Gaming Nintendo Switch

I don't think that's a great price unless they include a game with it.

£250 you could buy a Xbox or PS4 slim with two or three games. I know people are going to say Nintendo target a different audience. But who are they targeting? I mean the second screen can't have been expensive to make considering it's only a 720p screen.

£199 should mean it will cost around $250 or less right? If so I think it should sell very well at that price point in the US or so the analysts say

Everytime Pachter predicts something the opposite happens.

The £250 one does come with a game and more storage (according to the rumour).

It's the same price as the 4 year old WiiU. Not a bad price for a new bit of kit IMO.

Wait, what? The PS4 was just on sale for £150 with FIFA.

You can't pick up a WiiU brand new for under £230 anywhere mate. I've been looking to buy one and was hoping for a price drop.

Yeah, it's really strange that you can't get a Wii U for under that price. I'm going to assume there will be some Black Friday deals as companies try to rid of stock this year though, and again some Christmas and January sales are likely to occur. At the same time though, the console will probably become a bit of a relic as production of it is supposedly ending this month as they focus on the Switch. But still, I would have expected the Wii U to be at least £199 with a top game by now.

Wii U is a bit of a GameCube Mark II. If you actually look at how many games average a 9/10 in reviews, you'll be surprised. There are some absolutely glorious games on those two machines despite them only selling about 45million units between them.

It's why I'm really disappointed that the switch won't be backwards compatible. If I don't buy a wii u I'm going to miss out on some quality games.

I'm guessing that they'll become downloadable, but I'm old school and like physical copies.

Yeah, it's the first time in a long time that Nintendo haven't done backwards compatibility, but I think the main reason is to save on cost. I'm not fully sure if we'll be able to download Wii U games though, unless you can connect the GamePad to the console when it's docked maybe? Could be a possibility in a future patch, but I'm doubting it for now.

It seems like they're going to favour the ports / updated versions of the best Wii U games for the most-part. Splatoon, Mario Kart 8, Mario Maker, Pokkén Tournament, and Smash Bros. are all rumoured to have an 'ultimate edition' of sorts, which will run at 1080p 60fps and have about 50% new content on top of what they already had on Wii U. GamePad functionality obviously removed in favour of more generic controls I'd imagine; though it's a bit of an conundrum for Mario Maker!

This adds more question to buying a Wii U though, as if those five games were on your list, is it worth getting them now or just getting the Switch version when it's available? Still, there's also Pikmin 3 if you like that series, Super Mario 3D World, Paper Mario Colour Splash, New Super Mario Bros. U, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Yoshi's Woolly World, Bayonetta 2, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, The Wonderful 101, Xenoblade Chronicles X and more to keep you busy. Can even find some good games for under £20.

There are quite a few games you've listed in that final paragraph that I would definitely want mate. I'm hoping that DK Tropical Freeze, Yoshis woolly world and new super Mario would be easy enough to port across as they are not the most graphically complex games to render.

Mario Maker will be interesting one, but I'd bet money on the tablet having a touch screen.

I really hope that Nintendo re-release the Wind waker remaster on the switch. I'm desperate to play through that again.

Talking of Zelda, I've just watched the trailer for breath of the wild again. It looks truly stunning and makes buying a WiiU or Switch a must!

And the reason the Wii U never got a price cut was due to the gamepad. Nintendo would have made a big loss on each console. So it was better for them to slowly cease production then sell it as a loss. They do not have the attach rate that Sony or MS have. I mean even with a price drop they would never have gained lots of sales to justify the loss. Crap hardware and great games sums up the Wii u

Sony and MS can sell a console at a loss, but they'd make that up through game sales and subscription. But even they this gen decided to play it more safe. I'm hoping MS sell the Scorpio at a loss.

How many games would a Switch owner buy a year? Maybe like 3 or 4.

Yoshi's Woolly World is already getting a 3DS version, so I'm not sure they'll do another one for the Switch. Would be cool if they did though.

Dunno if they'll release WW again. Maybe if they did some kind of Zelda All Stars with HD versions of all the 3D games.

I want a new Mario All Stars, with HD remakes of Super Mario 64, Sunshine, Galaxy 1 and 2

This is the same problem that Nintendo are going to find themselves in again. I really wanted to see them release a true power house of a console that specs wise would have put Sony and Microsoft to shame.

But what we've got is a hybrid console that is really only going to appeal to us fan boys. Casual gamers are always going to go for power over power ups (sorry, had to get a Mario joke in here somewhere).

I'm still gonna buy it and fecking love it though

I had a Zelda collection on the GameCube which was awesome .

I really hope they do release windwaker on the switch :(.

A Mario all Stars HD collection of the games you mentioned would be a terrible idea for me. Simply because I'd probably drop down dead from an excitement induced heart attack

 Well that wouldn't be the best outcome from that announcement.

Imagine Cool, Cool Mountain from Super Mario 64 looking like this

Holy shit! That would awesome mate!

Why are people getting excited over already released Dark Souls games? We need new shit.

Fallon is such a muppet, the Switch does look legit good as feck though.
