Have a player/manager in mind - past or present - which impressive list of clubs and/or trophies on his CV you for the life of you can't understand, given his ability? This is the thread to voice it.

I'll go first:

Club-wise: Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting - His last two clubs being PSG and Bayern is just... how? Is he playing for free?

Trophy-wise: Benjamin Mendy - Is soon in possession of his third PL medal (played 361 minutes for the first one, 900 for his second, and this season he's clocked 506 minutes), one League Cup medal, and a World Cup gold medal (played 40 minutes the whole tournament - in the last Group-stage game where France was through) - plus his Ligue 1 title with Monaco (probably the only trophy he actually had a vital role in winning). All while he's still only 26. He's been unlucky with injuries, but extraordinarily lucky with his teammates and his CV shows it.

I'll add Ricardo Quaresma.

Barcelona, Inter, Chelsea on his CV.

Won Serie A, a Champion's League and the European Championship.

Found his level in Portugal and subsequently Turkey.

Basically retired in 2012 when he went to play in the UAE.

Still playing in a European top division at 37.

A lot of players who played under Fergie.

Nicky Butt and Phil Neville have six Premier League titles each. Wes Brown and John O'Shea have five.

He even has two CLs - having played three and a half of our group games in our treble season

Roberto Di Matteo and his FA Cup / Champions League double. Last seen winning 1 in 12 for Villa five years ago.

Avram Grant being a Champions League finalist and a penalty kick from winning it, and a single league win from winning the league in the same year.

Steve McClaren being involved in arguably the best SAF-Utd period, league cup with Boro, Eredivisie winner with Twente of all teams... yet never really rated and not even looked at anymore.

He’s not a bad player by any stretch of the imagination but Jesus Navas’ CV is rather impressive relative to his abilities:

World Cup x1
Euros x1
Copa Del Rey 2x
Supercopa Espana x1
Europa League x3
UEFA Super Cup x1
Premier League x1
League Cup x3

Great shout! Wouldn't trust him over any random Vanarama National League striker in a 1v1 with the goalkeeper, yet he's played for Real Madrid x2, Juventus x2, Chelsea, and Atletico and won all that you've listed. Mindblowing.

Maxwell. Good, reliable player and all, but his trophy haul is ludicrous for a player of his quality. Very few players can match him.

Pegguy Arphexad is another. I always thought he had a name like a PES player or something, and his career doesn't seem real either. Won six trophies with Liverpool without stepping on the pitch. Played about as much football in his entire career as most players do in a single season.

Love Pinto - crazy nutter. Feel like he got more red cards sitting on the bench than most players do on the pitch.

While he's a great footballer, I think Kingsley Coman still overachieved considering he's just 24 years old (turning 25 in june).

for PSG
Ligue 1: 12/13, 13/14
Coupe de la Ligue: 13/14
Trophée des Champions: 13

for Juventus
Serie A: 14/15, 15/16
Coppa Italia: 14/15
Supercoppa Italiana: 15

for Bayern
Bundesliga: 15/16, 16/17, 17/18, 18/19, 19/20
DFB-Pokal: 15/16, 18/19, 19/20
DFL Supercup: 16, 17, 18, 20
UEFA CL: 19/20
FIFA club worldcup: 20

He won the league 9 times in a row on a ratio higher than 1 title/year since he technically won it with Juventus and Bayern in their respective leagues in 15/16. While it's only logical since he's played for every dominating league giant (which is also some kind of achievement) that he'd earn a lot of silverware, it's still quite impressive imo. Having added the CL title and scoring the deciding goal in the final also adds, I'd say. The funny thing about him is that at least for Bayern he has not always been the great player he is at the moment/in the last 18 months maybe - he was extremely inconsistent at times and suffered from injuries which also affected his mindset on whether he should continue to pursue a professionall carreer as a footballer. All in all, he's great at the moment but his performances since 12/13 can by no means reflect the consistency of his titles.

Club-wise: Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting - His last two clubs being PSG and Bayern is just... how? Is he playing for free?
Tuchel gave him his professional debut at Mainz when both started their Bundesliga career, so he knew him well (especially his character). Allegedly he is quite happy as a squad player at a top club and does not create any trouble when sitting on the bench. While not being world class this was obviously major part of Tuchels considerations when getting him as a backup for the likes of Neymar or Mbappe who expect to always play when fit.

And when he proved that he is valuable in such a role at PSG Bayern had little to no risk to employ him in the same role as a Lewandowski backup

He is to Zlatan what Irwin is to Keane.

Marc Albrighton has a PL winners medal... Gerard and Carragher don't

i think misunderstands the notion of a squad game and Fergies genius in having the right players of the riqht calibre and probably even more importantly the right mentality to act as squad players and step in when required, without it having negative consequences for the team. which is why they won so many league titles. If at the same time, Liverpool had squad players the ilk of Wes Brown, Phil Neville, OShea and Butt i would imagine they may have broken their duck sooner, or if wenger had them, he might have won a few more league titles.

They all did the job brilliantly, I certainly don't contest that, but I don't think if they'd come through any other club's youth system they would've won anything, so I do think they are flattered.

i dont see how they if they did their jobs brilliantly they can be 'flattered' with the success acheived at the same time. Their jobs were very important and contributed to fergies success. Other teams had superstar players, what they didnt have was the man management and nous of fergie to get 'average' players to perform with the superstars when it mattered. its arguable that they werent average anyway, the likes of Butt were highly rated in their own right (Peles bestest player of the world cup ever) and wouldve probably been even bigger names elsewhere with more playing time. You only have to look at how Johhny Evans is still one of the best CBs in the prem league.

FA Cup x 1 - 2018-19
League Cup x 3 - 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20

He played a key role in the last League Cup win but picked up most of those trophies with limited minutes.
