We haven’t been terrible, but plays in the Newcastle end of the pitch could’ve been a lot better. Mishit passes and crosses were frustrating.

Poor first half, although slightly better towards the end. There should be plenty of chances to score on the counter against this lot. But players should be fined for slowing down the attack by passing backwards or standing still.

They are also winning almost all aerial duels, so lets stop with the high crosses (we aren’t even good at them).

Rashford must come on quickly in the second half. Even if he is not fully fit, he is still better than Ronaldo. Even in a wheelchair he will be better. You might not have thought that last season.

Have to question ten hag coaching as all I still see us doing is forcing the play too much, long aimless goal kicks, route one hopeful long balls from our defenders that nobody latches onto and goes straight to the feet of the opposition defenders/goalkeeper, our midfielder/wingers try to play the killer ball without trying to build the play up.

Is this what ten hag is all about because it's poor and frustrating to watch.
That's what the current group is capable of.

Apart from set pieces we look solid in defense, playing nicely out the back. Haven't given Newcastle much of a look in. Guimaraes isn't in the game. Problem as usual this season is out inept attack. Both flanks don't do what they were bought for, namely beating their man. Ronaldo is finished and Fred for all his effort just lacks the technique. Bruno does all he can, I will never fault his effort.
Until we have a regular forward who can do the basics right we are going to struggle to break teams down. Ronaldo has never been that player, and he is also past it. We have one and he’s a crock so can’t rely on him. Martial is unselfish and brings out the best in players around him with link up play.

Just had a quick look at the stats,

Cas 65% pass completion, Ronaldo 54%, but the hilarious stat that stands out is Callum Wilson 0% competition, 0/1 passes, Varane and Lisandro are dominating him.

Our final third play has been so poor; crosses too high, passes too short and shooting for rugby posts! Not sure any subs can improve in this department so it's a case of hoping Newcastle don't score!

Im still not sure about Ten Hag, but it’s obvious we’re not going to be able to consistently play how he wants to until we get better players. After the way Ole set us up we need someone like Ten Hag to replace large parts of the squad, I just hope he’s brave enough to make big decisions and let go of players that are fan favourites.

It's irrelevant. He shouldn't play for the club.

In fact should have been sold after 6-18 months by any club with sense

    Abysmal 1st half.
    Ronaldo and Fred are terrible.
Ten Hag said Mainoo and Iqbal are on the bench not to get experience but to help the team so lets bring one of them on , cant be worse than Fred.

Hope to see a much improved team in the 2nd half.

No the record has been an academy player in the match day squad every game since 1937, not the starting lineup
Definitely not. I think what he was trying to allude to was an academy player being in the squad, that’s the decade-old one. Which remains in tact with both Iqbal and Mainoo on the bench. And Elanga. And Rashford. And maybe even Heaton(?)
That makes more sense. Would like to see a couple of those academy players though besides Rashford coming on soon. Iqbal mainly. But Mainoo and Garnacho too. @Adnan I've been getting up to speed with Mainoo, looks a lovely prospect.

I’m surprised people are saying we’ve been shit. We have not. Players like Fred and Dalot maybe but overall our team play has been good.
We have. For what we are trying to achieve, we really have. None of the playing patterns, one two's are anywhere in sight. Its far too end to end, that's not supposed to be the case with ETH. We've gone from crowding our midfield with our cm's and inverted full backs to how we played under Ole simply by giving Fred time in central midfield. It's a problem.

 are we going to do this everytime someone tries for Ronaldo over someone else?
I always get the feeling the players try to get the ball to Ronaldo when there's better options, but when he is indeed the best option, they don't do it. Just weird decision making all around.

Why does every through ball or cross have to be for Ronaldo? There’s plenty others in better positions who are capable of scoring. It’s so infuriating.

So many negative posts on here. Who was expecting this to be an easy game? Newcastle have been in good form, we are still trying to find our own identity and are missing our most important player in Eriksen . We have improved in the last twenty minutes, just need to be more precise in the final third. A scrappy win will do it for me, as it is all that matters at this stage of the season.

That’s the way Newcastle plays. Go watch their game v City and they made a Pep team do exactly this

Has done very little of importance and Rashford is best on the left, connects better with Shaw who is playing well.
The only two half chances we had were created by him. Better take of Ronaldo and put Rashford in the center.
