i dont see how they if they did their jobs brilliantly they can be 'flattered' with the success acheived at the same time. Their jobs were very important and contributed to fergies success. Other teams had superstar players, what they didnt have was the man management and nous of fergie to get 'average' players to perform with the superstars when it mattered. its arguable that they werent average anyway, the likes of Butt were highly rated in their own right (Peles bestest player of the world cup ever) and wouldve probably been even bigger names elsewhere with more playing time. You only have to look at how Johhny Evans is still one of the best CBs in the prem league.

I'd forgotten about that.

The legendary Carlos Kaiser. He "played" in Botafogo, Ajaccio, Fluminense, Vasco de Gama, Flamengo.
He even won Copa Libertadores! (not)

Grosso. A very run of the mill Serie A leftback at 28. Nothing special about him. Never played for a big team.

Then scores THAT goal and the winning WC pen.

Now has a World Cup, 2 serie A titles (1 with Inter, 1 with Juventus in which he played 2 games), a Ligue 1 title and a Coupe de France.

I'd forgotten about that.
he did seem to morph into an IF version of himself for a few games....

Now if you'd mentioned David May in your list, you'd have total agreement with me. His contribution to Utds success consists of 1 photobomb. and thats it.

Phil Foden aged 19

Premier League x 2 - 2017-18, 2018-19
FA Cup x 1 - 2018-19
League Cup x 3 - 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20

He played a key role in the last League Cup win but picked up most of those trophies with limited minutes.
That's cheating.

Also, not quite sure he belongs here but the player with the most amazing cv never to win a single senior cap for his country has got to be Filippo Galli.

Danilo - 1 la liga, 2 CL titles, 2 premier league titles, 1 serie A amongst others
Danilo

2 x Premier League
1 x Serie A
1 x La Liga
2 x UEFA Champions League
1 x FIFA Club World Cup
1 x Copa Libertadores
This. His agent must be the greatest in the world, how the feck has he played in such top clubs being so shite?
In his defense, he has been superb this season as a hybrid CB/FB and even DM after a mediocre first season. It's as if he finally fulfilled his potential.

I find it less weird if they’re at the same club and a lot stranger when they keep getting big transfers like Morata.

While he's a great footballer, I think Kingsley Coman still overachieved considering he's just 24 years old (turning 25 in june).

for PSG
Ligue 1: 12/13, 13/14
Coupe de la Ligue: 13/14
Trophée des Champions: 13

for Juventus
Serie A: 14/15, 15/16
Coppa Italia: 14/15
Supercoppa Italiana: 15

for Bayern
Bundesliga: 15/16, 16/17, 17/18, 18/19, 19/20
DFB-Pokal: 15/16, 18/19, 19/20
DFL Supercup: 16, 17, 18, 20
UEFA CL: 19/20
FIFA club worldcup: 20

He won the league 9 times in a row on a ratio higher than 1 title/year since he technically won it with Juventus and Bayern in their respective leagues in 15/16. While it's only logical since he's played for every dominating league giant (which is also some kind of achievement) that he'd earn a lot of silverware, it's still quite impressive imo. Having added the CL title and scoring the deciding goal in the final also adds, I'd say. The funny thing about him is that at least for Bayern he has not always been the great player he is at the moment/in the last 18 months maybe - he was extremely inconsistent at times and suffered from injuries which also affected his mindset on whether he should continue to pursue a professionall carreer as a footballer. All in all, he's great at the moment but his performances since 12/13 can by no means reflect the consistency of his titles.
Came to say the same, has to be this guy.

I’ve never seen him play and rarely even hear of him, yet he has 9 league titles under his belt at 24!

while I think his cv is a bit inflated, I find it very surprising you have rarely heard of him. I mean he scored the deciding goal in a cl final.

Pegguy Arphexad is another. I always thought he had a name like a PES player or something, and his career doesn't seem real either. Won six trophies with Liverpool without stepping on the pitch. Played about as much football in his entire career as most players do in a single season.
This is who I thought of 1st

According to wiki. 39 games played in his career and has won

I’m only talking for myself, but he’s not a player thats often heard about here. He doesn’t score much, he’s hardly a superstar and never has been. Maybe others here might disagree?

Morata. Bang average.

About the level of Chris wood at Burnley but he's played for Madrid, Atletico, Chelsea and Juve, winning 2 Champions Leagues, 2 La Ligas, 2 Serie As, 2 Copa del reys, 2 Coppa Italias, UEFA super cup, FIFA world cup, and 1 FA cup.

No one called Coman a superstar but he is a regular starter at Bayern and his goal won them the CL. That’s why it is a bit strange that you claim that you haven’t seen him and call his CV overrated.

They all did the job brilliantly, I certainly don't contest that, but I don't think if they'd come through any other club's youth system they would've won anything, so I do think they are flattered.
Brown would likely have found his way to a top club somewhere, possibly even SAF would have signed him at some point. Immensely talented defender. The others may have gone on to become regulars at midtable clubs with the odd top four and domestic cup challenge. Butt was quite good early, regular starter alongside Keane. Phil was always a serviceable backup and occasional starter. I think O'Shea would have drawn interest as well after breaking through at another club.

This has got to be up there because of the spread and the WC win.

It is one thing to be a 2nd/3rd choice GK or some sort of squad utility player for a great team and get to ride along. It is a complete another level, when you start winning multiple league titles in different high level countries and WC's as well. Danilo is another good shout and so it Maxwell.

I’m not sure why you think Bayern’s starting lineup is ever in the news here.

9 league titles at the age of 24 is unheard of, inflated is an understatement.

Some players you could say have partially flattering careers. I think flattering would mean that they barely played or were just sort of there to fill up numbers. A lot of second goalkeepers could probably be listed here.

Brown played every knock out match in 07/08 and created our only goal in the final. But you could say the first CL was flattering for him, though.

Foden has a PL for 17/18 and 18/19, where he didn't really participate much either. So, you could say the start of his career is a bit flattering.

Okay then. I was under the impression that most on this forum watch the CL. In any case: yes, Coman‘s trophy haul is flattering (imagine he wouldn’t have been injured for the World Cup...) especially since he didn’t do anything noteworthy at either PSG or Juve. Still, the statement „have never seen him play“ is still strange in my opinion since this is down to you not watching and not to him not playing.

Sure, but again there’s plenty of different Champions League matches and teams to choose to watch in every round. A minority would watch, let alone take much notice of, a single player, from a German team, in the champions league, in England.

I think you might have an inflated idea of how much German football is on here too. Especially in comparison to how much the Premiership is shown there, or everywhere else in the world for that matter.

I stand by never having watched Kingsley Coman play in my life, and other than being made aware of his inflated cv recently by my son, rarely have I even heard him mentioned in football.

First one to come to mind is Dida. Bang average goal keeper but being the first choice keeper for Brazil and AC Milan, winning a World Cup, a Copa, a Serie A and 2 Champion Leagues
