game, but he's always making a difference

I think that is part of the problem these days with judging the top talents. No one can be like Messi, he was just so far above everyone else, but if a player doesn't dominate every game like Messi then they are not good enough.

Before Messi, we had the likes of Henry, R9, Baggio, Cantona and all the other attacking greats would come up with moments of magic to win games, but they were never involved for the entire game or dominating. Cristiano never did that either. It is the same for Mbappe, but people forget about what football was like before the brilliance of Messi.

Moments of magic and match winners have always been great to watch in football and that is what we should come back to expecting now that the era of Messi is done.

To equate Cristiano's career at club level, he would need an unbelievable drive and someone like Messi to set a moving target he tries to overtake. He has neither. Plus he has spent a good amount of time at PSG which doesn't help. Imo, he won't reach Ronaldo at club level

I’m guessing his best = teams worst.

So focussed on feeding the goal scorer they forget the actual goal.

Easily. But that’s because Barca are a mess rather than anything else. With Mbappe their changes of European success increase significantly though.

Big Jim should offer him £300k a week and promise him he’ll leave the Nice football club to him in his will

For me Mbappe is easily the best player in the world. But he’s an arse imo and loves the games and limelight. Madrid is perfect for him and Perez is desperate for him. Madrid have to have the best and La Liga too. 2 years ago the chairman of la liga was on tv moaning because Haaland and Mbappe chouce oil money over Madrid/ La Liga. Wouldn’t be surprised if Perez is trying to get both again. Vin, Mbappe, Haaland, is some front 3 with Bellingham in behind. Each a superstar which is what Madrid want. I wouldnt want the Mbappe show at United it’s clear he wants Madrid. Would wreck our wage structure and every summer the narrative would be Madrid. No matter how good he is we need to build properly with solid foundations the Woodward era is over thankfully

He's obviously great but he brings so much drama that adding him to Madrid seems perfectly designed to generate headlines all season long.

I honestly think Perez wants him more because he's a big star than for any other footballing reason.

I honestly believe that at his future club, Mbapp will be more of a normal player than the "monster" he's been enabled to become at Paris

Perez has been obsessed for ages. Which I would understand if this was prime CR7 but the amount of effort has been dumb. We are literally fielding Joselu or playing without a striker due to this saga.

Lucked out with Jude turning into prime Di Stefano and being important all over the pitch.

I have no doubts he is one of if not the best attacking player in the world. I can only see him improving at Madrid, overall better opportunities and challenges for him than PSG. He's only 25, best years ahead of him.

Against Sociedad he looked his usual terrifyingly fast self to me.

Maybe Haaland is better, but I'd take Mbappe over Kane or Osimhen so yeah, I think the top 2 are in a tier of their own, or it's a top 4 of those guys, but I just can't quite see putting Osimhen or Kane above Mbappe as a #9, even though those guys are better at lots of traditional #9 stuff.
