Even if we lose v Leicester we still have a 40-45% chance of qualifying for the UCL, which isn't the be-all and end-all either way.

You really think Wolves are favorites vs Chelsea? Although Chelsea might play for a draw so I guess it is like being a goal up for them.

It's the chance of wolves winning (x=20-23%) combined with the chance of us winning the Europa (y=~25%). Calculated from the betting odds which isn't perfect but more accurate than most. [1-(1-x)*(1-y)]

The most important match is always the match that's in front of you. You have to respect each match as it's own in isolation and do your best to win. You're not always going to win, but that's the mentality you have to have and put in to each and every match. Be ready to take the best shot from your opponent and hurt them back.

Alright I thought you gave those odds for a Wolves win over Chelsea. 25% is not that bad odds on us getting a Europa league win.

If we lose this is the quarter final of the Europa league the most important game since 2008? Continuing on until the final ?

Its the most important game of this season. I wouldn't go any further than that.

If you ignore the fact we played in the final of that only a few years ago when both the EL trophy and our CL qualification was on the line.

Agreed. If we lose we should cancel the club

I’ll argue that this is the most important match in the OGS tenure.

And while its become a meme at this point, it’s a legitimate test for OGS. It is a cup final simulation where the stakes and pressure are high and the team is in a form of a slump.

It’s probably the most important since we last finished in the top four, CL is important for this club, as it is for all top clubs.

However I do tend to agree that Sunday is somewhat of a make or break moment certainly under Ole.

In my opinion we’ve made the biggest and most positive steps back to being the club I love during Ole’s tenure. Sunday is the biggest game under Ole and it means more than a lot of other similar moments for that reason (to me at least.)

Ultimately because we are starting to find an identity and many of the positives with the squad and our talent and youth will be hindered by losing out on CL. A loss of momentum at the minimum.

I honestly feel we are at a point that could make or break the next 2-3 years. I’ve mentioned it other threads regarding transfers and it’s why I am desperate for Ed to get the major signings we need to mount a challenge next season.

If we lose I think we’ll win the Europa League next month.

Can play reserves vs LASK. Then best team has 2 weeks rest to then win 3 winnable matches

I hate this trend where every match is the most important of all time, every signing is potentially the biggest ever, and every single event is a historic turning point.

It's just a game of football. Yeah, missing out on the CL would suck but that won't be certain until we get knocked out of the EL as well. And even if we finish 5th and fail in the EL, life and football will go on.
This might be the most important sensible post ever. Without this post the entire caf could have melted down. It may well have been a historic turning point in this thread.

It's extremely important for Ole. If we don't get top four I think he'll stay but in turn we won't get the calibre of players that we need without CL football. If that's the case he'll be a dead man walking going into next season before a ball is kicked. But ya, the thread title is fantastic hyperbole.

It’s our most important game since the FA Cup final two years ago. Which was our most important game since the Europa league final the year before.

It's Ole's most important game.

We've literally played in UCL finals and title deciders after 2008.

Let's not over-exaggerate now.

This thread tells you a lot about the current standards of the club and some of it's supporters right now. To think qualifying for top 4 is even anywhere close to being in the same ballpark as playing in a Champions League final is ridiculous.

Most important game since the Europa league final of 2017 as if United lost that final there would be no champions league football the following season.

It’s definitely our the most important game this season though. It’s cup final for both team. Leicester in shite form but they are playing at home. We have been great in great form this year, but our performance level have drop drastically in recent few games, our players are all tired and we are playing away from home.

The best result is a draw and Chelsea lose - then Chelsea aren't in Europe but we still are.

For me, top 4 finish would mean:
- CL football next season
- key play like Pogba may be convinced to commit his long term future here
- likely to sign Sancho
- financial side of it, would means we may have more funds to buy
- more likely to challenge for title next season

Fail to finish top 4:
- no CL football next season
- key players may want to leave, as we have been missing CL football so many times already, enough is enough
- Sancho may not come
- less fund to buy
- less likely to challenge for title next season

Considering that we can lose this match and still get CL next season if other results go our way I would hardly proclaim this match to be sooo important.
We shouldn't rely on Wolves getting a win against Chelsea. That's a stupid way to think. The focus should be on getting a win or at worse a draw against leceister.

I never said we should rely on Wolves, i simply used that as a point on how hyperbole it is to proclaim this as the most important match since the '08 CL Final.

If there's a chance that we can lose but still go through then this match didn't matter at all.

We will however get a result, I'm sure.

Just another Premier League game as those previous 37.

However it goes, we have taken huge steps forward this year and if we continiue and keep doing that we will be just fine in future.

It's the biggest game in football ever. I think we should retire the shirt numbers of every player that plays in it.

I mean... it's all on the line on Sunday.

Yes, we've won big trophies since then. In fact, every other trophy available to us, other than CL. But I can't shake the feeling that we are at an inflection point. All of the decisions (Ole), squad development strategy (young vs. old/established) and our future, is riding on Sunday's match.

Leicester will have 7 days rest. We will have three.

We have an injured LB, an exhausted starting 11, a calamitous keeper, and two, maybe three relatively trustworthy squad players (McT, Fred & Ighalo).

The biggest transfer target in the history of the club -- Sancho -- is watching this all play out, potentially influencing his final decision.

A club legend but an unproven manager, who won big matches for the club as a player, his future is potentially at stake.

The board will be watching, deciding the direction of the club, the transfer kitty....

In the middle of a pandemic and an economic depression, before potentially the most important political election in 100 years.

God, I hate 2020.
This should be read with that movie trailer voice.

Seriously though, it's important but not that dramatically important.

It resembles our match vs City in 2012. We needed a draw there too.

But in terms of history, surely the European Finals (2009, 2011, 2017) were far more important.
