Max Kilman

Seems a promising player but honestly do we really need more promising players? we need a ready made CB.

I don't think Kilman is going to want to join at this point and be benched.

Is he good? At actual defending? I'm somewhat suspicious. Still, I suppose Wolves' defence is good at least so he mustn't be too awful.

Is his contract up in the summer? Or has he got a sell clause? Otherwise he’d cost a lot more than £8.1m. England call up must be close.

He is contracted until 2026. Which he signed in November 2021.

I think they've taken the value from Transfermarkt website.

Wolves would be after a Wan Bissaka like fee.

I think we need more players in his age bracket, all our CBs are in their primes between 27-29. Signing more ready made CBs will just mean we have to replace 4 CBs at the same time when they hit their 30s.

CB's usually peak towards their 30's anyway. I don't see the need for having a young 'learning' CB.

That's the position you can't afford to make mistakes in.

Why wouldn't we? All our rivals have young CBs. Liverpool have Konate, Chelsea have Sarr and Chalobah, City have Dias, Tottenham have Romero and Rodon, Arsenal have White and Gabriel.

It's really bad planning that we find ourselves with a load of centre halves approaching their 30s, our youngest being 27.

Do we? I think we already have 3 good CB. Our issue in defence is mostly from Midfield.

This will be mostly for replacing Eric

He's an ex England futsal international so I guess his passing, speed and agility with the ball is the attraction, assuming there's any truth in it.
Interesting. I think, is it Ben Yedder? Has a similar background

Yep. 'under the radar' as per the article in the OP - yeah right! A good £35-40m at least they'd hold out for.

At CB, probably.

Our first choice options currently are 28, 28 and 27. Meanwhile our backup options are 27 and 29. That's a lot of CBs in the same age bracket. Bringing in a younger player to replace one/some of them would help the squad make-up as you generally don't want all the players in a given position aging out at the same time.

If we get rid of Bailly and Jones it would make sense, but even then there's no real pathway for him to be a Starting XI defender with Varane, Maguire and Lindelof.

There's obviously nothing wrong with buying him at 24, but I just don't see it as a priority personally. IF we sell Bailly and Jones then sure, get him in as the 4th position.

All of those you mention apart from Sarr/Rodon/Konate are first team players so it's a bit different.

Is Kilman going to come in and displace either Maguire/Lindelof?

@sullydnl

As I said earlier, youth isn't important at CB. We had our most successful period with Vidic and Ferdinand in their 30's. Bruce and Pallister too.

They need to be fit and healthy obviously, then start bedding in younger players once they start struggling more.

I have no issue with having Kilman if we sell Jones/Bailly. The big issue is are we going to spend 30/40m on a player that'll be bench/rotation? I doubt it

I think we will get rid of Bailly and Jones in the summer almost certainly, possibly even Maguire if Ralf consultancy role is taken seriously. My personal opinion is that he doesn't rate him at all.
There is a room for young and promising CB, especially for this price.

I havent seen him a lot but he did stand out as a player who is very assured on the ball and well positioned. For a lower fee he'd at least be a good squad option. I think he can start in our XI too when he's on form, but haven't seen a huge amount to be fair.

Yeah, I agree.

All of them make mistakes regardless of their age.
Kilman is very inexperienced for his age, but does look a decent premier league defender. No idea how he’d take to playing for a big club.

He's always impressed me. Defends well but is very comfortable passing out from the back.

I like the idea of this one. Looks promising.

Realistically Maguire isn't going anywhere, but a few of the other CBs could. I think this guy is of a profile that he could come in and compete for a place but still get better without costing most of our budget. Not sure we can blow another huge sum in this area given other priorities.

Hard to tell if he's any good tbh, Saiss looks like a good defender in the Wolves set up. Good on the ball mind.

Is he press-proof?
How tall is he?
Will he make Maguire better?
Could we play him CDM instead?

Getting some of the big issues on the table early

He has played more non- league games than PL games. 24 years of age and only played 42 PL games. He would be a big gamble for the money they will want.

Left sided, so will give us a natural option to play the back 3 when needed or maybe we are just moving to a formation with a back 3.
