Liam Delap | £30m release clause?

can’t muster even a little bit of excitement about this potential signing. Players like this aren’t going to take us into the top half of the table.
“Taking us in to the top half of the table” is a bit of a drastic statement. This is the first season we’ve really truly fecked it, and made a European final. We had a change of manager, and a lot of turmoil and injuries to match.

We’ve got a very good chance of finishing top half next season with just a handful of changes, never mind adding in some high quality and hard fighting players.

Delap doesn’t excite me either, but it makes more sense than spending £60m+ on a striker that might not be what we need.

Yep, and these are the profile of players we need, experienced winners. A Zlatan or Cavani is just what we need. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be one out there
Yeah the cupboard looks bare for experienced strikers who won't cost the earth this summer

And Belfast Rashford's isn't? I not sure I have seen many players at United with a worse attitude than Rashford.
You must be about 5/6 years old then. Forgetting Pogba? Lingard, Martial? I’m not defending Rashford by any means I’m just saying if one of him or sancho stays it’s most likely going to be him.

recency bias i think its called.

Not quite as simple, the figures you give for Sancho and Antony represent a loss in PSR terms, that has to be taken in to consideration
Do they?

Sancho has 1/5 years left of a £70m deal and Antony has 2/5 years left on an £80m deal..

Fraction of a loss at worst - savings to be made on their wages though

Jonathan David and Yoane Wissa. That’s about it really. Aside from that we’d be taking a punt in one way or another. Mateta’s output isn’t good enough. Schick already flopped in Serie A and comes with fitness concerns. And on and on…

I'm told Gyokeres is going to Arsenal. I think this is such a bad mistake from us. I guess we wouldn't have been able to tempt him here, but he's going to take them to another level.

Delap isn't guaranteed to get anywhere near this level. Basically we're looking at Charmander (with no guarantee of even the next evolution) while Arsenal get Charizard.

Or maybe Arsenal are getting a Championship level striker who has padded his stats in a weaker league and turned into fools gold.

Utd don’t need a 1 season wonder. We need a striker with a decent tally for at least the last 2-3 seasons.
Gyokeres for me. Do a Chelsea and spread the cost over 6 seasons to comply with FFP.

A controversial take maybe, but we could have done with Rashford in the 2nd half of the season if he and Amorin could have just buried the hatchet.

You mean if Rashford just did what his manager told him to do as he should? He didn't want to be here clearly and its fine.

We will move on and replace him in the summer simple as.

Hopefully. But let's see when someone has to actually stump up a fee and wages for them.

He will get the Sancho treatment if not. There is zero chance he is part of next seasons squad

As Sancho did he refused to follow the managers instructions and bailed on the club midway through the season. Zero chance that sort of character will be allowed back into the dressing room whilst the club is attempting to reset culture

I’m more confident in Delap being a good signing than I am Cunha.

Find this thread so surreal. You'd think this were a young Rooney or Benzema from some of the posts.

Also the "race" to sign him. Like it were a superstar Hazard choosing his big club destination.

Will be an interesting thread to look back on in a year or two. Perhaps this is the next great striker.

Manchester United being in the predicament where there's a chance we have to find out potentially the hard way makes me sad.

I think the posts making it out he's anything even remotely close to this are very very much in the minority
