Never in million years we've seen 20 points lead..it's ridiculous.

True about City, since they lost their first choice center back, they went to shit.
City by 19 in 17/18, we won it by 18 points in 2000, shit happens occasionally it's not that rare.

 Yeah, Liverpool definitely breaking that record. And annoyingly it's not even that City are that shit, they'll probably get about 90 points. It's just that Liverpool are too fecking good.
Liverpool are very good but City are currently on 2.125 points per game which would see them finish with 81 points (rounded up), aka Mourinho's fabled second place finish. It's a huge drop off by their standards, and generally not a title-winning pace.

Laporte is back, and if I was a betting man I'd bet big they'll be closer to 90 than 81.

It's like the Premier League as predicted by Mark Lawrenson, except even more extreme

Made me wonder, Is that the standard now?
to win the league, a team must have above 100 points.

Mind boggling.
It will drop soon enough. People thought Barca and Real Madrid would always win the league with 100 points but neither will get to 90 this season.

Probably will need Klopp and Guardiola to leave their respective positions though as both are relentless in league seasons. When Man. United won leagues early under SAF they'd tend to drop intensity in last few games and drop a few points like in 12/13 so think that's a little difference.

Also in 12/13, we were 15 points clear by the 30th game mark. And if it wasnt for a shite end to the season (12 points from 8 games), we looked set to break the 100 point mark.

Last season was close, but one team being well clear has been more the norm hasn't it?
Chelsea, City and now Liverpool in recent years.

Just not this ridiculous. Noone bar us taking a draw off them as deep as what will be Feb!

Hate to admit how good a job Liverpool have done over the last few years. They appointed the right manager, and the right infrastructure to support him.

They'll beat Arsenals 49 games.

Imagine they go the entire PL season only dropping pts against us. That means to break the record a team would have to win every PL game. Bonkers to think it would happen.

And in 00/01 we won the league with five games to spare and then picked up a grand total of four points in those last five games.

We still have Arsenal and City away.

IF, and that's a big if we beat them, I can see us going unbeaten.

You can blame Man City and Pep Guardiola for that. Posting 97 and not winning last season really turned something in Liverpool.

Chances are it'll revert back to the norm of ~90-ish again next season anyway.

That plus winning the CL
Losing to Spurs I think would have been huge heart break to get over

They will probably make it and win the league of course, but would be funny if they failed at the 49th game.

Losing to Comeback Winning!
Their domestic games consistency is ridiculous from latter part of last season till now. Impressive.

CL gives them that huge boost in winning mentality and confidence. Trailing City last season offers big confidence. And the fact that they're winning EPL back for Pool is a huge motivation for the players personally to make another mark in history.

But I wonder if the current epl top teams are struggling may besmirched a bit of Pool's PL achievement, similar to Leicester winning the league there are people said it's luck and only happened when the top teams were all struggled. Arsenal's unbeaten is during a period where other top teams (United and..?) were still a threat.

After getting the PL trophy and who knows another CL, crumbles/cracks are likely to happen. Players demanding higher humongous wages, wanting to leave and losing motivations in performing etc. Klopp doesn't have a good record in maintaining winning mentality ryte? And handling possible complacency. Let's just see.

City have not done that well in the league, but they're still a huge threat. They will likely win a domestic cup this year and might even win the champions league.

Leicester had one good season, and won the league on a points total that wouldn't be enough in most recent years. It's a bit ridiculous to compare this Liverpool squad to theirs.

As far as losing motivation, I think Klopp has an expiration date just like everyone else. However, his departure at Dortmund was sped up by them losing multiple star players, especially to their toughest league rivals. That's not happening with Liverpool, and if they do sell a star, they'll be in good shape to buy someone like Sancho as a replacement.

I expect Liverpool to have a bit of a drop off next year, but if they have decent health they should be able to aim for 90 points or so. I also expect Klopp to stick around until his front 3 get past their primes, which should be 3-4 more years.

The biggest difference between dortmund and liverpool is that dortmund wasn't in a position to replace half the team and remain competitive. Though whether Klopp wants to oversee a rebuild or not remains to be seen.

Either way this liverpool side likely have another one or two seasons in them.

Only thing that might put a wrench in the plan is Van Dijk agitating for a move, as he's essentially their Sun and replacing him would be very difficult

I prefer playing City than Wolves at the moment, which should say everything. Liverpool's competition have crumbled behind them.

So they are Level 42...with Nottingham Forest barring a complete collapse.

Unbeaten record is there for the taking.

Their next 5 games are pretty easy then they meet City on Etihad, if they don't lose this they'll break the record.

I don’t think they’ll drop a point between now and officially winning the league. It’s then just a case of if Klopp can keep them focussed on getting that invincible tag and I fear he can.

My wit's end
I hope they win every league game between now and the end of the season, giving them a record or W37 D1

How are they going to celebrate it?

A title? Okay, but a team wins the title every season.

An unbeaten season? Okay, but Arsenal already did that.

The highest ever points tally? Okay, but there's been a highest ever points tally since the sport began.

A near perfect season? Okay, but why not perfect? Oh, you dropped points and blemished your otherwise spotless record? Against who? Oh, Manchester United? Manchester United, as in your most bitter rivals? Oh, that's nice.

It's going to be impossible to talk or think about the the season (as undeniably great as it is) without being forced to consider that Ole took points off them.

Like Lady Macbeth trying to wash the spot of blood from her hands. They almost got away with it, but that spot is always going to be there and it'll be impossible to not think about in any retrospective.

I just hope they get knocked out the cups, though.

Fans who claim Martial is just as good as Firmino needs to buy new glasses.

He's fantastic
You need to buy glasses - no one says he's good as Firmino, they say he should be used like him, used deeper with Rashford out wider and another wider forward out on the right not Daniel James.

Fans who complain about Martial not being able to lead the line because he isn't Zlatan Ibrahimovic should get glasses because they are too different type of players.

Get a proper striker as a tactic but martial is good enough if used in the right tactic - not using James outwide crossing balls in to nobody in to the box etc - if that's to be used then get a better ighalo type striker for long term use so we can adapt our front line for tactical use.

3 factors in Liverpool being so far ahead.

Motivation from last year.

VAR gifting them points and hobbling City for first 4 odd months of the season with Laporte getting injured.

The 18 teams apart from City / Pool have declined hugely, big name teams especially dreadful this year, Chelsea, Utd, Spurs...

Overall, it's a woeful season unless you're a Liverpool fan.
