MUFC new transfer recruitment procedure

The only thing interesting about that article is that it was made by bad liars, whether it is the journalist or the club. Data on 804 rights backs.

If this is the system, then it's clearly rubbish. Awb and Maguire are signings which were so obvious that almost everyone in the forum was recommending them, with the only point of contention being the price. James was a giggs recommendation which ole agreed with.

So basically what the system did was make the obvious thing a more difficult task and cause undue delay.

This is why I think United are in deeper s*it than most people realise. Our club from top to bottom is more worried about image than having any genuine footballing ambition; that can only change with a radical makeover.

These puff pieces generated by Ed's trusted allies, actually underlines th serious problems that exist in the club. Sadly, in trying to suggest the Woody and Judge are blame free, it doesn't achieve that, with the outcome showing that for far too long people with little understanding of football have run th club.

This means we are at least 5 years away from challenging the top clubs, and no amount of nonsense relating to financial might will mean much as the club falls further into the area of irrelavance. They need to splash the cash as quickly as they can, but the indication from the article is that it's steady as you go , and trust us as we know what we are doing. The Glazers have done much the same with the Tampa Bay NFL side, so no need to buckle up for a bumpy ride, it's just a slow grind downhill.

As I am what most of the millenials call an old timer, obviously happy to be proved wrong, but the decline has been far too swift to recover in less than 5 years, and relegation is possible looking at the assembled roster and it's Lack of leaders so its a definite concern.

Not being funny but they could have employed someone from the caf in 2018 and they'd have thought of the same shortlist.

Also this bit is weird:

"So, the recruitment
Not being funny but they could have employed someone from the caf in 2018 and they'd have thought of the same shortlist.

Also this bit is weird:

"So, the recruitment department has the power to veto the manager if he wants to buy a player, as they did with Mourinho"

I thought Ed mentioned the manager has final say last week?
so with all that data at their disposal the tech guys vetoed Mourinho when he tried to buy Maguire for 60m

only to return a year later when we could spend 80m

how do we explain this.....software upgrade? :wenger:

So every summer the manager and co stand in front of this giant machine hidden somewhere in the dungeons of Old Trafford and then push a button. The machine makes a creaking sound before it starts its magnificent journey into the database of all the footballers of the world and then at the end it spits out 2-3 names.
A story straight from the Harry Potter - Goblet of Fire

I heard that the system will be updated on the 16th of next month

So this system has been in place since 2018, allowing Woodward to say "no" to Mourinho on signing Maguire, but then recommended signing him next year?

Riiiiggghhhttt....

Its had a firmware update. This one goes to 11

Dear Mr Woodwood, why not save the club tens of thousands of pounds a year and appoint me as chief transfer recruiter! I too spotted that AWB and Maguire were good defenders and was really impressed with the young James kid from Swansea when they played City.. worth a punt I thought!

What an absolute joke! When we start unearthing Kantes and Sons from lower clubs for modest fees then I’ll hale their success! At the minute Bob down my local pub could come up with the same transfer targets we have!

Its evident that at the time we were working on 16-17 version of Fm erm such complex software

I might be too skeptical, but there have been so much face saving attempts by the club to make sure things are 'fine' even though They're not.

Let's see.

804 right backs in the world.
But since our criteria are pretty much British and talented, that automatically put AWB on the top of the list. Add EPL proven as the criteria and only Wan-Bissaka ever had the chance to become ManUtd player.

Pointless scouting.

Our other targets : Daniel James, Sancho, Maguire, Longstaff. See the pattern? Yes! and We've only ever made a move once a player is well known. Again, pointless scouting.

Someone is just playing FM und downloaded that "database" from FM Scout ...

Great, so what have we been doing for the last 5 years?

Davie’s iPads managed to identify Fellaini. I’m sure it’s just a coincidence he used to play for our manager’s old team.

I’m pretty sure after that we used a tombola, as this is the only thing that can explain Fred.

I wonder what Ole asked for to land Wan-Bissaka, because he’s not exactly an attacking fullback, and you’d imagine that was high on Ole’s priority list.

Ah, so we've had a database of 800 right backs and still decided to sign the most obvious and known to everybody one, that's fantastic.

The most important part is this one though, in case anybody missed it:

In those final crucial meetings sit Jim Lawlor, who was Ferguson’s chief scout, Bout, Court, Solskjaer and Judge. Woodward isn’t present.

Just feck off Woodward you cnut, nobody's that fecking stupid anymore.

This is all BS rumour circulated by Woodward and co to cover their *** and to make the fans and investors to calm down and settle.

First - We will hire a DOF
Second - The leaked email from Woodward to United staffs
This is the third one.

The more we down in table, more lies will be spread by the incompetent Mr.ED.

Mou: I want maguire and fred
Woodward plays with his system and then
Mou: Well?
Woodward: you can get Fred as the system clearly state that he is perfect for us but not Maguire
MOu leaves, ole comes in
Ole: I want maguire
Woodward : system says he will be perfect for us. He will prove more expensive but oh well

Dont forget the presentation so staff knew exactly that woodward wasnt selecting the players.

He is such a snitch

If the scouting is so brilliant and the money not an issue why did we go into this season woefully short in central midfield, up front and with still no right winger!? Are there no players out there good enough for us!? Seems legit.

The problem here is that the same journos were reporting that we tried to sign Maguire in 2018, we didn't veto him, we simply failed to find an agreement with leicester and then briefed that we weren't interested anyway.

Also was it this foolproof software that decided to buy fred for 50m when jose didnt particulary want him

I don't see how a DoF fits into this really, Ole is performing the role you'd expect a DoF to play in such a setup, and given the positive start with regards to success of signings I can't see Woodward wanting to rock the boat.

Well, it doesn't work since the manager is supposed to have a veto. In my opinion they are all lying and trying to shift the blame to someone/something else. They all agreed to sign expensive subpar players and are now finding excuses.

1. Why did it take Woodward 4 years to establish a top of the line recruitment strategy/team? A good director of football would have brought that with him along with the ability to judge players with his eyes not just algorithms.

2. What amazing sophisticated algorithm churned out Fred's name?

3. If our new recruitment team is that amazing, why couldn't they find a no. 9 to replace Lukaku and a Right winger other than Manzdukic, Dybala and Sancho, names a 12 yr old who plays fifa can give you.

4. It's obvious to all that United desperately needs a proven DOF to oversee recruitment. Yet Woodward hasn't employed one. City would have bought a super computer instead of employing Tixki Begiristain if algorithms were sufficient to find good players. Where is the proactive approach in recruiting the best in class DOF, will that take another 4 years?

Should have had a list of a thousand strikers to pick from over the summer then and we didn't get one? No way Mandzukic comes top 3 in this mythic list.

Just a reminder, in the last 18 months a chief scout said that the manager and woodward didn't care about their suggestions, the manager said that the scouts and Woodward didn't listen to his suggestion and Woodward said that he doesn't suggest anything. They are all deflecting blame.

1) He had to fit a few holidays in and his general ‘preparation’ time. 4 years is about right for Ed.

2) Ed liked the name. It rhymed with Ed.

3) ‘Preparation’ time. The algorithm will play out by 2030

4) Ed’s computer is not quite as good as City’s (it’s a ZX81)

What a joke. 804 right backs. Yeah sure, only to land in the completely obvious premier league choice. Scouting at the club is a joke. Pay an extra 20 million a year later for Maguire. Brilliant.

The veto thing it's also trash if true. It means no one is in charge, which as we've seen in the past years no real accountability. This is how you end up shitting the bed with the Maguire transfer, getting fleeced and firing a manager over it in essence. What a way to run a club.

So we have spent 6 years building the scouting system from Football Manager?

This is the recruitment department. In those final crucial meetings sit Jim Lawlor, who was Ferguson’s chief scout, Bout, Court, Solskjaer and Judge. Woodward isn’t present. It is said Judge doesn’t offer any input on the quality of the players. His only role is as the initial interface with the agents.

 ok, we get it.

Pity theres no data on midfielders
club leaked the reason we didnt buy bruno in the summer was because he was too risky. In oles press conference he says we need players to take more risks and be brave. You couldnt make this stuff up

Always up for a redemption story. If Woodward had learned from his last meddling and they're actually serious about doing things in a structured way with football expertise , then great. I would rather see Woodward change and succeed than fail even more dramatically and leave. Devil you know over the angel you don't.

But if he's playing his same tricks that's a different matter...I fear that's the case of course
Agree with this, reason being I think he is the only guy who the Glazers listen to and under his watch we have spent unprecedented amounts of money on fees and wages for players. I'd imagine that if Woodward had started out with Ferguson instead of Moyes/Mourinho/Van Gaal we could have been more successful. But for him to stay he has to take a further step back and also review Judge's performance whilst bringing in a DOF and Head of Recruitment.

This sounds like him covering himself and denying any responsibility for the shambles we find ourselves in, though. Another interesting thing is the article's attempt at whitewashing Judge's involvement and influence over choices made.
