I think Liverpool are playing a bit naughty here. They noticed Lyon won't bulge on the price and they are spreading rumours on Fekir's medical condition to scare rivals away and drive the price down.

Wonder how Fekir feels about the fact that the leaks about his dodgy knee came from Liverpool's side in an attempt to drive the price down. Those who think he could still sign for them after the world cup should take into account this fact.

Ooo err.

The conduct of the club doesn't look particularly good from a distance. And not for the first time.
Basically just this. Liverpool have undoubtedly improved on the pitch and they're potentially a really good team but that's not even remotely the issue. They seem to have a few of these silly transfer shambles every so often and it's just really really weird.

Haha the narrative now being peddled, is ridiculous. It's not like they briefed the press, after the medical, a lower price than Lyon agreed to had been agreed. Now all of a sudden, when Lyon publicly rejected that - "oh well he's got a bum knee anyway, too much risk".

He's got a bad knee, but not a bad enough knee to fail a medical. So we'll take him for 10m less please. Do Liverpool think this is antique roadshow?

Because his knee isn’t right?

That is the line Liverpool are going with. The player was all set to sign, but Liverpool tried to lower the price after a medical and leaked to the press that a lower price was agreed. However, the Lyon president was having none of it.

He was originally going for £62m, but Liverpool tried to get him for £53m. I have no idea how someone can get a reduced price due to a bad knee but still pass a medical.

Don't quote me on this, but I've heard it's a cartilage issue, so he's most likely going to be fine for a while, and would pass any medical, but the idea of the long-term with him is now in question which is probably why they tried to lower the price. The way they went about it though was pretty ridiculous, especially to try and pull that against Aulas who doesn't play that game.

About a week or so ago so many on here were going all David Moyes saying we should aspire to be like Liverpool in the transfer window. No thanks.
Exactly, there was a mass meltdown over Fabinho deal.

It’s almost as much as a farce as cissohko failing his Milan medical because of his teeth.

So what is the issue here? Liverpool are well in their rights to try to negotiate the price down. Football is business at the end of the day.

They didn't even negotiate. They saw his 'bad knee' then went ahead with all the promotional work and leaked to the press that they were paying a lower fee. Meanwhile the Lyon president maintained that nothing had been decided. They tried to pull a fast one.

Nothing wrong in that, but the persistent leaks regarding his dodgy knee to bring the price down, plus the obviously deliberate leak of his LFC interview etc are what's wrong. Liverpool can't resist bragging about a big transfer and often end up shooting themselves in the foot. Or mouth.

To be perfectly fair, everyone praised them for their efficiency in the Fabinho transfer. Under the radar, quiet and well-timed as a PR strategy to deflect attention from the CL final and Karius. The Fekir and VvD sagas are more like a manual on how not to do things.

As some ppl mentioned, they have release information beforehand, leaked videos and pictures of him and rumours about his knee. Nothing wrong in that !!!

Liverpool being a shit house club again. After this and the way they treated Southampton when tapping up players, clubs should refuse the do business with them. They're the most hypocritical and pathetic club I've ever known. They'll be the first time to complain when another club goes after their players. fecking morons

Oh yeah:lol:. Best part about that was Miln never wanted to sign him in the first place, they just wanted to keep inter and juventus away and it got out of control

Three out of Liverpool's last four major signings/negotiations (Keita, van Dijk, Fabinho and Fekir) have been an absolute embarrassment for them. They offered Leipzig £10m more for a player they'd already agreed a price on just so he could move earlier, despite Leipzig insisting over and over again he wasn't going anywhere this season; they met with van Dijk and ran through tactical systems with him before his club even received a bid; they were pretty much the only club interested in Fabinho, hence the lack of feck-ups there, and now they've ballsed-up this Fekir deal, too.

They are a gift from God, these Scousers. I love them.

Yeah, it was a really bizarre scenario! I digress, but his Liverpool highlight reel is possibly the funniest thing I’ve ever seen. Look it up on YouTube if you can be bothered!

More unjustified green smileys directed at the storied Liverpool Football Club. I'm not having it. Any further unfounded laughter at the expense of the scouse will hopefully be met with censure from the general RedCafe population.

It is embarrassing because as always they started leaking the transfer details before hand . Then getting the player to give interview to their official channel and going full on PR with jersey reveal without actually being done with the medical and revelations behind it all the while leaking stories all over the internet . Then trying to show off how they got the player for lower price than being written around inspite of having settled for a higher price with Lyon. Thinking they can arm twist Lyon in to renegotiating using the medical report and then being told to get lost by Lyon since the whole process was insulting to Lyon as Liverpool tried to control the whole narrative as the big boss without taking Lyon into confidence . This is total shoddy work and arrogance on Liverpool's part forgetting how they have embarrassed themselves earlier with RB Leipzig and Southampton .

Liverpool fan and I agree with this.

This is what I feel about this failed transfer. No class whatsoever.
Compare it to the time that Ruud Van Nistelrooy damaged his knee and SAF did all he could to assure the player that we would be there to sign him once he had recovered.
There is a players livelihood involved behind all this and Liverpool have tainted Fekir with having a dodgy knee.

Who knows what the real story is but if his knee is ok now but might go poof at some point then why even try to lower a price, get away. What they tried to do with attempt of lowering the price for 10 mil. when you still placing 50 mil on the line.

Lets come in at 52m and take him, he’s a great player and could happily take the CAM spot

Between Southampton and now Lyon is it safe to assume Liverpool are worse at doing transfers than we are?
Have United ever come close to anything like that? I don't think we are bad at concluding deals.

Even Real got annoyed with their concussion PR and general whining after the CL final.

Honestly, their PR needs a revamp, they act like a 12 year old who whines when he can't get his way (CL final) or is unable to keep a secret without bragging about it (transfers).

I think maybe the Fabregas thing when we informed the media everytime we made a bid was a bit naive but it doesn't come close to this walking disaster of a PR nightmare known as Liverpool football club.

Not necessarily a transfer but I am honestly still scratching my head at which idiot authorized the Suarez shirt thing. Caught out for blatantly tapping up players. Then you have to laugh at their recent PR stunts to paint themselves as some transfer dons.
