All these years we have seen nothing but
disappointment after disappointment in the
transfer market.

Clearly, a new chairman is needed to lead the mission. Someone who is able to visualize a new vision and possessed skillful means to formulate strategies so as to achieve targets set for long term interest & benefit of this club.

please cast your votes here.

I vote aye!

Ruud, Seba, Ferdinand... We wanted them and we got them. Forget the price, fans can't on one hand cuddle them and say we needs big players and with the other hands hit them and say they are paying too much.

Kenyon isn't going anywhere and maybe he shouldn't go, because he may be really good at anything but the football transfers. But we should bring someone from the outside maybe who's purpose would be negotiating transfers.

loosing the purse strings...you are kidding. They need to stop chucking money about like there's no tomorrow & get a decent negotiator...thank God we did not loosen the strings any more for goofy...we may well have missed out by not dumping the deal sooner...a monumental waste of time!

get your facts right, kenyon is not totally at blame, though he's not exactly a great negotiator either.

Can't imagine what more Kenyon could have done. It seems behind the scenes it was Ferguson-Kenyon v the rest of the board for going all our for Ronaldinho.

totally agreed. our money is earned, unlike Real's, so we really cannot afford to chuck it around like waste papers.

the thing that pisses me off, is not the fact that we didnt get ronaldinho but the fact that we lost Becks and now it seems like we won't get a world class player to replace him. Duff? he's a left sided player and just how would we fit him in?

And that limit wasn't right? How many people here said 15m and no more, now saying maybe 20m would have been ok or 23? Stick to your guns I say. He's just not worth all that money.

:o

I agree perfectly, "angry smiley" was to show my anger at the people wanting Kenyon sacked for following the limit. So if you want to blame someone, blame the board..Kenyon had to drag it this far in order to get the player. He almost did the deed!

My question is why wasn’t there a limit set when Man Utd bought Rio? Or did Man Utd Corp registered a higher profit margin that year? Why did stam & graille revealed the “unorthodox” method employed by the Man Utd negotiators?

Is the above a “sure-way” tactic for transfer negotiations? What are the implications? ‘Image’ is an important aspect for a multi-corp like Man Utd where it could mean increase/decrease fan’s support in tangible terms.

Not to digress from the main point. A chairman is the leader of the board. He leads & envision the path ahead with support from all levels. He failed on this. There are a lot of dynamics & ‘funny matters’ going on here. I comprehend your point of the blame ‘being on the board directors’. I leave this with the Man Utd fan’s own judgment.

The disappointment on the night of the semi-final against Real Madrid & the loss against Arsenal at O.T. in 2001/2002 season are something I dread upon seeing again.

Exactly what is a good negotiator?

The reason we get buggered for money is not because of Kenyons negotiating, its because of the status of our club. We proclaim ourselfs as the richest club in the world and when a team are up the shitter, they know they can milk us dry.

While our status remains as a immensely rich club, having a good negotiator will not a change a thing when it comes to transfer fees, as the club will just state "Its X ammount, or nothing", knowing full well we have enough to pay the said demand.

So it is not Kenyons negotiating skills that has sent the Ronaldinho deal tits up, it is his, and others, proclamation (even a word?) that we are the all-mighty rich power in Football.

Chairman and CEO are two different jobs held by two different people with different responsibilities (towards the shareholders, not the fans). Which of them are you criticizing, the one who formulates the strategies or the one who implements them? Or both?

Kenyon is simply not good enough, OK he bought us Seba, Ferdinand etc. Come on any monkey representing United can do that.

Basically, he's cost us millions of pounds, that's not including travel expenses. Everyone knows we paid over the odds for Veron, Ferdinand, Forlan and dont forget £4m of associated costs to Veron's team.

Let's not forget Ferdinand, who in their right mind pays £30m to a club facing liquidation..

Regarding negotiations it would help if when selling our players we retained the option of keeping them so that clubs didn't hold us over the barrel knowing the bridges had been burnt. Similarly when buying it would help if we went simultaneously for several targets rather than banking on the one. Oh, and it'd help to actually make the same written offer as the verbal one.

I agree on the part on the status of our club

but the deal should have been sealed at least a week ago

if Kenyon had paid the amount he verbally agreed with PSG, Barca would have never re-enter the race and signed Ronnie

maybe we don't need a good negotiator, we just need someone who does what he promises

Being a Liverpool fan looking in, I have to say that Man United did their utmost to get this bloke. He just played them against eachother hoping for Barca or Real to make a move. You should be happy he has fecked off cos his heart wasn't in it.

Honest post by a scouse, what the feck?!

What's up with the Zidane-5 nick? Something to do with the scouse dream from 2 years ago of signing the bloke? ;)

The mistake we made was not to have an alternative choice, this way we could have played the same game as PSG, play club against club. A limit has to be agreed and also a time scale, if we can't get a deal within our time scale and limit then walk away, instead Kenyon was having to negotiate with PSG AND the Board. A lesson has be learned here, lets hope we take it on board.

I think you did have an alternative, Harry Kewell, Ricardo Queresma (now at Barca) and now maybe even Damien Duff.

However, you were led up a garden path by this bloke who only a week ago said his first choice was United.

I don't think you can blame the board, the same board that has sanctioned so much money in the past 3 years for Ferguson.

Well maybe giggs can play on the right to show his versatility :) .

Like most of the other posters I also think that it wasn't Pete's fault. Fecking board did not let this go, which is good that we showed our stand. However, I think it is a bit embarassing to chase the player for 2 months, and after all this saga not to sign him over 1-2 mil. Oh well, there is always another superstar in the making in some other team. Fergie will find him.

I disagree, i think he has done pretty well, we have paid up big when needed to and he think he just felt he was being drawn into paying too much so he pulled the plug. Fair enough to me!

i think we have done the right thing. Ronaldiniho is a scrawny player all skin and bone, i think there would be a good chance he would end up spending a lot of time injured playing in England where defenders take no prisoners in their tackles.

I am very happy that we pulled out, this kid was definately not worth that much money. I honestly think Barca only wanted to up the price on us, now they have to commit to paying a ridiculously huge sum of money for a player worth probably about 12-16 mil.

Again, we want the players that really want to play for man utd, if ronaldinho really wanted to play for us he could have failed to agree terms with barca leaving psg with the options of either keeping him or giving united another chance. As it stands, he is playing ball with barca. I cant wait for keano to nail him in the champions league next year! oh silly me barca are not even in the champions league next year, sorry ronnie!

I believe most of us are relieved that "Goofy" saga is over and to be honest I am somewhat glad that Goofy ain't joining us. Perhaps we could have been tougher is our nego and at the end of the day all this bullshit that came from Goofy and his agent finally showed its true colours! About wanting to be the first brazilian to play for united,etx..... Ronnie never wanted to play for us period. And to pay 21 M quid for him!!!??? Before being accused of being sour grapes...I sincerely believe it's a blessing in disguise.

People forget...in times where top clubs in the world are in bad financial state, United is able to hold its own thus far. With that..it comes with its cons as well. People will always expect United pay a huge premium for players.

Kenyon has done a good job for the club in my opinion and should not be blame for not signing Ronnie.

Goodness..how soon we forget that United had a terrific season in the EPL.

AGain...not signing Ronnie does not equal to United will not be able to compete in EPL and the Champions.....

One thing people seem to forget, is what will we be really missing?? I can't recall any south american players who have taken this league by storm & what happens when the winter sets in..you can bet your life he would go missing in half the games, we will probably never know the real reasons why we lost out, if indeed we have lost out....If it was true that Ronnie wanted to come to UTD, why did he not, his brother made enough 'talk' to suggest he was on his way??
As ever , as soon as we are menthioned to be after a player, you can guarantee 25% increase in valuation!!! I just think we had a valuation & would not be held to ranson - It seems PSG were 'auctioning' him off - should have stuck him on ebay!!!...As for Becks going, well as much as I like him, he is not true world class, superbly gifted player yes but not worldclass - a term ever so 'over-used'..but even now i think was becks sold by the club or did he want to leave off his own back....you know what will happen at season start, we will start slow & it will be they same people asking for fergies head etc etc!!

Disappointments in the transfer market. So what.

Worry about what happens on the pitch. If you are still disappointed year after year - stop supporting Liverpool

You want Kenyon out?

Complete utter rubbish. We are the envy of the whole footballing world. Over the last 10 years, the PLC have built up a sound business case. The stadium and training facilities are the best, period. Also, we are now able to pay the wages that players want.

Don’t you remember the mid-nineties when we had a salary cap and missed out on the Shearer’s and Ronaldo’s of this world? Things have moved on since then

The club’s future has never looked better. It could be worse; we could have tenuous 5 years ahead of us like Arsenal.

We’ve missed out on Ronny, I was gutted for 5mins. No one is bigger than the club. We will be alright.

You are obviously incredibly wise to deduce that the posts I have had made are based solely on press reports & not careful detailed analysis by a soccer fan. All press reports made have their purposes intended whether it is to informed the factual happenings or otherwise.

It is the usage of our both theoretical and physical knowledge/experience to judge, see & conclude whether or not that the things wrote or heard are factual or fallacy.

It doesn’t require a PHD to understand that the success of Man Utd football club has to do with it’s success on the pitch. It is not unfair to say that ‘Bushy babes’of the 60’s and
‘Class 92’ of fergie babes are largely responsible, together with ‘slick’ marketing have brought tremendous success to Man Utd in terms of championship trophy, financial reward & not forgetting soccer fame.

Is our present chairman and C.E.O. of Man Utd leading us towards that tradition? Is a successful business man equates a successful football club leader? So, can you ask Kenyon why is Rio’s bid are allowed? Is his football skills superior that of Ronnie? Or did Kenyon actually find out whether or not Veron has the passion & commitment to play for Man Utd when he actually accuses Ronnie of lacking one. (Ronnie & his brother publicly stated that he would signed for Man Utd if PSG has accepted the bid from Man Utd)

Like I said in my earlier post, there are a lots dynamics & ‘funny’ matters going on here.
I leave it to the Man Utd fans to decide if he is the right leader for this club. Time is a good
gauge for the truth.

Oldred, I have never declared in any posts of mine that I am a well-informed,
‘someone-who-knows-all’ omniscient fan! You are obviously not omnipresent to accuse me of that. I am like you, a passionate, concern fan who is reacting to the events here. The topic I brought up is solely for the purpose of enticing opinions of Man Utd fans regarding this, however ‘attention grabbing’ the title of thread it may seem.

Your accusation of ’self-defeating paradox’ does not apply here.

dispite your waffle, you still want Kenyon out, for reasons that only seem to relate to us not signing ronnie. Most level headed fans realize he was not worth the money and are happy enough with the situation.

There is a segment of united fans that insist that we must sign a 'world class' player. The only reason they want to do this is simply because we can afford it. The truth is that the likes of solksjaer, Irwin, Sharpe, Kanchelskis, sherringham, Cantona etc all cost under 5 mil and ended up being fantastic team players. Veron on the other hand has done nothing and has cost us over half a million pounds per game so far.

Lets not waste money on 'big name' players just for the sake of it and lets not blame Kenyon for refusing to have the club held to ransom - he did his job professionally.

You fecking prick. What the feck do you know?. Clearly another johnny foreigner who is only a United fan so he looks cool to his mates.

For a start, Kenyon has signed RVN, Ferdinand, Veron, Forlan and many more. Bet you weren't complaining when they signed. He is by far the best CEO we have ever had. He communicate to the fans about everything and has backed the players and manager when they need it.

Also, United do not have any devine right to sign players. £22m is a lot of money on one player, especially in todays market. IMO that price was far to big a risk one someone with a partying reputation and who is by no means going to be a success in the PL.
