How about we actually sign a proper CDM rather than one that can do a job there?
That's because he's only half as tallOnly 24 years old and would probably cost us half of what we paid for Maguire.
We have too many areas of the pitch that need addressing to do that this window. I would expect nearly every player we bring in to be able to play multiple positions and paper over cracks we'd otherwise have by the end of this window. How about we actually sign a proper CDM rather than one that can do a job there?
Absolute no reliable links to CDM in a long time. We're just not after one as much as it sounds absurd and ignorant, not making steps to address that position. How about we actually sign a proper CDM rather than one that can do a job there?

Does feel like Erik isn't looking for a pure DM but someone who is flexible enough to play at CB but also step into midfield tooHow about we actually sign a proper CDM rather than one that can do a job there?

Why did he do that by the way? They were crap at the time, and he just ruined his reputation. And then didn’t get the move. Seems like the most counterproductive stance to possibly take, which makes me think that there must have been some underlying reasons.Another Argentine defender we had a few years back was also a bit on the short side but he did quite well, until he said he wanted to join Liverpool.
"pound for pound"That's because he's only half as tall
That's even worst, if my (future) kid would drop out from Harvard, by using Zuckerberg as example. It also matters where you drop out of. Bill Gates and Zuckerberg dropped out of Harvard. Not the unkown college near my home.
Maybe he didn't fancy the fight for his place with Evra? He played in the FA Cup Final ahead of Evra at the end of that season when he asked out, but he was no longer undisputed first choice. Liverpool had Benitez and a significant Spanish speaking contingent at the club too. I think money would also have been a factor. Think Heinze has since said he regretted it.Why did he do that by the way? They were crap at the time, and he just ruined his reputation. And then didn’t get the move. He was a 5ft 10 left back -- not that short for a left-back. Denis Irwin was only 5ft 8 as an LB. Evra was even shorter. Besides, they don't have to deal with the Nunez or Haalands of the world, one on one.Another Argentine defender we had a few years back was also a bit on the short side but he did quite well, until he said he wanted to join Liverpool.
Think we are interested but still unsure how Ten Hag wants to use him in this teamI take Comfort that most of the noise is coming from the Dutch press and not the British press.
might be a ploy to try and drive up the price for the gooners. At least I hope so.
Power does. We’ve all seen Lindelof get thrown around like a dog toy. Aggression is a big part of it, Keano wasn’t the tallest after all, but if you’re smaller you’re going to struggle against more powerful strikers aren’t you.Power and speed has nothing to do with height. Aggression is more relevant to power and speed than height, which lot of short players can have or tends to have. So I still don't get how you come out in a conclusion using that quote that either Timber or Martinez wouldn't play as CB but instead may be involved playing in midfield??
I don't think we are playing a back 3. That will defeat a big purpose of why we really wanted De JongWill his height be a problem at all if we end up playing 3 at the back? In this case, I would assume he'll play more as a ball carrier and playmaker from defence while the other two defenders can handle any big forwards or headers.
Utdreport doesn't know that we don't work during weekends?Tweet

Varane is a threat to VaranePeople seem to assume (on twitter at least) that this potential signing would spell the end of Maguire as a starter.
I have the - perhaps unpopular - opinion that it would be more of a threat to Varane
….& yet last weekend we made a breakthrough on the FDJ deal. Funny how that works eh?Utdreport doesn't know that we don't work during weekends?
You are probably right. Maguire is an £80m English asset. I don’t think ability will have much say.People seem to assume (on twitter at least) that this potential signing would spell the end of Maguire as a starter.

Breakthrough . Soon you will say that we did great stuff by preparing a bid….& yet last weekend we made a breakthrough on the FDJ deal. Funny how that works eh?
Also UTDReport are quoting the daily mail. As stated at the end of the tweet. UTDReport are an aggregator
Matip is a strange player. So gangly and graceless but he’s brilliant at driving with the ball. Never looks in control but before you know it the ball has been progressed 20 yards up the pitch
If Varane's fit Maguire's status of captain cant be enough to keep him out of the team. Only way Maguire plays is if Varane's injured imo. Lindelof obviously becomes 4th choice as wellPeople seem to assume (on twitter at least) that this potential signing would spell the end of Maguire as a starter.

The reason we have too many areas on the pitch that need addressing is precisely because we keep ignoring them for years on end by either buying players we don't need, or buying players we can use but are being brought in for redundant positions. Secondly, I'd argue that a defensively strong centre midfelder is the biggest priority right alongside an RW and RB.We have too many areas of the pitch that need addressing to do that this window. Yeah still say we need to sign a new starting RBIts cool that we are getting a CB, but RB is a higher priority. Our options there are pathetic tbh.
Eclectic players are more necessary than ever in our current state and budget. Once we can fill the extra positions, they can be singular and hone in on a specialist position on the pitch, but for now, this season in particular, once the games come thick and fast, X filling in for Y or Z in an injury crisis or for rotation will be worth its weight in gold. The reason we have too many areas on the pitch that need addressing is precisely because we keep ignoring them for years on end by either buying players we don't need, or buying players we can use but are being brought in for redundant positions.
