It's nonsense. I'm telling ya, PR statement to excuse the fact he just got fat. His self analysis is Trump-worthy; genuinely makes no sense.

Reminds me of the Chris Rock bit where he gets caught cheating and exclaims, " who are you going to believe? Me or your lying eyes!?"
I think it was a month at max between the end of the PL and the tournament so he either took PEDs or he got fat like you said

Not just that. Lukaku in the interview says that he knew he was overweight at the start of the season. So why has it taken till December to lose the weight? Even normal people can lose 3-4 kgs in a month. This guy playing a sport like football could have easily lost the extra pounds. But it looks like the big man just can't follow a diet.
This is the worst part of all this for me. We're led to understand that it was a WC special this bulk  so why not prepare yourself and lose muscle way before December ?

So go on then I'll bite. From finishing the season with United, to starting the first game at the world cup, how much muscle mass would he have put on in those few weeks if the above that you mentioned are perfect for him?
Depends when he started bulking up, maybe it was during the season, or when he got injured near the end of the season.

Dunno the exact amount of muscle mass he's put on, but if all the conditions are perfect like you said and if he's got freak genetics, he can put on muscle really fast, especially if he stayed on the same diet and regiment after the WC into this season as well.

Absolutely! I'm lazy as feck and nowhere near as fat as Romelu. I'd outpace him on a football pitch on any given day and my horrible first touch is miles better than his. So when he makes excuses like this, Imma call his fat ass out.
You are not faster or have a better touch than a top level Premier League football player, what the feck are you on about.

The Cafe has been talking about this man's weight and its implications for months. Did the media and united catch on it just now. The articles are everywhere, it's annoying

Our club are a little slow to catch on, when it comes to issues regarding their own players.

I guarantee you I'm faster than Lukaku and, despite it being absolutely shite nine times out of ten, my first touch is better than his, too.

Talks a lot of nonsense does this grown ass man, especially for a supposed student of the game. No logic in what he’s saying whatsoever, just a big fat liar.

As others have mentioned this is more damning on our staff though, should never have allowed this to happen. How do you allow your 75+ million quid asset get out of shape.

Bit of a trend, isn’t it? Goes back to the days of Anderson and Rooney...

Thought when Shaw arrived for his first season looking like a tub of lard, LvG immediately called him out and got him on a proper fitness regime.

He's much stronger than I am, better at hold up play and finishing but in speed and first touch I'd wager my skills beat his any day any time and I have an atrocious first touch.
Right on homie! Tbh his hold up ain't that great either, he often gets bullied by players that are supposed to be weaker than him. I remember one time even Blind kept him in his pocket.

Did he even explain why he needed to get bigger for the WC? He was already the biggest stroker at the tournament ffs.

Lukaku's top speed is in the mid 30s kph, which would translate to the high 30s mark in a straight line. No one on this forum is faster than him unless they are a professional athlete.

Someone saying they are faster and have a better touch than Lukaku on this forum is one of the alltime highlights or lowlights depending on how you look at it.

This, even heavy Lukaku would be ridiculously quick over distance in a straight line. The problem is that type of speed is less useful than one might think in football. Acceleration, agility and balance are what really matter for most players, as well as having exceptional stamina. Adding unnecessary bulk will not help any of those attributes.

Mind-boggling that a professional football club at the elite level can overlook something as fundamental as whether or not the player is in the optimal condition to play football and also not have an inkling as to what is the right shape for that player to be at their best.
Why do you think so many of even ex Man United players have put their kids in City's academy, the way our club is run is embarrassingly bad in all departments except commercialisation and the reason we are in this predicament.

Can't believe Belgium who has Henry as an assistant coach in their set up would think that Lukaku needs to add more muscles to his game .

Henry was as sleek as they came along and thats the standard that Lukaku should be aiming instead of trying to audition for an NFL roster spot .

One can't make an argument that extra weight that you carry around is the cause for a horrible first touch and poor positioning.
I mean even with the little extra muscle, this man is still unable to physically bully defenders.
This is pure nonsense which i feel was put out to divert attention away from his poor performances.

The funny thing is that Lukakus game isn't about being strong. I've never seen a striker with such a build be so bad at using his upper body strength.

His game has been built on pace and running the channels. He should be looking to be as lean as he can get.

Someone must have told him to be a hold up guy. With that physique he didn’t need more muscle, just needed to learn how to use his body. Which he’s dreadful at. Even though he keeps bragging about his strength.

This!

That's his role in the Belgian NT, and he's very good at it. But he gets passes from Hazard, Mertens and De Bruyne, at Utd he's hardly getting any service. It's like someone told him here to stop doing to do those runs and try to act the target striker, which he isn't.

He's already a big fella. Just adding muscles to that frame and think you'll get more goals is insane. He needs to vastly improve his timing and more important, his agility. Remember when we bought Andy Cole. Reminded me of a panther (no I'm not being racist, just the best way I can describe him) Fantastic movement and a true athlete. Maybe Lukaku would do better looking at him instead.

I was looking at a few of his older pictures, his thigh muscles looked quite defined. In our recent games his thighs are completely round. The guy really put on some weight.

Worrying facts are:
- why did he notice it in fecking December?
- what is our fitness staff doing?

Whats with United players, past and present, having weight problems?

Anderson, Shaw with the Rooney body type comment or excuse, and now Lukaku bulking up?

There really has to be an answer at the club why the all-around physic is so bad. How can one look as swollen as Lukaku though guided by the "physio department". There really should be someone questioning if they really know how to do their job. This is on a ridiculously low level.
