Manchester United 4:1 Melbourne Defeat (Fri 15th July, 11:05 UK time)

Whenever I watch Maguire, I feel like it's on slow motion replay. Worrying, Martinez isn't known for his pace.

You have some people wondering why we signed a CB

Martinez is pretty slow himself. He's a lot better than Maguire or Lindelof on the ball, but a bit of a worry that we'll be trying a high line this season with three slow CBs and a perma-crocked Varane!

Where’s the new style of play?
Where’s the high tempo pressing?

This is the same team and same patterns of play as last season, struggling to play out from the back and just playing the ball around between the defence and midfield.
They did it against Liverpool, now they are done with it for the rest of the season.

I'm confused... Is this a Champions League second leg away? Not on Melbourne Victory player in our half when we have the ball. It's a friendly, experiment with things.

Love hearing Ten Hag screaming his lungs out on the sideline. Already about to lose his mind with this bunch. Beat Liverpool in a friendly and they think they made it

Playing against deep lying packed defence really calls a team technical ability and movement to pull defenders out of their positions, our players just lack that ability and no amount of coaching from ETH is going to change that!

He is not slow at all. He is pacy enough just not rapid

Looks like we've reverted to our old ways here. Good test playing against a team sitting in and parking the bus.

His pace isn’t comparable to Maguire/Lindelof.

It is still early days. Ten Hag will need more than one and a quarter of pre-season games. I love the fact he is trying to get into the game from the sidelines.

Lots of possession but no shots, poor defence on their counter attack goal
Appreciate it.

Sounds like a typical United performance against a park-the-bus team.

I'm glad this is happening here. Ten Hag will be seeing first hand what the big issues are.

Would've been a disaster if we'd breezed through preseason looking like a new team, only to default to this setting once the season started properly.

Actually that's exactly why we brought ETH.

That's what I'm noticing so far, Mctominay hiding and doesn't want to receive the ball from the defenders. Fred is the only midfielder trying to play forward passes, some bad touches from Martial and Bruno have given it away far too often.

Ten Hag, Ten Hag, what you gonna do? We're not bringing a centre midfielder for you

Stuck with MacTee and Fred, how's your day ayyeeee

This is a required reality check after Liverpool. You can see why we’re so desperate for FdJ & where Eriksen will be useful.
