Terrible game but I’ll take the 3 points. Torres has been amazing signing.

Atletico and Napoli in the coming weeks, we’ll get stomped by Napoli but Atletico have also been up and down so I’ll gladly take a draw.
Wait what? His game was totally mediocre tonight before the asssist. Had the game stopped at the 87th minute, i'd rate him 4/10 or something.

His second half was bad but he started playing on the opposite side. But two assists and a goal in two matches is a good start considering how poor we are at attacking.

Obviously while I watch la liga im not very immersed in its news and club operators, so can someone who's more in the know tell if sevilla are actually trying to capitalize on the circumstances and push for the title or is it just normal business for them?

Copa Del Rey quarter-final matches going on right now with Real Betis leading 1-0 against Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao vs Real Madrid starting in 10 minutes. Will be a tough game for Madrid with Benzema out.

Athletic to the semifinal, well deserved. Big mistake of Casemiro in the goal. Would you sell him this summer?.
Ancelotti left Hazard, Jovic and Bale on the bench, probably waiting for the extra time

Congrats @DomesticTadpole

Expected to lose. No Benzema, brazilians who just came back from SA, and this was our 4th match against them and the previous 3 were all close and won on episodes. No way we could beat them like that again

I am thrilled to have won. Thing with Athletic Club is that on their day they can beat anybody, just not sure they believe that themselves sometimes.

Honestly this is really really good athletic side. If they can find a fecking reliable goalscorer they'd be up there with Sevilla right now

Agree. Some are getting older, but they seem to bringing through some good kids. They seem to like producing goalkeepers. Even the goalscorer came on because Nico Williams had to go off at HT.

The news throughout the week was the qualifiers in South America and how the players would arrive tired and with almost no time before the Cup match, and Ancelotti decided to start Casemiro, Vini and Rodrygo.
Asensio plays a terrible game and his solution is Isco, after Hazard was warming up and returned to the bench(apparently Bale laughed when he saw it).
Then he has 6 minutes of injury time and does not make a substitution.
He was too conservative.I think he expected extra time from the minute 75. These bad decisions (and lost trophy) are the ones that will mark whether or not he continues next year.
I wonder if under pressure and trying to save his ass he'll start making press/fan lineups.

I'd have fancied Real Madrid in extra-time or penalties. Bilbao was desperate to win the game in regulation time knowing how clutch Madrid is. Madrid can't seem to win the Copa Del Rey. Has to be Bilbao's tournament to win now.

Betis are in a good moment of form and athletic is a specialist in failing with more modest teams. Nico Williams' injury is important as well.
Another factor is to see how they arrive physically, last year from February they had a significant physical downturn.

I think the favourite right now is Real Betis. They are 3rd on the league and their last 4 games has been:

2-1 win against sevilla in the 1/8th of copa del rey.
4-0 Againt Alaves in la liga
1-4 against Espanyol in la liga
0-4 against Real Sociedad in the 1/4th of copa del rey.

I think Betis is the team of la liga in the best shape right now, they are super fun to watch too.

Take this with a grain of salt given the sample size, but i think Athletic are the second best side we played this season, after Inter

Athletic is a very physically team and a lot of intensity. They have very clear automatics. Press and once recovered the ball open the wingers.

Nico Williams (19, winger) he is a very fast and powerful player, like his brother but with a little more quality.
There's a guy who plays for Athletic B, Nico Serrano (18) who can be important as a left winger. The hope they had in Morcillo seems that it will not be able to be, the player has not evolved well.

Sancet can also be an important player, he has a lot of quality, his natural position would be AMC but he is playing as a striker because Marcelino only plays a classic 4-4-2.

Athletic has a problem in their academy, they don't have quality strikers or midfielders. On the other hand goalkeepers, cb and wingers produce many.

His great hope as a striker is Ewan Urain, 21yo and 1.92 ( 6.3f). But he has been injured for 2 years and plays for the Scottish under 21 team.

The two subsidiary teams are doing quite poorly, Athletic B (1 Rfef) is in relegation places and Baskonia (3 Rfef) is in the lower part of the classification.

Athletic B coach De la Sota was recently fired and replaced by Baskonia coach Patxi Salinas.

I personally believe that Athletic Bilbao should take another path in the academy. They need quality midfielders. And the example is very close, Real Sociedad, the academy was chosen the best in Spain in 2021 and develops players of great technical quality.

Harsh penalty I have to say. Good for the title race though.

Never mind, Rakitic misses it..

Barcelona set up in a 3-2-5/3-3-4. Very fluid

Why does it look weird? When they zoom in on the players it almost looks CGI or like playing fifa.

He's the most entertaining footballer in the world. He can beat players one on one for fun and then proceed to be completely clueless and have zero end product.
He's a rugby player that uses baby oil because he's superstitious. He's literally a cartoon character.

Brings chaos, which is a good thing. Already shown it as it basically set up their goal

Think he can really excell there unfortunately. Xavi is smart enough to know how to use him

If Adama is involved in any goal it's purely accidental.

It's the new supercamera which stands to 4k as HD stands to SD. Can only use it on close ups though right now apparently
