It's not a shocking decision. It's the right decision. The backlash would have damaged the reputation of the club. He only has himself to blameShocking decision! Such a waste!

Best, Giggs, Ronaldo etc
Fans still cheer them.
You seem to have missed out this bit:Only this United board could do the right thing and yet say the wrong thing about it.
It's correct he has been effectively sacked as i don't think any sane person could stomach seeing him in a United shirt again.
However to basically then say he didn't do anything and have him back it up in his own statement that he didn't do what we clearly saw and heard is very wrong.
Still at least he's gone and that's one circus we don't have to worry about
She leaked all the pics of her with busted lip / bruises etc.. She had only one goal there (if it didnt happen), make it out like he was beating her up. Im assuming she done it late one night with a drink in her and instantly regretted it as i think she tried to delete, but damage was done.I mean, to be fair, the only thing she did was post that story saying “look what he does to me”. Something her father said she regrets doing, soon after this. The audio was leaked to the media, supposedly, not by the victim, and she did not officially press charges, as far as I know.
Everyone will have their opinion, but if CPS and club are sighting evidence not in the public domain, then I'm going to go with that to be honest
"Based on the evidence available to us, we have concluded that the material posted online did not provide a full picture and that Mason did not commit the offences in respect of which he was originally charged"
Not sure this bit was necessary, but they came to the right decision overall in the end.
Another distraction put to bed finally.
Also the state of some of the posters in this thread. At least it's a handy way of topping up the ignore filter for the future.
Get this straight - even if he is innocent in the eyes of the law, no-one owes him a job. He fecked up enough to never represent United ever again, and that's United's decision as his employer to make. They're not sending him to jail or forcing him to never play football again. He did enough to get sacked, and they've been far more supportive than they had any need to be - damaging their own reputation heavily in the process.
Stop making out like is a victim and politicising the issue.
You seem to have missed out this bit:
In a statement in February, the CPS said: "In this case a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction."
We don't know what this is and never will but I do know everyone was saying Mendy was guilty from day one but two juries disagreed. We do not know anything like the full story and the evidence was never testing in court - and wasn't strong enough to put to a court
Why is then the club saying this? Wouldn't the statement be much easier without it? They're basically siding with Greenwood. "Based on the evidence available to us, we have concluded that the material posted online did not provide a full picture and that Mason did not commit the offences in respect of which he was originally charged".A case being dropped doesn't mean that the alleged perpetrator is cleared or that justice determined that he didn't commit the alleged actions. I said it in the Mendy thread and apparently it needs to be said again since some of the quotes are misleading.
They just said he didn't do what he was accused of? How is that his fault? It's masons fault, not uniteds.
I will forever remember the abuse this boy and his partner received from you vigilantes, as well as cowardly decision from the board. Go away from this toxic fanbase and become the best striker in the world, Mason.
There's nothing confusing about it. He will be either sold or mutually terminate the contract.
You think the majority of United fans post on internet forums & subscribe to The Athletic or are you extrapolating the views of the extreme section that spends days/weeks typing away on their keyboards like we all do on here? The right decision was reached in the end and, based on polling on this forum and other United forums and publications, it is a decision that is supported by the majority of United fans. Time to move on.
If we didn't let him play for us he'll never play in the prem again, so I'm not sure where this comes from.Watch him sign for our rivals and become a world class performer.
We all heard the tape and saw the pics. I dont care what cock and bull story that he and his girlfriend made up after the fact to help clear his name. He did what he was accused of and had she not dropped the charges, i'm sure he would have been found guilty. We all heard him forcing himself on her when she told him to stop. We all saw the pictures.....
Of course, it is her prerogative to stick with him regardless of what he did to her, but you have to wonder, if the money, fame, lifestyle and pressure from family was not there, would she have continued with the charges?
The club have botched the process, but they have come to the right conclusion in the end.
I don’t know why you have to say that. We don’t even know what the hell happened. On the balance of speculation he might have behaved idiotically at times but, quite possibly, it is not as bad as it’s been made out. A large contingent on here have been acting judge, jury and executioner without any of the facts. It’s pretty clear
Whether it’s a loan now transfer later
Or transfer now
Or terminate contract
Which ever it is he won’t be playing for us again
he’s an absolute idiot
If we didn't let him play for us he'll never play in the prem again, so I'm not sure where this comes from.
Imagine the backlash if he joins City or Arsenal when we just ditched him because of what happened. Grow up....
That's fair enough but why the Heck United is putting it out there Greenwood didn't commit the acts he was accused of .

Higher standards in the UK?The correct decision.
Can see him heading to Saudi or Turkey.
His career in the UK is over.
The club cannot do that, it has to come from her
Very sad.Pretty much, I think this is actually very sad
The club probably wanted to sweep it under the rug and not have to replace him. There should never have been any stupid half-baked club-led enquiry into his guilt in the first place.
Tell Greenwood he brought the club into disrepute so can either go out on a season loan or be sold. All Arnold and co should have done.
It’s difficult to ever gauge the majority opinion, but anecdotally all my United supporting mates who are local and attend matches told me they’d stop if he came back into the team. You think the majority of United fans post on internet forums & subscribe to The Athletic or are you extrapolating the views of the extreme section that spends days/weeks typing away on their keyboards like we all do on here?

they basically admit that they didn't think Greenwood was wrong but they cave to public pressure to let him go. Bunch of idiots
Absolutely correct. The only outcome. Him staying will distract the club's goals this season. Greenwood would be a bigger distraction to the squad than Ronaldo last season.
