That is absolutely wild, so sorry that you and your family had to go through that experience. As you say, the morality of the press in the UK is shocking.
Sorry you had to go through that and really heartbreaking to see how the press behave.
Awful Stookie. :( Thoughts are with you and your family.
Sorry you all went through that, and like you say the press and the person who was going to sell the story get off pretty much scot free while the family/police get the ire for being pressured to reveal details themselves. Horrible.
Deepest condolences. Bunch of leeches.
Christ, so sorry y'all had to go through that as a family.
Thanks for the kind words fellas. Ironically, that piece of shit got out of prison just a couple of days ago. So we’re going through it all again. What I will say though is that if anyone on the caf goes though any kind of loss and they need to chat to someone, they’re always welcome to DM me. Richard McCann helped me and my mum through some dark times and I’d do the same for someone else.

It's coming on up 5 years next month since a friend drove out to the forest in Oregon and disappeared. His car was found months later covered in nature. His brother had to fly in from the east coast to empty his apartment. I think everything is still in a storage unit. Terribly sad. No one knows what happened.

Sounds about right. My sister was murdered by her boyfriend 16 years ago. The next morning the local press were at my mums door. Obviously they got told to do one. Then a couple of days later a popular UK magazine came calling wanting a story. My mum said no over and over for about 4 or 5 weeks. ‘Fair enough’ said the journo. About another week after he returned, mum said no again so he said ‘well it doesn’t matter, we’ve got our story’. He then proceeded to show us this story from a bloke who “knew” my sister in the pub we all used to frequent. Well it was full of shit as you can imagine, painted her in a real bad light which was a load of shite. So they were going to run with this. So we felt backed into a corner really and had to do one- a real one. So you can imagine how that went down locally…. Feckin hell they’ve sold their story blah blah blah. Well, any money made from it went towards a headstone amd my mum gave the rest to a charity called SAMM (support after murder and manslughter). The press are utter cnuts. Shameless. I know what this family are going through and why they’ve got ahead of the curve with their press release.
Fecking hell I'm sorry to hear that but thanks for sharing as it shows a different side to this type of situation and the crap their family must be going through.

That’s awful, I’m sorry that your family had to go through that @Stookie

a friends sister used to go out with a guy, she dumped him and he started seeing someone else. He asked his new gf if she’d like to go for a drive one day. During the drive he started putting on gloves which she found strange. He drove to a forest and cut her throat and left her. She survived because it has been snowing and it helped pack the wound. A farmer found her, barely alive. It took 4 people in the back of the ambulance, basically to hold her head on, he had sawn through her neck it was barely still attached. She survived by pure chance and the skill of those who helped her

From the third and fourth paragraphs it sounds like the police/family were made aware that someone was going to sell stories to the press about what Bulley was going through so they tried to get ahead of it with the police statement.
The amount of people who, like they always do, leapt on this to condemn the police about sharing personal info, rather than reading the entire article to see the horrendous situation the family have been put in by money seeking wankers is amazing.

Seen people saying it breaks journalists saying it breaks journalism standards - so many morons out there.

feck me mate, so sorry to hear this.

The press tactic it seems is to pretty much threaten you with bad press so you speak to them on the record.

I'm also sorry to hear what your family went through @Stookie. To have the press effectively threatening and coercing families at such a time of grief is disgusting.
It certainly shows how badly proper press regulation is needed then as now.

I live close to the area and hearing in the last hour that a body has been found in the river. Nothing confirmed at this stage but its pretty obvious the body is that of Nicola. RIP.

That expert / specialist diver is going to look like a right knobhead having been absolutely certain she wasn’t in the river and spoke in absolute terms if her body has been pulled from the river less than a mile from where she went missing.

Would have taken a nice pay cheque while doing so too.

Aye. That fella has a lot to answer for, in my opinion. He chose to make the story about him and his expertise. He put his credibility on the line and the ones that have suffered most by virtue of his grand pronouncements will have been her family.

There could of course have been foul play and she’s since been put in the river, if it is indeed her.

Regardless, I cannot fathom the pain her family have been put through. If this is the news we expect, I hope the closure bring them some peace.

It’s possible, but exceedingly unlikely, I’d say.

Wouldnt be that unlikely, as far as I can tell the body was spotted by someone on the river bank not a diver. Definitely somewhere a body could have been left.

If the body has been there the whole time it reflects pretty terribly on the search teams that it wasn't found sooner.

Not necessarily lads, if a river doesn’t want to give up a body search teams may miss it

when I was 16 an uncle of mine committed suicide by jumping in a local river. It was about 2 weeks before his body was found too, despite being searched everyday

I mean there’s been police and media throughout that area since the report.

Would be highly unlikely someone has turned up with a body and dumped it in the same river. It would also be a stupid thing to do if you’d killed somebody. Dumping the body exactly where everyone is looking.

As @golden_blunder says searching water isn’t easy as this specialist non police dive team can probably testify.

Anyway let’s see what happens.

In a crime scene hotspot, I’d highly doubt someone is going to be capable of moving a body around in such a manor.

It initially doesn’t reflect well on the Dive team, but even then none of us were there or know the ins and outs of what’s actually happened during the search parties operation

Tragically atleast the family will have their loved ones body back, but closure imo could only really occur upon understanding what the hell actually happened.

The family will be going through hell and I can’t imagine it.

Sorry to hear about your sister but the media can be relentless. They don't give a shit about anyone's suffering. All they care about is getting that story.

Exactly this. It was probably there the whole time but submerged. Such a sad story. I'm hoping her children are begin sheltered from most of it.

Do we think she fell into the river? I haven't read much about the disappearance

Isn’t the assumption, as Geebs says below, that the body has surfaced and ended up making its way onto the bank?

It was always going to be as simple as she fell in and they haven’t found her yet. I was skeptical when that diver said she’s definitely not in there.

I remember a podcast about a guy who went missing near a lake once. They had divers search the whole lake and said he wasn’t there. A year later something floated up to the surface and they searched again and found him.

Some mental gymnastics going on in this thread. Apparently, her murderers decided there was too much heat on the case so they dumped her body in the river where nobody would think to look.

Interesting that you use plural “murderers”. Nobody has said there was more than one.

Should have flown in ‘Adventures with a purpose’ from YouTube. They solve missing person cases quite quickly with their underwater technology
