David Moyes has Alan Stubbs, David Weir and Duncan Ferguson as his staffs at everton. i'm sure that's because of the everton connection. he will continue doing that at united with ex united players this time. one of the main reason why fergei went for moyes is because they are on the same page with these kind of appointments.

Think the one at risk is Muleshsteen, he runs the training sessions under Fergie, where as i think Moyes is pretty much hands on in that aspect.

Muelensteen shouldn't be under threat at all. Training sessions at Manchester United and those at Everton won't be the same and Moyes and his coaches don't have European experience which is imperative at a club like this. This will be a steep learning curve for Moyes especially the first couple of seasons. He could do with our experienced coaches around.

Perhaps that will give Rene more time to do what he does best; work with younger players. He's such a resource that I can't see him leaving unless he wants to try his hand at management again.

‘And, yes, there will be a role for people like Ryan. That has already been established a while ago. The planning has been in place for a long time on that, to have Paul Scholes, Giggs and Nicky Butt as part of the coaching structure.’

That's excellent to hear. The more 'United' men we have at the club, the more likely IMO we are to keep that Manchester United mentality.

Would like to see Phil Neville join too. Not only does he know United inside out, he knows Moyes inside out. He could easily help Moyes settle and create that link. It's an absolutely perfect bit of business if we can get him in.

David Moyes tells Everton not to fear mass exodus to Manchester United
• Moyes rules out drastic changes to United coaching team
• 'It's difficult but continuity at every club is important'

David Moyes has indicated there will be no drastic changes to the coaching team at Manchester United, having revealed he expects continuity at Everton following his departure as manager.

Backroom staff at Old Trafford and Goodison Park are unsure about their futures as Moyes does not officially replace Sir Alex Ferguson until 1 July and has yet to decide on his first appointments as United manager. That process will commence next week, with Moyes's long-time coach Jimmy Lumsden, Everton's assistant manager Steve Round and their captain Phil Neville in contention for a move to Old Trafford, although the chairman, Bill Kenwright, has been told not to fear a mass exodus from Goodison.

Moyes said: "I haven't given any undertakings to Bill about not taking any back-room staff. My position is I am having to weigh up a lot of things right now. I have given indications to Bill about one or two things but I haven't said anything that would worry him right now.

"I have staff here at Everton and staff at Manchester United who are obviously looking for answers. I am in a bit of a difficult position at the moment but I have to completely respect Everton. I have a job to do preparing the team for the game on Sunday [at Chelsea] – after that it is less demanding. I have already prepared pre-season for Everton and that is all in place for whoever the new manager may be."

Moyes will take a holiday before his Everton contract expires and does not anticipate widespread change at Goodison once his 11-year tenure is over. The Scot has been consulted by Kenwright on his successor and does not believe a lack of management experience should count against an internal candidate, a stance that may help the claims of Neville, Round, David Weir, Alan Stubbs or Duncan Ferguson if they apply for the position.

"Continuity at every club is important," said Moyes. "You can't always just have a complete clean slate and start again.

"There are people here who have seen how I have worked, been involved in the meetings and seen how we recruit and could take the job on. Are they going to be successful Premier League managers? I don't know. The only way you find out is to give them an opportunity. In the same breath I do think that learning your trade is important as well. That is why the decision is not necessarily going to be someone from inside the building."
@vanthaman Losing Phelan wouldn't be expected to be a big loss to you, because the fact of the matter is us fans have no idea how crucial his role is in Carrington. I found it interesting that RvP thanked him personally during his award acceptance speech the other night. He might be a big loss to the lads.

I'm not so sure. Keeping the UTD spirit is one thing, but you need the best coaches around. It seems a bit unlikely that Scholes, Giggs and Butt all happened to turn out to be great coaches.
I agree, but I think as long as we mix them with top class coaches from the outside we'll be okay. Should they not be up to the tast, then I'm certain that they will be moved on.

David Moyes will hold talks with a number of Manchester United's coaching staff on Monday after starting work at his new club in an unofficial capacity.

It is understood the Scot will meet with goalkeeping coach Eric Steele and first-team coach Rene Meulensteen. He will also hold talks with others but does not plan to make drastic changes to United's existing backroom team.

Moyes took charge of his last Everton game on Sunday and does not officially replace Sir Alex Ferguson until 1 July. Ferguson, 71, announced in early May that he would be retiring at the end of the season following more than 26 years in charge at Manchester United. The Scot handpicked Moyes as his successor, and his fellow countryman is keen to give staff at Old Trafford, as well as Goodison Park, clarity about their future before they go on holiday.

Moyes' trusted first-team coach at Everton, Jimmy Lumsden, is the most likely to join him at United but there is no agreement that limits the amount of staff he can take with him. Once Moyes has finalised his coaching set-up, he plans to take a holiday before officially joining United in six weeks.

I'm only guessing but surely Moyes & co will get the Rooney issue sorted out before going away, for everyone's sake? Six weeks of uncertainty is too much for all concerned.

Great point.

I agree it is almost impossible for us to judge how good a member of our backroom staff really is. I think Phelan gets a bit of stick because of his appearance and those bloody shorts.

While it's difficult for us fans. I don't think it would be that big an issue to the club, staff and player.

They'd have their holidays, use it as a bit of time to think about the situation and go from there. It'd still leave another 6 weeks to sort the situation out.
